• Recall 80994 [USA]: Continued vehicle operation can eventually result in the splines shearing and a loss of drive, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Land rover is recalling 19,168 my 2003-2005 range rover vehicles. The front differential coupling sleeve and the propeller shaft may be misaligned, resulting in spline wear over a period of time. As the wear between the propeller shaft and the differential spline coupling progresses, noise and vibration are expected.

• Recall 82123 [USA]: If the srs warning light is ignored and a vehicle crash of sufficient severity to command deployment of the driver's air bag occurs, the air bag module may not deploy in the intended manner. the condition may result in the deployment of only one stage of the dual stage driver's air bag or the air bag may not deploy at all increasing the risk of serious injuries to the driver.
  Land rover is recalling 37,142 my 2005-2006 lr3 and range rover sport vehicles. Relative motion between the steering wheel hub and/or the steering column cowl with the clockspring, which includes the driver side air bag circuitry, could result in fracturing of the air bag wiring connection. If an air bag wire fractures, the srs warning light will illuminate on the instrument cluster. The srs warning light indicates to the driver that there is a concern with the srs system in the vehicle and that immediate repair is necessary.
  dealers will insert 1mm spacers between the lower left hand side of the column switch mounting point and the column lock to improve the alignment of the column switch. Two foam pads will also be fitted to the top of the steering column switch gear to provide assured clearance between the cowl and the clockspring face. The recall began on july 30, 2008.   It is possible that one or both of the front brake hoses could rupture allowing brake fluid to leak. A warning lamp and message will appear on the dash board when the fluid depletes to a certain level. Braking capability will be retained by the rear brake circuit pedal feel will be degraded and pedal travel extended. Stopping distances will increase.

  On certain vehicles, miss-alignment of the joint between the front differential coupling and the front propeller shaft can cause undue wear to the splines within the coupling. Over time, this could cause the splines to shear, resulting in a loss of drive. Loss of propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will replace the propeller shaft with an updated version.

  Summary:in a letter dated december 2, 2008, ford motor company (ford) notified nhtsa that land rover is conducting a safety recall of model year (my) 2003 through 2005 range rover vehicles built at the solihull (uk) assembly plant from january 3, 2002 through february 22, 2005, to replace the front driveshaft joint (nhtsa recall no. 08v-635, land rover recall no. P041). The front differential coupling sleeve and the propeller shaft may be misaligned resulting in spline wear over time, which may eventually result in the splines shearing.The defect condition can result in a loss of propulsion and subsequent vehicle disablement in the roadway or on the shoulder of the roadway. Furthermore, the defect condition can also cause loss of the transmission lock function when the vehicle is shifted into the park position.The loss of the transmission lock function can cause a vehicle rollaway condition if the emergency brake is not applied and the vehicle is unattended by the driver. In july 2008, land rover initiated a service action (q041) instructing dealers to install a redesigned front propeller shaft, front differential coupling and heat shield kit to address the misalignment and subsequent spline wear.This is the same repair procedure that will be used in safety recall 08v-635.Approximately 48 percent of the subject vehicles (18,000) have had the remedy performed under service action q041 as of december 2, 2008. Odi believes that sudden loss of motive power without warning and failure of the transmission lock function are safety consequences that, particularly in the context of the high failure rate of the subject components, represent an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety as stated in a recall request letter sent to ford and land rover on november 6, 2008.Land rover does not agree, but is changing its customer satisfaction program to a safety recall as odi requested. Land rover noted that it was aware of one alleged accident; however, it was unaware of any injury or vehicle damage associated with the alleged accident.Land rovers recall resolves the safety defect concerns pursued by this investigation. Tl* the contact owns a 2005 land rover range rover. The contact heard an abnormal noise and felt a strong vibration when the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was taken to two different independent mechanics where it was diagnosed that the front differential needed to be replaced. An unknown dealer was contacted to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The manufacturer issued five tsbs for the suspension. The failure mileage was not available.

The steering column will drop while driving. It is a known problem and land rover wants $1,900 or more to replace the steering column. I was travelling on the interstate and the steering wheel suddenly dropped on my knees. When i lifted my leg to apply the brakes, it caused the steering wheel to turn, causing me to swerve into traffic. I immediately called the land rover dealership and they said they have had complaints but it is not on the recall list. This is very dangerous.

As i started up from a stop at a light i felt a clunking in the front end. I started to increase speed and attempted to make a sudden turn to avoid an obstacle in the road. The front end froze up.

My differential is leaking & i think it has cause my transmission to false.. I believe this has happen while in motion on the street in newyork ... I purchased the range rover from land rover of virginia in 2008.

I've had this vehicle for six years now and i have taking it for service three times for the valley pan & hot water pipe to be repaired...This is strange that these parts keep failing...This vehicle was in motion on the streets of new york.

2005 range rover has a leak in the front differential. Although the front differential should last for the life of the vehicle, the mechanic indicated that this would lead to premature mechanical failure of the unit and potential life safety issue if it fails while driving.

The contact was attempting to change a tire with the factory issued jack, the jack failed causing the vehicle to collapse and the rotor fell onto the wheel. While driving down city street at 30 mph, a loud humming sound comes from front of vehicle. Immediately brought truck to mechanic and mechanic then stated after inspection that he has seen this problem on range rovers before and that it should be covered under safety recall. The contact kept the vehicle parked due to it hesitating to start and being sluggish while traveling at any rate of speed. The authorized dealer was notified of the failure several times and the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact had not yet approved the dealer to diagnose the vehicle due to how extensive the repair would be in which various components may need to be maneuvered or adjusted to determine the failure.
