• Recall 155371 [USA]: A broken steering tie rod would lead to a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain 2018-2019 bmw x1 sdrive28i, x1 xdrive28i, 2019 x2 xdrive28i, mini cooper s convertible, countryman, and john cooper works countryman vehicles. The steering gear tie rod may have been assembled incorrectly, which may result in excessive wear of the tie rod end, eventually causing it to break.
  bmw will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the tie rods and ball joints as necessary, free of charge. The recall began october 11, 2019. Owners may contact bmw customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or mini customer service at 1-866-825-1525.

• Recall 149707 [USA]: In the event of a crash, the insufficient impact absorption can increase the risk of injury.
  Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain 2016-2019 x1 sdrive28i and x1 xdrive28i vehicles. In the event of a crash where the occupants head contacts the b-pillar, the pillar may not absorb an adequate amount of the impact. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 201, "occupant protection in interior impact."
  bmw will notify owners, and dealers will replace the vertical trim pieces on the upper portion of the interior b-pillars, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed july 1, 2019. Second notices will be sent as parts become available, starting on september 27, 2019. The crankshaft sensor may be equipped with incorrect firmware, preventing the sensor from properly processing input from the crankshaft reluctor ring, possibly resulting in a vehicle stall. • Recall R/2018/171 [UK]: Front axle swivel bearings may not have been produced to specification
  Due to a fault in the supplier production process the swivel bearings on the front axle of the affected vehicles may not have been produced to specification. Due to an insufficient heat treatment the fracture strain has been reduced. The affected swivel bearings could break causing loss of wheel guidance during driving.
  on the affected vehicles both swivel bearings will be checked and if necessary replaced with a part produced to specification.

• Recall R/2018/211 [UK]: Software fault with crankshaft sensor
  The affected vehicles may be equipped with a crankshaft sensor with a software fault. The crankshaft sensor cannot process the signal values from the crankshaft transmitter due to an improper firmware level. The firmware does not compensate sufficiently the temperature gradients and the magnetic field strength of the sensor electronic. If the crankshaft sensor cannot process the signal values from the transmitter the digital diesel electronic (dde) will notice that and change to the emergency operation mode. The emergency mode will be displayed by the check control message ?Engine malfunction?. The driver may notice a rough running engine and a reduced driving power (70%). However an engine stalling during driving conditions cannot be excluded.

• Recall 2021777 [Canada]: Brakes
  Issue: on certain vehicles, the tell-tale (warning light) for the antilock brake system (abs) doesn't light up in the instrument cluster when you start the vehicle. Canadian regulations require the abs tell-tale to turn on during the start-up sequence to tell you that the abs is working. Note: the braking system will continue to work normally, and the abs tell-tale will turn on when there is a problem with the abs. Safety risk: if the abs tell-tale does not turn on during start-up, you may not know if the abs is working correctly. A problem with the abs will cause a warning message to appear on the vehicle's central information display screen, even if the abs tell-tail fails. Corrective actions: bmw will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer update the vehicle software.

• Recall 2019042 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
  Issue: on certain vehicles, the brackets for the rear tail lights may crack. This could cause the tail lights to separate from the vehicle. Safety risk: if the tail lights separate from the vehicle, others may not see the vehicle and its turn signals or brake lights. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer for an inspection of the rear tail lights. The mounting nuts will be replaced, and if necessary, dealers will replace the tail lights.

• Recall 2018497 [Canada]: Engine
  On certain vehicles, a crankshaft sensor error may cause the engine to stall. This would result in a loss of motive power, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. Note: this condition would result in the illumination of the check engine warning lamp and an “engine malfunction” message appearing in the instrument cluster. • Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA21002

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). While driving (car moving and in drive) the rear hatch opened on the vehicle to about a mid-way position completely obscuring vision from rear view mirror. Fortunately i was able to pull to the side of the road and nothing fell out of the cargo area. Key fob was in my pocket - no buttons were pushed (on purpose or accidentally).

The heater blower ceased working. The back brakes needed to be replaced for a 3rd time, and the factory never sealed the air filter for the engine properly.

The car had 14,500 miles on it when the problem occured. My wife drove the car to chicago and back , upon returning she parked the car in the garage removed some groceries the came back to get the rest and the car was smoking from under the hood. She then called me as i was not home and asked what to do, i told her to get the car out of the garage and because of the intense smoke said she was afraid so i told her to call the fire dept. Which she did. 30 minutes latter the car and garage and all contents were destroyed.

Filing complaint in regards to recall campaign no.19v-349. Bmw has not responded to, nor reached out to fix my affected car. While this is a voluntary recall, they have not responded in a timely manner. Last official communication with them was in july 2019

Safety recall in april with still no fix or even estimated time frame on fix as of november.
