Paccar incorporated (paccar) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 kenworth t440, t800, and w900 trucks manufactured august 31, 2009, to april 20, 2015, and 2008-2015 peterbilt 320, 337, 348, 365, 382, and 384 trucks manufactured july 27, 2007, to april 28, 2015, and equipped with certain cummins westport isl g engines. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces. cummins will notify owners on behalf of paccar, and cummins service centers will administer the repairs which include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module (ecm) with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on june 12, 2015. Recall 2020551 [Canada]: Structure
Issue: on certain trucks, the welds that attach the trailer hitch may crack due to improper welding. As a result, the hitch could detach from the truck while towing a trailer. Note: this recall only affects certain trucks with trailer hitches installed by commercial truck equipment. Safety risk: a trailer that detaches from a truck could create a risk of a crash. Corrective actions: commercial truck equipment will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to inspect the trailer hitch and repair or replace it, as necessary. You should stop using the trailer hitch until the inspection and repair have been completed.

Issue: on certain trucks, the warning light for the tractor anti-lock brake system (abs) may not turn on if the system loses power. If this happens, the driver will not get warning that the abs is not working properly. Note: this problem would also cause the traction control (tc) and electronic stability control (esc) lights not to turn on. Safety risk: if a driver is not warned that the abs is not working properly, there could be an increased risk of a crash. Certain vehicles may fail to conform to the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 121 - air brake systems and cmvss 136 - electronic stability control systems for heavy vehicles. On certain fire trucks, the retaining ring(s) in the relief valve assembly may not have been made using high grade stainless steel, causing it to deteriorate over time due to frequent exposure to water. If the retaining ring fails, the relief valve may break down and prevent the fire pump from building adequate pressure, which would increase the risk of injury during firefighting operations. Correction: dealers or certified technicians will inspect and replace the retaining ring(s) as necessary.

Certain vehicles equipped with neway adz tridem rear suspension may not comply with the brake timing requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 121 - air brake systems. The brake control airline between the two relay valves is plumbed with a 3/8" airline but should be plumbed with a 1/4" line to balance the service brake application timing and meet the requirement of the standard. An oversized airline could cause a delay in brake activation and increase stopping distances, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will update and modify the brake piping of the air brake system.

On certain vehicles equipped with cummins westport isl-g engines, excessive engine crankcase pressure could cause the vent tube assembly elbow to detach from the breather. This could allow engine oil to come in contact with hot surfaces, increasing the risk of fire resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will install clamps at both ends of the elbow of the breather tube assembly and reprogram the electronic control module (ecm) to improve diagnostic capabilities.

On certain vehicles, water could migrate into wiper motor head and could lead to internal corrosion. This internal corrosion could form a conductive salt bridge which could result in a short circuit, causing the wiper system to fail. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, and a short circuit could increase the risk of fire, which could result in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will install a shield over the wiper motor to protect it from water intrusions and prevent corrosion.

On certain vehicles, an undersized wire in the trailer stop lamp circuit of the instrument panel harness is susceptible to thermal cycling which may cause damage to the wiring. This could result in the trailer lamp fuse failing, which could cause stop lamps to become inoperative and increase the risk of a crash. This damaged wiring could also increase the risk of fire. These issues could result in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the undersized wire in the harness.
Recall 2014046 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles equipped with cummins isl g or isx12 g engines, incorrect engine ecu programming could cause the exhaust system temperature to become elevated during cold weather operation. This could also cause flames to be emitted from the exhaust. As a result, nearby combustible material could be ignited, increasing the risk of a fire, injury and/or damage to property.
