The owners of the vehicles affected by this bulletin will be advised by a letter indicating the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of each vehicle concerned. Writer: ELWB19-07 Page 2 / 8 DESCRIPTION On the independent front suspension (IFS) of the vehicles affected by this bulletin, check and make sure that there is enough clearance between the brake hoses identified in the procedure and their respective support bracket. In some cases, it might be necessary to change the position of the hose in order to obtain the necessary minimum clearance. If signs of rubbing and wear are present, replacement of the damaged hose will be necessary. There are two hoses to inspect, one on each side of the vehicle. PROCEDURE DANGER Park vehicle safely, apply parking brake, stop the engine. Prior to working on the vehicle, set the ignition switch to the OFF position and trip the main circuit breakers equipped with a trip button. On the Commuter type vehicles, set the battery master switch (master cut-out) to the OFF position. FIGURE 1 : INSPECT THE TWO (2) HOSES IDENTIFIED ON THE IMAGE Writer: EL WB19-07 Page 3 / 8 PART 1 – CHECKING THE CLEARANCE 1. Check the clearance between the brake hose and the edge of the support as shown on the image. The MINIMUM clearance is 1/2 inch (12 mm) Inspect two (2) hoses, one on each side of the coach FIGURE 2 : DRIVER SIDE (L.H.) FIGURE 3 FIGURE 4 : CURB SIDE (R.H) 2. If the clearance is 1/2 inch (12 mm) or greater, no adjustment is necessary. Writer: EL WB19-07 Page 4 / 8 3. If the clearance is less than 1/2 inch (12 mm), it is necessary to increase the clearance as explained in Part 2 to avoid rubbing of the hose. a) If the hose shows signs of rubbing or wear, change the hose. If the inspection shows that there is rubbing of the black and greasy Tectyl coating only, then the hose does not require replacement. Writer: EL WB19-07 Page 5 / 8 PART 2 – TO INCREASE THE CLEARANCE 4. Loosen two (2) screws on the hose clamp (item 1). 5. Loosen the fitting (item 2). 6. Turn the hose near the fitting slightly in order to increase the clearance. 7. Tighten the fitting while preventing the hose to rotate in order not to lose the clearance adjustment. 8. Release the torsion (twist) in the hose. To do so, turn the hose in the clamps and then tighten the clamp screws (item 1, figure 5). FIGURE 5 9. Check the installation. Make sure that the fittings are tight and that air is not leaking. FIGURE 6 Writer: EL WB19-07 Page 6 / 8 PART 3 – HOSE REPLACEMENT (ONLY IF DAMAGED) MATERIAL Replacement parts necessary only if the inspection reveals that a hose replacement is needed.
