2014 NISSAN ROGUE with 45000.0 miles

Passenger seat airbag sensor does not detect a passenger when seated with the seat belt fastened. Red blinking airbag light and yellow airbag light are illuminated on the dashboard. Took the car to the dealer and they retrieved the computer code B1018 dtc occupancy sensor malfunction. Dealer stated they would charge their hourly rate to investigate further. Nissan corporate said that i will need to pay for the investigative hourly rate because the 2014 Nissan Rogue select s awd is not included in the 2016 Nissan passenger occupancy sensor recall.

2012 NISSAN LEAF with 89000.0 miles

While starting the vehicle the airbag warning light illuminates (continuously flashing) and continues to flash while driving. On 11/22/2019 the Nissan dealer reported that the seat occupant classification module has failed and is reporting a trouble code B1018. The repair involves replacing the passenger seat cushion assembly at a cost of $3938. The cost to repair is a significant portion of the value of the vehicle. I understand that this is know issue with later my Nissan Leaf and is the subject of a recall.

Air bag warning light on 2012 G37 convertible with only 46,000 mi. Infinity service found code B1018 occupant sensor failure passenger seat. Quoted cost of repair at $7200 to replace seat base. This is obviously a design defect when cannot replace a sensor without replacing the whole base. This is obviously a sensor defect when you see the numbers that have reported this failure (imagine the number that did not report) this should be a safety recall and. Covered by infinity. $7200 to repair a failed sensor is unreasonable.

2012 NISSAN MURANO with 116000 miles

Passenger airbag light is on and will not reset. Vehicle has 116,000 miles, code B1018 code which calls for passenger seat sensor and module assembly. This part is part of the seat itself which Nissan charges $4000 for. This is a safety issue because no one is going to pay $4000 plus cost to install just to have a passenger airbag. This could result in injury or death that might otherwise be avoided if the cost to repair was reasonable. Nissan had a flawed design where the inexpensive parts were not separate from the very expensive seat. I have contacted Nissan and they have no interest in helping out.

2012 NISSAN ALTIMA with 78337.0 miles

I noticed my passenger airbag "off" indicator was illuminated and my dashboard warning light was blinking. No one was in the passenger seat at the time. I took my car in for service at the dealership and they found an error code B1018 ocs. This problem did not have an active recall. The dealership replaced the passenger side seat cushion assembly and tested the airbag system. I contacted Nissan customer care and received a case number. The agent called the dealership to get additional information about the error. The dealership felt that Nissan may cover the costs of the defect. The customer care specialist said there was nothing they could do since my car was out of warranty and was not part of a recall.

2012 NISSAN MURANO with 98000 miles

We recently bought an out of warranty, as is 2012 Nissan Murano and the dash airbag light and passenger airbag light are both on. They never go off after the initial 7 second wait time. Vehicle in motion or standing still doesn't matter. I have scanned for codes and B1018-00 keeps coming back after attempting to erase. Normal sized people sit in these two seats and use their seat belts religiously so "misaligned seating" is not the case. I have researched this and a few others have had the exact problem. This is a safety item that should be taken care of by Nissan regardless of mileage and such but i'm seeing that people are getting a "oh well" kind of response from Nissan. If there's a class action suit to get in, i will. I have not contacted Nissan about this as of yet but will probably have to at least spend big dollars to get it scanned and diagnosed at a dealership.

    2012 INFINITI G37 with 47800.0 miles

The airbag light is blinking. I took the car to Infiniti and i'm told that the there is a failure code B1018 stored due to internal failure of occupant airbag detection sensor. They are charging $6,653 to replace this part. $348 is labor and the remainder is the part cost. The car has 47,800 miles and is out of warranty by 3 months. Infiniti usa told me that the air bag would not deploy on the passenger side and that i should replace it immediately as it is a safety hazard for passengers which are mainly my children. Due to the fact that this part is priced so far out of reach for most normal consumers, i asked Infiniti usa for some consideration as this is my only car. They declined any type of assistance in replacing the part. In other words, its dangerous enough for me to pay almost $7000 to replace it but not dangerous enough for them to help fix it. I was told at the dealership that they are seeing this sensor issue more and more on cars 3-4 years old and that they are not making them like this anymore.

2012 NISSAN ROGUE with 63500.0 miles

Code: B1018 passenger side occupant classification error. Seat had to be replaced. My family's safety was at stake. Dealer quoted $2962.06 and they notified me the seat is on back-order. That amount is ridiculous and prohibitive for my family. We had my mechanic work on it the 1st time and he recalibrated the seat. He came back a second time but did not charge since it was the same code and it happened a day later. We opted to fix the issue by replacing the seat with a part from a salvage yard as it was less money. I am concerned about the safety of my family! The very first time i noticed the restraint system light was during a 5 hour drive (7/8/18) but did not know what it was until i looked it up after the trip. I was appalled that Nissan would not fix something that was clearly manufacturing defect and that i put my family at risk. I also believe this issue is why the seats are on backorder. I am sure Nissan is aware. Please see pictures.

2011 NISSAN LEAF with 52000.0 miles

While driving the vehicle straight at around 35 mph, the airbag light came on. Subsequent diagnosis showed a B1018 code thrown by the Leaf, which indicates that the passenger occupancy sensor has failed. The code was reset and stayed off, but again about 5 days later, the same issue occurred. This time, the code would not reset. I was quoted $2700 in parts and $300 labor by the dealership to repair the problem, which was uneconomical and more than half the value of the car. The car only has 53,000 miles and is only 7 years old. I contacted Nissan customer affairs and they would not help with the price of the repair at all. I was informed by the dealership that not repairing the sensor would result in all airbags being disabled, since the light was illuminated. It seems like a big safety issue that if the passenger occupancy sensor fails, all airbags are disabled. We will have to continue driving the car and cannot afford a $3000 repair to a $5500 car. This same part is recalled on 2013-2015 Leafs as well as millions of other Nissan cars. If this is a common failure, maybe it should be recalled on the 2011-2012 Leaf as well.

    2010 INFINITI G37 with 35000 miles

Front passenger seat occupancy classification sensor (ocs) fault: B1018-00. This means that passenger airbag is disabled along with warning lights on the dash and console. Car has only 35k and garage kept and dealer maintained. This is a known issue on many Infiniti / nissan models that have an official recall, but not on the 2010 G37 for some reason even though it uses the same sensor as other models which do have a recall. Informed by the dealer that they see a lot of this issue and the only way to restore passenger safety is to replace the seat which upwards of $6900. Even if i wanted to replace the seat, i was also informed that there are no replacement seats or internal parts available so i'm on my own! Due to this common design flaw in Infiniti / nissan cars that share this same exact issue, this model should be covered by the same recall. The other models have. My vehicle uses the same exact parts as the recalled ones, has the same issues, and yet because of smaller number of complaints because there are just less of them on the road, they are excluded from the same recall. This safety issue should be recalled immediately before someone gets killed.

2010 Nissan Murano, (purch 11/30/2009) i have a passenger air bag safety concern! (case # 37896824) the red air bag warning light is flashing! (while driving at all speeds and while idling) & the front passenger seat air bag warning light (yellow), remains on - indicates front passenger air bag is off! Took Murano to Nissan service center, tech did diagnostic test - got a code B1018 ocs is malfunctioning. Tech cleared code, to turn off the red flashing airbag light & said if red light starts flashing again, come back to service dept. 1st step to fix would be replace front pssngr seat acu assembly. (verbally was told they may have to replace the front passenger seat cushion). Red light flashing again the next day, drove it for 2 weeks to see if that would recalibrate red flashing light, was still flashing after 2 wks, returned to Nissan service dept on 10/29/19. Said need to replace the front passenger cushion, (the ocs for air bag is in cushion) & possibly an acu! I see, Murano has had several passenger air bag recalls: the 2009 Murano: recall # 08v521000 - safety issue - the ocs control unit located in font passenger seat cushion, could cause interruption of signal between ocs & acu - suppressed air bag could fail to provide adequate protection in a crash. Recall # 08v066000 - safety issue - due to incorrect software programming- the acu may cause passenger air bag to not operate as designed if battery becomes significantly discharged - resulting in passenger air bag not to operate as designed. 2013 - 2015 Murano recall - safety issue - front pssngr ocs component may incorrectly classify adult as a child or that seat is empty despite occupied - front pssngr air bag may be turned off & not deploy in a crash! * i see a lot of similarities in the past recall descriptions with what is occurring to my 2010 Nissan Murano passenger seat. Thank you!

    2010 NISSAN 370Z with 24073 miles

The srs light came on on the dash. Car is 10 years old, but only has 24073 miles on it. Nissan dealer identified error code B1018. Occupant sensor in the front passenger seat failed. Nissan quoted $4767 to replace the passenger seat base assembly. Stated sensor was integrated into the seat and could not be replaced without replacing the entire seat cushion. It is interesting to note that Nissan had a "voluntary recall campaign" for the exact same issue on the 2007-2008 Nissan 350z. Nissan technical service bulletin 08-095d is germane. The problem is described as a failed occupant classification system varistor in the front passenger seat cushion. This is a sensor that lets the car know whether or not an airbag should fire, depending on whether or not there is a passenger in that seat. Did Nissan ever correct this safety issue? I contacted Nissan consumer affairs, (case 42872979), but they were no assistance (only stating that the vehicle was out of warranty). This is a safety item that, in my opinion, Nissan should warranty for the life of the vehicle, or at a minimum acknowledge that they have had a problem with the same component on the prior model (350z). The srs light comes on on the dash, and blinks intermittently. The passenger airbag light near the passenger seat stays permanently lit. In virginia (where i live), you cannot pass state safety inspection with the blinking srs light on your dashboard display. Has to be fixed. I repaired the issue myself by acquiring a second hand (used) seat. However, as i previously stated, Nissan should pay for this problem that they previously acknowledged in the tech service bulletin (faulty occupant sensor), but apparently have not fixed.

2009 NISSAN MURANO with 58700.0 miles

Dear sir or madam, in 2009 i bought new Nissan Murano sl 2009 from mossy Nissan dealership in houston, texas. To finance my purchase, i also bought extended car warranty for 6 years total (to cover another 3 years beyond 3 years of factory warranty). This extended warranty (Nissan security+ plus gold preferred package with >2,000 parts being protected) was advertised as a best available option on the market. All these years since my purchase i took very good care of my car, records are available at mossy Nissan. On 06nov2014 mossy Nissan service center diagnosed internal device failure responsible for airbags deploy and informed me that, to their surprise, this module is not covered by my current warranty. This part is listed as a cushion & adjuster module, part # 873a2-1av2a. Reading from the Nissan tool scanner: ******* c B1018 ocs sensor unit failure******** estimated costs for replacement were approximated at 3,500$ out of pocket. I have contacted north america Nissan (1-800-Nissan1) and case # [xxx] was filed for investigations. North america Nissan has contacted me back on 17nov2014 and informed me that they cannot offer any help or assistance regarding replacement. Na Nissan also refused to finance amount of 3,500$ over 6-12 months which i agreed to pay in monthly payments. Nissan security+ plus gold preferred package has >2,000 parts being protected including those for fun and entertainment (like radio, cd player, even antenna etc.) but not for the module responsible for life-saving airbags deployment. I have found this unacceptable. The false advertisement of the package is deceptive stating ?Ultimate in peace of mind protection??Not for essential safety parts though? Can you help? Can you advise on next reasonable steps? Thank you in advance, [xxx] [xxx]@yahoo.Com cell: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.S.C. 552(b)(6).'

2009 NISSAN MAXIMA with 11000.0 miles

I purchased the 2009 Nissan Maxima from the dealer, brand new, in november, 2008. Several months later, i noticed that as i sat in the passenger seat, the airbag light would come on indicating that the airbag would not deploy in an accident. I am 5'4" and 140 pounds and not a child or even a smaller adult. Throughout the past 5 years, the same problem would happen when someone sat in the passenger seat. The light will come on unexpectedly while i sat there and my husband drove. I took the car to the dealer on 2 occasions (first time in 2009 and again in 2010) and explained to them what was happening and that i felt unsafe sitting in that seat should we have an accident. They said that they could not replicate the problem and unless the computer spits out an error code, there was nothing they could do (even though it was under warranty). Now the car is over 5 years old and has 85,000 miles on it. My powertrain warranty is expired (as it ended at 60,000 miles). It is now that the passenger air bag light stays on constantly, even when nobody is sitting in the seat. Also, the flashing air bag light on my dashboard stays on. I took it to the dealer again and they said it's the sensor in the passenger seat that has failed. It gave an error cod B1018. Since it is no longer under warranty, it will cost me $1,900 out of pocket. I contacted Nissan's consumer affairs department and asked them to cover it?They denied the claim and will not cover the repair. I want to alert the nhtsa that this is a problem not only on newer Nissans, but also on the older Nissans, including the 2009 Maxima. My hope is that this year and model will be considered for an expanded recall to the current recall. This is a huge safety issue and one that Nissan should agree to take care of for all cars that show this problem.

We were attempting to remove the propeller shaft to the rear wheels as the universal joints had worn out and the propeller shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was up in the air on a hoist. The ignition was in the off position, front & rear bolts to propeller shaft were removed, one of the two bolts for the mid-ship mount was out. Our technician then heard what sounded like a firecracker go off. What we found was that the side air bags had deployed! We then accessed the fault codes in the srs system and found the following. B1211 rollover detection, B1081 & B1086 pretensioner rt ft & lt ft (open),B1145 & B1150 curtain module (open), B1177 ft rt seat belt pretensioner, & B1018 occupant sensor (unit fail). When we checked with the Nissan dealer in kalamazoo, they sent us a tsb, dated 01/27/2014 # ntb08-055c which addresses problems Nissan is having with all vehicles!! We have found numerous instances of this happening to owners of Nissan's. We were using no power tools on the vehicle when this happened. I feel that these bags are deploying on people and causing accidents not the other way around. These vehicles need to be recalled. We have saved the parts that were replaced to get the vehicle repaired, for your inspection. I own a 2009 Nissan Maxima. In the year 2016 the airbag light for the passenger seat began to continuously blink and the indicator light said 'airbag off' whether the seat was occupied or not. Thinking the light needed to be reset as my airbags have never deployed i tried this routes. It ultimately proved not to be the problem and the light continues to blink. The car was diagnosed by Nissan as am ocs sensor fail B1018 and the cost for the repair would be $2100. The weight sensor in the passenger seat failed. Without the repair the airbag system will not function for the entire car. Upon speaking to Nissan consumer affairs i learned the the part has been discontinued but offered no explanation as to why. Even with the failed part being a major safety concern Nissan refuses to offer any kind of assistance to fix the issue. This part is not exposed to elements as it is in the actual seat cushion. The product just failed and Nissan needs to be held accountable for faulty manufactured parts. This is a safety concern that could cause someone their life.

I first started noticing the passenger airbag light flashing off and on when i would place a heavy item in the seat. I was in my driveway with the car running. Then the same thing happened with a passenger in the seat. Then it eventually was saying that the passenger airbag was turned off wither there was a passenger or not. I took to a Nissan dealership and they told me it was an occupant sensor fail B1018 and i would have to get it fixed before my next state inspection or it wouldn't pass. They want $2879.49 just for the part. The trade in value is not worth that much according to kbb. My understanding is that other Nissan owners are having the same problem. This is clearly a fail that Nissan should take responsibility for.

No way to repair other than to replace the entire sensor and passenger seat cushion, which is quoted at $5000-$6000 from the manufacturer for parts. There is no reason that a defective passenger-side seat sensor should disable all the airbags in the vehicle. This strongly deserves a recall, as it seems to have suddenly been happening to large numbers of 2009 G37s this year. This defect puts the driver at significant risk even though his/her own airbag and all other airbag sensors should still function normally.

Let me explain, first the motors that move the steering column up/down (warranty covered) and in/out (a $600 estimate) both have gone out. Secondly, the left front tire pressure sensor ($186) was found to be faulty on february 20, 2015 with mileage of 47,859. Thirdly, the front left strut ($142) had to be replaced and both front strut mounts have been replaced ($176), which is a recall for some vehicles but not mine. I'm confused by this but let's move on the biggest problem i'm having with Nissan. Today the only recall on my 09 Maxima has been the escl, which was replaced on july 21, 2017 with 73,429 miles of the car. I immediately noticed a different sound when starting the car. I was told there was nothing they could do about the sound, so i drove the car home. Shortly after, the airbag light on the dashboard started blinking and the passenger airbag indicator came on. On february 19, 2018, my car was taken to a local Nissan dealership to get the airbag system fixed with 76,443 miles on the car. The service department ran a diagnostic report ($95) finding code dct B1018 as a problem. They reported their findings to me and gave an estimate of the repairs to be between $2,000 and $4,000, a big difference. I talked with the service department about what had to be done to fix the airbag system, how much time the repairs would take, why such a wide spread in the financial estimate and what may have caused this problem. I learned a lot from this conversation. The biggest surprise was learning that Nissan changed how their airbag system sensors worked from always on to off until a seat was occupied. I would feel more like a valued customer when Nissan pays 100% of a problem that has been caused by 'no fault' of the consumer.

    2008 INFINITI G35 with 108000. miles

Infinity has a voluntary recall, nstsa #08v-521 for the passenger air bag occupant sensor (ocs) on 2008 infinity G35 with error code B1022. My car has error code B1018 with is the same issue and they will not replace the sensor. They want to charge me $7000 to replace the seat bottom. This should be covered under the recall.

2008 NISSAN SENTRA with 120000. miles

Having issues with my passenger seat occupancy sensor. The only correction the dealer issued was to replace the seat with a new or used seat. A new seat would be over $3,000 and a used one well over $700 plus labor to change seat covers. Error code B1018. The vehicle is beyond warranty however, because this is an obvious safety issue regarding faulty hardware, i feel Nissan should graciously address this without charge. There are airbag recall campaigns open for other Nissan models regarding this very issue but it unfortunately does not include my 2008 Nissan Sentra. The recall obviously needs to be expanded! At this point i may be forced to acquire a used seat at a local junk yard, but it would be impossible to verify the sensor is working in the used seat prior to installation. Again, this is an obvious safety issue and should be addressed promptly. Thank you for your time!

    2008 INFINITI M35 with 95000.0 miles

The passenger seat occupancy sensor (ocs) mat is not working properly (code B1018) and is causing the passenger side air bags to be turned off. Infiniti has quoted me $3,250 to correct the problem which requires the replacement of the entire front passenger lower seat assembly (1\2 of a seat for $3,250 !!!). After repeated attempts to Infiniti usa, and the president of Infiniti worldwide - roland krger, infinit has said no to providing me any financial assistance to correct this problem. Along with the non functioning air bag, my well cared for car has rust forming on the header just above the windshield. I am writing to advise on the fault design and\or manufacture of the ocs and of Infiniti's unwillingness to provide a reasonably priced repair. I will never buy another Infiniti or nissan product again, and suggest you do not.

    2008 INFINITI G35

Airbag light on dashboard keeps flashing and passenger occupant light is on even when a passenger is on the passenger seat. Took vehicle to dealer and they reported that they are receiving code 'B1018 - ocs sensor mat malfunctioning.' i know that there is currently a recall for this (nhtsa #08-521) but the dealer states that my vin is not included in this recall, however, my car is has the exact symptoms and codes for that recall. I believe my vehicle should be included in that recall notice.

2008 NISSAN ALTIMA with 76465.0 miles

The "passenger airbag not on" light has been intermittently flashing. It now remains lit (passenger airbag off) when the seat is unoccupied and when a full grown adult sits in the passenger seat. In november of 2012, the airbag light began to flash on the dashboard panel. I took my car into a Nissan dealership for repair after reading about campaign 08v521000. After diagnostics were ran by the technician, it was found that the srs system was off, the occupant sensory unit failed (dtc code B1018), and a new seat cushion assembly is needed to repair the malfunction. Nissan was contacted about the malfunction and denied covering the repair under the recall since my vin didn't fall under the recall, even though the conditions for repair fit the description. The vehicle was not repaired. I want Nissan to repair this malfunction so that i, and my passengers, can feel safe in my car.
    ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE,

    2008 INFINITI G35 with 100500. miles

When passenger sits in front seat, airbag deactivates. Infiniti diagnosed code as B1018 and wants $7k to replace seat cushion assembly. Infiniti refuses to acknowledge safety defect as part of their recall program by saying my vin is not affected. The passenger side airbag deactivates after sitting in front seat for about a minute.

2008 NISSAN ROGUE with 98442.0 miles

Twice during april 2014 my 2008 Rogue was at the dealer to diagnose why passenger airbag light would not shut off. Was told by dealer that the code was in the past tense and they could not do any diagnostic testing since it was not an active code (B1018). Without doing any testing, i was told that to fix the problem they would need to replace the passenger front seat cushion ($2,500). Was told that Nissan recall 2008-10-07 did not apply to my vehicle. Filed a complaint with Nissan usa consumer affairs on 4/22/14 and requested that my vehicle be included in the recall since Nissan is aware of problems with airbags in the 2008 Nissan Rogues. Nissan refused my request and stated that airbags are secondary safety equipment and they would not fix the defect since seat belts are considered the primary safety feature. At this point i don't know if my airbag system is even operational since the light remains illuminated. Nissan has issued recalls on the Rogue and other models for defective airbags so i think the problem is impacting more vehicles than they realize and i don't feel i should be paying out of pocket to repair. What more can i do to get Nissan to step up and fix the problem?
