I bought this motorcycle new. It has 1567 miles on it. Never driven hard or raced. The issue is that the motorcycle will not go and/or stay in neutral gear. If i gently tap the shift lever down in say's gear 1 on the dash when actually it is in neutral. If i increase pressure on the shift lever it will fully engage in to 1st gear. This situation is not safe. I can not get it to stay in the green light neutral position. Update: i took it to the dealer. Faulty gear position switch sensor. It cost me $367.00 to get the unsafe situation corrected. The dealer said that it is a common problem. I think that ducati should have a recall on these unsafe bikes or at the very least fix it w/o cost to the customer. The motorcycle cost me $32000. A motorcycle that will not go into neutral without indication on the dash is unsafe. I could be at a stop light and not know what gear i'm in causing an unsafe situation for me and the cars around me. The bike was stationary when i first noticed the problem. I took it for a 15 mile inner city trip to see if it would correct itself. It did not.

The motorcycle has a gear indicator (to tell what gear you are in) that displays on the dashboard. Two different gear indication problems: 1) while traveling in 6th gear, the indicator will flash between 5th and 6th gear 2) while in neutral gear, the indicator will flash between 1st and neutral. This only occurs when the bike is heat soaked in conjunction with air temperatures above 90 degrees. The neutral / 1st gear problem causes the bike's (when running in neutral gear with the side stand down) engine to shut off because the bike has a side stand and gear interlock condition that will not let the engine run with the side stand in the down position in any forward gear with the clutch engaged. The 5th / 6th gear indicator problem is little more than a nuisance most of the time, but can led to rider being unstable if he/she believes the bike is in 5th, tries up upshift but realizes the gear peddle will not engage 6th because the bike is already in 6th. The online ducati forums have been stating that the gear indicator problem is a common problem with the 2012-2014 ducati 1199 bikes. Also, ducati customer service states that this is a common problem. There is no known permanent fix for this condition. Some dealers are "re-teaching" gear section to the bike while some dealers are replacing gear indicator sensors to no avail. My bike is out of warranty, so any attempted fix would be on my dime. Also there are no known recalls to date for this condition.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ducati 1199 panigale motorcycle. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, he engaged the clutch device and accidentally activated the high beam switch due to both functions being too close. In addition, the rear view mirrors failed to provide adequate viewing of the roadway. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle functioned as designed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
