The air tanks have an insufficient volume of air for the brake system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard number 121, "air brake systems."

  Issue: certain trucks were built with a standard rear brake abs modulator valve instead of a quick release valve. This could result in an increased stopping distance. Note: this recall only affects certain trucks equipped with wabco 6s/6m abs brake systems and drum brakes. Safety risk: an incorrect abs modulator valve can cause increased stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.   Issue: on certain trucks, the warning light for the tractor anti-lock brake system (abs) may not turn on if the system loses power. If this happens, the driver will not get warning that the abs is not working properly. Note: this problem would also cause the traction control (tc) and electronic stability control (esc) lights not to turn on. Safety risk: if a driver is not warned that the abs is not working properly, there could be an increased risk of a crash.   On certain trucks built with a cummins x15 or isx15 engine equipped with nylon fuel lines and a banjo bolt on the fuel pump, a blockage in the fuel cooling system may cause a fuel line to burst. This could result in a significant fuel leak onto the roadway, which would create a road hazard for other motorists. Additionally, this condition could also cause an engine stall without warning, without the ability to restart the engine. Both of these conditions may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: cummins-authorized dealers will replace the affected nylon line with a steel line.

  Certain vehicles equipped with eaton ultrashift plus or eaton advantage automatic transmissions with right hand stalk shifters may not comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standards (cmvss) 101 - location and identification of controls and displays and cmvss 102 – transmission control functions. Under certain conditions, the d-r-n (drive-reverse-neutral) display in the instrument cluster may incorrectly illuminate the "n" on the display when the transmission shifter is in the "d" or "r" position, which is contrary to the requirements of the standards.   On certain vehicles, the engine control module (ecm) may develop an internal electrical short circuit that could blow a fuse in the ecm's electrical supply circuit. This could cause the engine to stall without warning and prevent the vehicle from being restarted. • Haldex brake chamber failures investigation # PE21018

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has opened this preliminary evaluation (pe) on haldex gold seal gC3030lcw air brake chambers installed in model year (my) 2015-2020 vehicles based on allegations of air loss resulting in vehicle fires. Odi is aware of eleven (11) vehicle owner questionnaires (voqs) that allege, without discernable warning to the driver, the failure of a haldex brake chamber. Seven (7) of those cases involved thermal events causing extensive fire damage to the vehicle and, in some cases, the cargo too. In at least one of the fires, a fire investigation report identified a wheel end fire as the origin. Analysis of other failed units found haldex brake chamber diaphragms punctured by the power spring.Odi discussed the voqs with the complainants. Through these discussions, odi learned that multiple fleets were having issues with numerous vehicles. While driving down hyway wheel end started smoking, driver stopped and found haldex brake can leaking air causing the brakes to drag and overheat

Driver driving down road in illionois right front drive axle wheel end brakes started smoking when brake not depressed, driver stopped found both tires in tact and fully inflated then tires started on fire while parked and could not be extinguished total loss of truck trailer and load, called in fire team determined haldex brake chamber on right rear failed and cause the loss of air pressure in the braking system brake drums showed extreme heat during the inspection resulting in the fire, joint inspection with haldex reveled known issues with the brake chamber spring , brake chamber was disarmed for inspection and was found the spring had broken and punctured the diaphram causing the loss of air pressure and uncontrollable brake application while driving at hyway speeds, broken parking springs in the haldex gold chamber with no known fix

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 kenworth t680. While driving various speeds uphill, the vehicle lost power when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal had to be depressed to the floorboard in order for the vehicle to accelerate. The failure recurred numerous times. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to many dealers and independent mechanics, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.
