  Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with trw seat belt buckle assemblies. The buckle base of these seat belt assemblies were not properly heat treated and therefore do not pass the load bearing requirement of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 209, "seat belt assemblies."

  On certain vehicles, the retaining bolts for the steering rack mounting brackets may not have been torqued to the proper specification. This could eventually cause the steering rack to become loose to the point where difficulty in steering the vehicle may be experienced. Correction: dealers will check steering rack mounting bolt torque and if the torque is insufficient, new bolts will be installed.

• Failing headlights investigation # PE04020

  Nissan and ford found that the original equipment headlight stainless steel bulb terminals may over time cause elevated contact resistance and overheat the electrical connector housing.This can result in a headlight flickering, bulb outage and heat deformation to the headlight connector.In april 1999, the supplier of the headlight for nissan and ford changed to a bulb using the stainless steel terminals that did not meet original specifications.On july 17, 2000, the supplier began using a bulb meeting the vehicle manufacturers specifications.This problem can affect independently either headlight but does not cause simultaneous failure of both headlights. The problem also does not affect front parking lamps.As a result, the complaints typical report single failure of one headlight.There are no crashes or loss of vehicle control reported.A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.

I start driving very slow out of parking space when the car accelerate by itself, reaching high speed within seconds, the brakes did not work at all,foot pedal or emergency brake. It seems that the accelerator pedal was stuck. My foot was not in the accelerator but car continue increasing speed. I have no choice to collide against another parked car and hitting a wall where finally the car stop. Even when the car got to stop against the wall, the engine continue running accelerated until i finally shut off the engine.

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 nissan quest. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the steering wheel started to vibrate. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken to a tire center where the tires were rotated and an alignment was performed. However, the remedy failed to repair the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 nissan quest. While driving 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the entire front end of the vehicle and the steering wheel shook uncontrollably. The contact also stated that the steering wheel seized and veered to the right. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis and the mechanic stated that the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the brakes and rotors were replaced on multiple occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

My car had no previous problems as could be seen. I bought it off the lot at 72,000 miles. I stopped in the left hand lane and the car just stalled. I saw black smoke and thought i was overheating but there when i looked it was not. I was at a very busy intersection with my 10 year old daughter in the car. I decided even though it wasn't overheating to take a look at the engine. When i got out under the hood was all orange from fire. It then proceeded to blow up the whole inside and it took about 10-15 mins. For the fire dept. To put the roaring fire out. I thank god we were not inside. I lost the whole entire car. *tr

An f-350 ran a stoplight at 50 mph and impacted the front driver side of van at the tire. The van turned upon impact and received the balance of the impact head on with concentration to the left quadrant. Further spinning, the van then impacted the side of the offending vehicle. Complaint: the air bags did not deploy. She was wearing her seat belt. She sustained injuries to cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions of back. She was treated for 2.5 months and then released. Her head hit the driver side roof, thankfully, just above the window resulting only in bruising. Her muscles were sore from head to toe for about a month. It is quite possible that these injuries would have been minimized by airbag deployment. High impact crash to the bumper and no protection of airbags seems to be a common complaint found online. Positive feedback: the entire front end, engine, battery, etc. Compacted into a pancake, but the passenger compartment had only a small buckle on the floor board at the pedals. The engine was crushed. This was a definite positive. (unrelated to accident complaint above: the exterior handles of the sliding doors were replaced twice. Prior to the latter repair, when the passenger side exterior sliding door handle broke, my daughter's hand was cut and bruised!) *tr

I had nissan quest 2000, minivan, for five years. It has only 135k miles. We took good care of it and keep it well maintained. In 01/03/2012 i was picking up my kids from school, in the school parking lot i smelled something weird i thought it from outside, thin one lady waved to me that there is something wrong in my car. The smoke was start coming out of the front trunk of the car. I looked at the temperature reader, it was normal, no overheating. I turned off the car and left with my 4 kids. I thought it will stop smoking, but the smoke continue to increase, and we start see some fire. The school called the fire department, they were there in 3 min. They were able to control the fire but after it made a complete damage. The officer in the fire department took too many pictures, and he said they can't tell the cause of fire. I just don't understand how and why this happens, this kind of car supposed to serve for much longer than that, it has only 135k mile on it. Many people told me that could be due to malfunction or defect in manufacture. I field this complains and wish there will be investigation in this incident so nobody could have the same experience or worst. Thanks god i am safe with my children but i lost my van. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 nissan quest. The contact was driving at night approximately 45 mph with the headlights on. Suddenly, the headlights became inoperative. The contact maneuvered to the side of the road and then resumed without the headlights. The contact's visibility was extremely limited. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they replaced both headlight bulbs. The failure occurred again after the repair. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage and vin were unavailable.

Back on july as i was on the hwy, set my cruise control, for the first time since i've owned my nissan, at 55mph, the speedometer stopped working, my right headlight went out. Now ever since then, it has gotten worse, i have replaced the right headlight 3 times . I've noticed that when i grab the handle of the turn signal it crackles, and causes the headlights to flicker, and the odometer doesn't work when the speed control is on zero while driving. *tr

As i was driving on city street, my car started accelerating on its own. When i shifted into neutral, the rpm shot up to 4-5000. The breaks were too hard and failed to stop the car until it was in neutral. The mechanic found the origin of the problem in a faulty cruise control. Eventually the nissan dealership disconnected the cruise control. This happened last week and so far i have not experienced any other problem. Dealership believes that this was a failure of an electronic component as a normal wear and tear. I disagree, since the problem also caused the motor mounts to crack and i had to repair those. *tr
