Safety Recall 23PBJ: 536, 537, 548, and 567 Delayed Trailer Brake Release Number Edit Clone 23PBJ / 23V661 / 2023-524 Supplier Peterbilt Description 536, 537, 548, and 567 Delayed Trailer Brake Release Date 12/22/2023 What’s New Safety Recall Certain 536, 537, 548, and 567 chassis built with 2.1m Medium Duty End of Frame Trailer Connections and Tractor Protection Valves may not meet the standard trailer brake release timing requirements by 0.5 seconds. A delay in the trailer brake release may create momentary instability to the trailer and increase the risk of a crash. Introduction 536, 537, 548, and 567 chassis built with 2.1m Medium Duty End of Frame Trailer Connections and Tractor Protection Valves may not meet trailer brake release timing requirement of FMVSS 121. Trailer brake release timing may exceed the standard by 0.5 seconds. A delay in the trailer brake release may create momentary instability to the trailer and increase the risk of a crash. Truck and trailer brake application timing is not affected, nor is brake performance affected. Situation 141 chassis (139 US and 2 Canada) model year 2020-2024 536, 537, 548, and 567 chassis built from 7/31/2019 through 9/8/2023 with 2.1m Medium Duty End of Frame Trailer Connections and Tractor Protection Valves. Resolution Safety Recall: Service all chassis affected that enter your dealership, even if the customer has no issue with the chassis. 1. Review the attached chassis list for your dealer code and schedule your customer(s) for service if their chassis is on the list. 2. In Service Management, select Campaign 23PBJ to add it to the case. If the unit is released back into service without performing the repair, make sure to also release the Campaign in Service Management. 3. If you are not using Service Management to start repair orders, review SIR for “Complete” next to the 23PBJ Campaign code prior to performing this repair. 4. Follow the Repair Procedures linked in the “Procedure” section of this bulletin. Federal Law It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease new vehicles covered by this recall until the defect or noncompliance has been corrected. Warranty There is no time or mileage limit for this recall. Peterbilt will pay for parts at dealer net plus applicable mark-up and labor: Determine the chassis configuration by finding the chassis number of the vehicle you are repairing in the Chassis List attached in “Links” section. 1.2 hours to complete repairs per Configuration 1. Use Recommended Repair 23PBJA. 2 hours to complete repairs per Configuration 2. Use Recommended Repair 23PBJB. For repair of progressive damage directly related to this Safety Recall, file a separate long form claim. A Recommended Repair for standard labor must be filed first. Peterbilt a constaté qu’une défectuosité reliée à la sécurité des véhicules automobiles est présente dans certains véhicules de modèles 536, 537, 548 et 567 des années 2020 à 2024, fabriqués entre le 31/07/2019 et le 08/09/2023, équipés de branchements de classe moyenne de 2.1m à la traverse de la remorque, de soupapes de protection de la remorque et de flexibles de liaison. Les véhicules concernés ne se conforment pas aux normes de sécurité des véhicules automobiles canadiens (CMVSS) no. 121, "Systèmes de freins pneumatiques". Le chronométrage de l’application des freins de la remorque peut être retardé, ce qui pourrait créer une instabilité de la remorque et augmenter le risque d’accident. Le chronométrage de l’application des freins du camion et de la remorque n’est pas affecté, pas plus que ne l’est la performance de freinage du camion. Quel est le problème ? Le chronométrage de l’application des freins de la remorque peut être retardé. Que fera votre concessionnaire ? Les concessionnaires remplaceront les raccords de la soupape de protection du tracteur, de la soupape de modulation de la remorque, de la soupape de frein au pied ainsi que la durite qui relie celles-ci. Peterbilt has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2020-2024 536, 537, 548 and 567 vehicles built from 07/31/2019 through 09/08/2023 that are equipped with 2.1m medium duty end of frame trailer connections, tractor protection valves and connecting hoses. Affected vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 121, “Air Brake Systems”. The timing of the trailer brake release may be delayed which can create instability to the trailer and increase the risk of a crash. Truck and Trailer brake application timing is not affected, nor is truck brake performance affected. What is the problem? The timing of the trailer brake release may be delayed. What will your dealer do? Dealers will replace the fittings on the tractor protection valve, trailer modulator valve, foot valve and the hose between them. What should you do? Contact your dealer immediately to schedule an appointment. Peterbilt Motors Company has initiated this recall to remedy the issue with no charge to you.
