Car drove fine then in the middle of going through an intersection the vehicle stopped accelerating and check engine light came on. Check code it was P1778 for stepper motor. Vehicle only has 87000 miles on it. Brought to a transmission stop to replace the valve body to have a new stepper motor. Had the part put in to find out the whole transmission failed. We could've been killed in the busy intersection with this happening without warning.

My car transmission is unstable. I have a 2014 Nissan Maxima with 88k miles and check engine soon sensor came up. My car on streets was not shifting properly and eventually would stall. Ran diagnostic, P1778 code for transmission step motor replacement. Replaced this part and transmission still giving issues. My car has stalled on me several times on the highway with my family in the car, very hazardous. The transmission will not shift into gear properly, wont pick up on speed until late , causing rpms to rise dramatically. I've read online in countless posts that the cvt transmission in Nissans are terrible. This is a Nissan issue and needs to be addressed. Very unsafe for Nissan drivers with cvt transmission. I can't afford to pay for a new transmission and i feel that Nissan should honor a transmission replacement for all who have come victim to their faulty cvt transmissions. These faulty issues pose a threat to the drivers, passengers, and all who use the roads for driving, pedestrian walking and driving on highways.

The vehicle stopped on the road with no fault indication. On a long high ambient temperature drive from nashville, tn to florida, we exited the expressway stopped at a traffic light made a right hand turn and after a brief acceleration all propulsion to the wheels was lost while the engine was still running. This happened at 12:30 am, the next morning went to the vehicle to see if it was heat related, and the vehicle would start to accelerate to a low speed and then engine torque would drop and vehicle would roll for a while and then accelerate. It would take 4- 6 seconds to accelerate up to 35 mph. Drove to the dealership that was a few miles away. At the dealership they found multiple diagnostic codes related to the transmission: P1700, P1778, P1740, P0868. P0746 they needed to replace the transmission to fix. Amongst all of this there was never a fault indication to the driver. The vehicle quits on the road with trouble codes in the control module and no indication to the driver to give a chance to service the transmission before catastrophic failure. Along with the lack of acceleration with no driver notification (was evident that the engine torque was backed off due to transmission dtc's).

I was traveling from houston, tx to dallas, tx midday on may 1, 2021. I was approximately 40 miles outside of dallas on i-45 traveling 75 mph when i suddenly felt a sputter and then the speed instantly decreased from 75 mph to 20 mph on a busy major interstate. I was almost hit twice as i tried to exit the interstate with cars traveling upwards of 75+ mph, blowing and honing and cursing me. I made it off the interstate and turned the car off. After making several calls for help, i was instructed by a mechanic to wait a few minutes and restart the car and try to accelerate while on the feeder. So i did, and the car did accelerate enough to get back on the interstate. I had to do this 5 times to get the remainder of the 40 miles to m destination. I took my car to metro dallas Nissan in flower mound, tx on may 3, 2021. I was told the inspection found codes P1778, P0778 found in ecm and tcm found transmission to be slipping and therefore, the cvt assembly needed to be replaced.....= $5523.00!!!! I have always had my car serviced at Nissan dealerships, maintained the car impeccably, driven with care and i am devastated! Although the car is 8 years old with 139k miles, there is no logical reason for the transmission to need replacing except for defective equipment from Nissan. I plan to continue to pursue the matter. I cannot afford to spend $5k on a car i worked so hard to pay off.

I purchased my car in 2016 which was previously a lease. When i got the car i noticed a whirring sound as i applied the gas and a low pull as it coasted downhill. Several different people i asked about this stated it was normal. I've never driven or owned a Nissan before and i just thought it was the way the car drives. A couple of months ago, after driving to get my son from college, the car barely went above 60 mph as i pressed the gas. I pulled over, thought it was too hot or maybe a bad battery (had it tested, still good) or maybe the fuel injector. I stopped and got some fuel injector cleaner and let my car rest for a bit before heading 2 hours back home. It never happened again until this past friday. Had the codes read when it became sluggish and was given P1778 code. Ultimately, myself, my daughter and my 2 foster daughters got stuck in traffic b/c my car barely moved at all during stop and go traffic. I had it towed and when the mechanic checked it that monday morning he confirmed that my transmission was bad and to take it back to the dealer, that Nissan has had several problems w/ it and it should be under an extended warranty, which repairs may otherwise run b/w $3000.00-$4000.00. Upon my research, contact w/ Nissan consumer affairs and the dealer i've come to understand that my year (2013 Nissan Rogue) is not covered under the extended warranty and this appears to be a burden and danger to consumers that Nissan has been aware of at least since 2003 yet has not been vigilant enough to fix. I also see where there have been and currently are class action law suits against Nissan regarding the cvt transmissions. I have no alternative means of transportation. Please help!!!

Three hours into my drive, i was going about 70 mph and noticed my car started to slow down and was making a noise. I pulled over, got out, checked my power steering fluid. It was fine so i drove off and as i was entering the freeway, i noticed the car wasn't picking up speed again. I drove to the next exit and got off. I literally coasted to a parking lot of an industrial building. After several attempts at trying to leave the parking lot, i noticed i couldn't go up the hill. I waited about 30 minutes, picked up speed and made it up the hill and onto a 2 lane road. I drove to a hotel about 4 miles away, going about 40 mph. I realized that as long as i didn't stop, i would be fine. The next morning i found a mechanic shop, called and drove there with minimal problems. He told me the year, make and model of my car had been having issues with the cvt transmission. He hooked a machine up and it gave him these codes: P0746, P0826, P1778 step motor, P0868. He told me to check for recalls. I was able to drive the car 3 hours back to my house in woodbridge.

At 105,000 miles, transmission would not remain engaged in overdrive at greater than 60mph resulting in high rpm over 3200. Dealer inspected and stated past dtc code of P1778 (step motor issue/cvt slipping). Dealer reflash car computer but said if that didn't fix it the car would need a new transmission. Seems odd it's the same problem that was happening with 2003-2010 transmissions because i was told that issue was resolved in later models.

Driving at highway speeds car engine suddenly revved to approx. 5000 rpm. Pulled over and upon accelerating again the car would drive but the engine revved very high and the cvt wouldn't change gear ratios ("shift") as it normally does. Realized car would accelerate and not rev as high if i accelerated extremely slowly. Car however is extremely dangerous to drive at this point. Also couldn't drive above 55 mph without the engine revving very high approaching redline. After approx 5 more miles of driving the "service engine" light came on and i scanned the code. Showing code P1778 which appears to be a stepper motor problem with the cvt. Called dealer and sounds like they don't fix cvt, just replace for between $4000-$5000. Very disappointed Nissan hasn't resolved these problems yet and that they treat a $5000 part as a replacement item and not one that can be fixed.

This happens to me on the interstate 64 westbound from richmond, va to harrisburg, va going uphill where i was going 70 - 75 mph when the vehicle loss acceleration and my speed dropped dramatically almost causing a wreck. This is due to being in the left lane and having nowhere, i could pull off the interstate readily available. Took the vehicle to midas where i had them run a diagnostic test on the car to see if there are any codes on the car since there is "no check engine light on." the technician came back with the following: 'tech found that the cvt transmission is having internal problems-vehicle us not safe to drive. Tech found code P1722 est vehicle speed signal, P0744 at tr sw function, P1778 step motor. Also, vehicle needs front struts and rear shocks - no control of steering wheel.' it appears Nissan has had problems with the cvt transmission from their 2007 - 2010 Sentra and issued an extended ten year - 120,000 miles warranty. Nissan needs to extend the warranty to every year that Nissan has used the cvt transmission as they are unreliable and eventually will cause a fatal accident on the highways with their transmission going into limp mode.Would like my vehicle added to the cvt extended warranty - 10 years + 120,000 miles since my vehicle is experiencing the same issues as the 2007 - 2010 vehicles. I took the van then to the dealership and they told me that they found the same error code, and they told me that the transmission needs to be replaced at approx $3800 dls. The van has 76,000 miles. And so far, i've seen numerous sites that have claims and list problems with Nissan transmissions, and Nissan is not taking care of customers. The first incident happened last summer. While going up a hill at 75mph (speed limit in that state), the cruise control cut off, and vehicle lost power, and rpm's would not exceed 2500 rpm and would not go over 60mph, which every time i hit a hill, would decrease to 40mph. This happened 3 times in the next two hours, where rpm's would not exceed 2500 rpm, which is very dangerous when semi-trucks are behind you. A search online stated this was the transmission going into fail-safe mode, although the dealership stated no, because a code would come back. For almost a year, i would not take my car out of town for work, for fear this would happen again. Decided to take it on a long road trip this august, and again, the same incident occurred. This time, the only way to get rpm's and mph's back, was to pull over and let the car sit for 20 minutes or so. It would then drive normal for anywhere from 30 min-1 hour, before loosing power again. Took it into dealership upon arriving home, and this time, there is a bulletin for the transmission fluid overheating, and it needs a cooler, to the tune of $1,400 and is 2 months backordered. I was told this problem would only occur on long road trips, and i would be fine taking it on a 5 hr trip that weekend. Come 3 days later, 45 minutes into the trip, the cruise control cut off, began blinking, check engine light came on, and rpm's decreased to btwn 2000-2500. Pulled over to let it cool, and then it would not accelerate over 40mph on the highway. Decided to turn back around, and 3 times on the way home (appx. Every 15 minutes), i lost all power. The car was still running, but the rpm's would not go over 0, and the car would not move. Had to let it sit for 15-20 minutes each time, and then was able to drive 15 min, before loosing all power again. Took it into auto shop, and code reads, "P1778", which is "step-motor malfunction".

Cvt Nissan 2010 Maxima problems & issues ----these are recorded problems with Nissan's new cvt transmission on Nissan Maxima 2010. The cvt exhibits lost of power, high rpm, loud whining noise, and cvt gets stuck in 6th gear (won't down shift) in manual and drive mode. The car will not accelerate at high speeds and gives a P1778 code (other codes as well). . This cvt transmission sucks. I took it to four dealerships. I was told nothing is wrong. The car was finally diagnosed with "check engine light on". The error code 1778 &. Four other codes were pulled in total. The overall diagnosis is "complete cvt transmission failure"i contacted Nissan consumer affairs. The code occurred at 44k, 65k, 85k miles, and 94k miles, and each time it was undiagnosable since the check engine light did not stay on. I was able to get this diagnosed with a check engine light on at 124,000 miles. At Nissan consumer affairs i spoke with megan, juanita and then callia from the executive branch (so she says - she was a telephone representative). All of these Nissan reps have no knowledge of Nissan engines or cvt's. Consumer affairs refused to believe that the dealers refused to acknowledge the problem exists, even despite the tsb's, warranty extension, numerous customer complaints, and my numerous calls over the past two years to Nissan consumer affairs. All in all they did not even acknowledge the ongoing issues with the cvt. These Nissan dealers, Nissan service departments, and Nissan consumer affairs are crooks --- i would advise anyone to not buy Nissan cars. 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA with 35000.0 miles

Nissan Maxima 2010 - sport edition. The cvt transmission exhibits severe lose of power on 75mph roadway driving between phoenix and flagstaff arizona, up elevation. Lack of power is present in heavy traffic as well. On 75 mph highways the cvt begins to whine, the engine has high rpm, loud whining noise from cvt, and car gets stuck in 6th gear in both manual shift mode and drive mode. The vehicle will not accelerate or maintain speed with other vehicles at the posted 75 mph speed limit. The vehicle will not give a code but once gave a P1778 code - faulty solenoid or step up motor. This issue occurs frequently within city driving as well, in addition to high speed highways on long drives over hilly roads climbing up elevation. In city driving the cvt will not respond when the gas pedal is depressed leaving the vehicle in the center of traffic when entering a busy highway. At other times the vehicle is able to accelerate dramatically (normal) to the speed of cars on a busy main street (55mph). And, then suddenly the car just lacks power when entering a busy 3-4 lane street (55 mph) and you find yourself in the middle of busy 3-4 lane street with approaching oncoming traffic. The vehicle is barely able to get itself out of the way at full throttle. The problem has been getting progressively worst and did not occur when the car was purchased new. Cvt fluid was changed at 44,000 miles prior to Nissan recommendation. This cvt transmission sucks and the dealerships are giving customers a hard time since the problem doesn't not give a engine trouble code. The code P1778 eventually is cleared from the computer on its own when it does occur. The problem with this cvt transmission persists and is a major safety issue because the vehicle will suddenly fail to accelerate and maintain the posted speed limit during city driving and on high speed highways.

After driving for about 10 minutes, the transmission did not want to come out of low gear. At 35 mph, i was at about 6,000rpms in drive. I confirmed the overdrive off button is not engaged, nor is it in "l", and the emergency brake is off. When it has been cooled off for about 3+ hours, it will drive fairly normal for about 10-12 minutes until warmed up, then it all starts again. Even once it is cooled off, there is a slight drag on power and it will begin to have erratic shifting (similar to a regular automatic transmission slipping) after a few minutes on take off it feels like the parking brake is on, but it is not. The service engine soon light comes on, the vdc control light comes on, and another light that is above the vdc light comes on. Codes P0720 and P1778 were found by a local non-Nissan dealer who checked them as a courtesy for me. Have discovered that Nissan has extended the cvt transmission warranty on certain Nissans up to 10 yrs or 120,000 miles, my Sentra is included among others. Get more info at: http://www.Nissanassist.Com/programdetails.Php. However, my local Nissan dealer says if it will cost me 4 hours labor at $125 hr to tear down for a full diagnosis. If not covered, i have to pay that. A call to another Nissan service center explained the same expense. He also told me that there are many coming thru that are under the replacement program due to a defect that causes engine coolant into the transmission. For that problem, Nissan will replace it but they expect the customer to pay $2,000 toward the bill. That is ridiculous for a manufacturer defect in design that they have acknowledged that causes the failure. I have found in the Nissan factory cvt manual that the problem is internal and mechanical according to its own diagnostics see that manual here http://allSentra.Com/fsm/2009_Sentra/cvt.Pdf . I have a 2010, but it is the same.

Codes P1778 (sep motor function) and P00845 (transmission fluid pressure) for the cvt transmission. In researching these, i found many complaint trails concerning these transmissions and various related codes. Nissan's answer is always to replace the transmission at high costs to owner. Mine continues to run but in a kind of crippled mode called "safe mode" that is an attempt to reduce major transmission damages. Codes occurred during driving on side streets under 45 mph. Vehicle can no longer be used at highway speeds as the "safe mode" limits rpm and speed.

We began experiencing transmission problems approximately 1 year ago. The first indication of trouble was the inability of keeping a set speed while vehicle was set in cruise control. We could hear the transmission struggling to get to the set speed and could see the rpm shoot up at the same time. The other common problem occurs while veh is at a complete stop and then the accelerator is pressed in order to proceed (i.E. Through an intersection), the veh will not move for several seconds while continuing to press the accel pedal. Then, very abruptly the veh will shoot into the intersection at a high rate of speed. *** this seems to be a continuing but intermittent problem. It occurs without warning-sometimes at high speeds on a freeway, often at low speeds in stop and go traffic. Recently, while on a very busy and dangerous roadway in lexington,ky during rush hour, i experienced the inability to reach the speed limit of 55 mph. While attempting to reach the speed, the tachometer (rpm) would increase to near warning (red zone) levels. I felt as a driver that i was completely helpless and in possible danger from the heavy traffic and my distraction. The town we live in has a high number of 4-way stop intersections. We have 2 school-aged children and do a lot of in-town driving. If there is a hesitation by me as a driver due to a mechanical problem, the other 3 drivers may not realize that i have established an intent to move into the 4-way intersection. In the past, a driver of one of the other 3 cars has entered the int and i have had to make an emergency type stop to avoid a collision. Our Nissan dealership (glenn Nissan-lexington,ky) examined our vehicle on 5/6/2008. They have advised us that our cvt transmission needs to be replaced. Estimated cost $5,030.00. The codes given are "dtc po868, P1778. Mileage 97148. We did purchase the extended warranty, and are past the 72 month point (although still under the 100k mileage point).
