• Recall 11857 [USA]: Leakage of hot coolant from the heat exchanger can cause injury to the feet of the driver or steam up the interior of the vehicle temporarily impairing the driver's vision.
  Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with vr6 engines. A coolant system component such as the thermo switch, radiator fan, or water pump, can malfunction causing the coolant temperature and coolant system pressure to increase significantly. Over time, excessive pressure can cause leakage of coolant fromthe system, including leakage from the heat exchanger.
  dealers will install in the coolant inlet hose to the heater core, a pressure reducer with a 5mm diameter secured by a spring tensioned hose clamp. Also a new relay that will change the operation of the secondary electrical coolant pump will be installed. Dealers will also perform a functional check of the cooling system to make sure that all cooling system components operate properly.

• Recall 17313 [USA]: A worn and noisy fan motor shaft can seize renderingthe fan motor inoperative, eventually causing the engine to overheat and stall. a stalled vehicle in traffic can increase the potential for a vehicle accident.
  Improper material was used in manufacturing the radiator fan motor shaft causing the shaft to wear and become noisy.
  dealers will replace the complete cooling fan assembly on vehicle having the potential shaft material problem. Dealers will install a new fan blade including a new lock nut on vehicle with loose fan blade lock nuts.

  On certain vehicles, excessive temperature and cooling system pressure could result in coolant leakage in the system including leakage from the heat exchanger. This is an expansion of recall 98-231. Correction: dealer will conduct a functional check of the cooling system and install a pressure throttle which will result in reduced coolant pressure in the heat exchanger.

• Recall 1995221 [Canada]: Engine
  Note: includes passat, golf and jetta turbo diesel. On 1993-94 models, the radiator fan motor shaft could seize and render the fan motor inoperative. 1994-95 models could experience a condition whereby the lock nut securing the radiator fan blade hub to the motor could lose its required torque. A loose lock nut could cause the fan hub to loosen from the shaft and cause the belt pulley to run "off-center". This in turn could cause the fan belt to disconnect or break. Either of the above conditions could result in engine overheating and stalling. A vehicle stalling in traffic could cause an accident. Correction: vehicles with either have the complete cooling fan assembly replaced or a new fan blade with a new lock nut installed.

Consumer states that heater core "exploded" while driving and steam clouded all interior windows resulting in no visibility. The heater core explosion also caused coolant to leak from under dashboard into vehicle's interior. Ts

Consumer had work done from recall 98v295000/ coolant system. From prior work done the auxiliary electric coolant pump broke. Owner purchased a new, redesigned pump and installed it himself. *ak *ml

In october 1999 vehicle had recall remedy done. But within 2,000, engine coolant pump, which was replaced during recall repairs, was not desiged for this problem. It caused pressure in the pump, causing the seals to explode and water to leak onto engine compartment, resulted tin vehicle stalling which may have resulted in a crash. Common problem. Manufacturer stated it was not part of the recall, and the consumer was responsible for fixing the recall. The heater core recall did not replace the heater core. A pressure reducing valve and a relay to run the cooling fans and auxillary water pump longer. *ak

Attempted to step on brakes and the brakes went too far down to the floor, on the second attempt to apply the brakes they locked up. Explain in more details. *ak
