Assessment of Cracks on Elastomer Bearings on the Front and Rear Axles (20/24)

Concerns:
Elastomer bearings on front and rear axles
Cause:
The workshops complain about cracks on one or more elastomer bearings of the axle control
components in the course of service and/or other repair work.
Reports carried out on allegedly defective elastomer bearings have shown that they were qualitatively OK
with a crack length of up to 10 mm/ 0.39 in despite visible cracks.
Action:
If there is no complaint on the part of the customer with regard to noises (rattling, clattering, creaking)
from the area of the front or rear axle and the bearing bushings do not show any play, a replacement of
the corresponding elastomer bearing with a crack length of up to 10 mm is not required.
