Transmission appears to have shifted into reverse while traveling forward at 45-50mph. Resulting in major engine/transmission failure. Which could have been catastrophic if the rear wheel had locked up instead of freewheeling. Had that happened when a vehicle was behind me it could have been fatal. I was in the process of slowing down as i came into a town and had already downshifted from fifth to fourth. When attempting to downshift from fourth to third a loud bang happened the engine shut off and luckily the machine coasted off the road. Two days before this happened the bike would not go into reverse. I pulled the codes and it had set a U0155 code. I contacted the midland tx canam dealership and talked to someone there who told me to disconnect the battery for fifteen minutes and then reconnect and see what it would do. I did that and it set a P2806 code for gear position sensor. I contacted the midland dealer again and told him that i had no reverse but all five forward gears were working and again stated that i was about 400 miles from home and asked what should i do. His comment was try to ride it home which i did.
