Riding on level road, cruising about 40 mph. Front brakes lock and would not release. This pitched me over the handle bars, i.E. Stoppie. The problem was the rear brake pads "disappeared" and the remaining rear pad backing plate caused over heating of rear rotor and rear master cylinder. Red hot. Boiled fluid. Upon cool down, (me and the ducati) front brakes released and bike was able to move but without rear brakes. May be a problem with abs or traction control. Bike is still at shop with replacement of pads, rotor and master. ~ 600+ i'm a bit of a wrench turner and this is the first time i've seen rear brakes on any vehicle fail at less that 10,000 miles. Who uses the back brakes on a motorcycle anyway? I've been riding for 30 years, and i never have. Bike is 15 days outof warranty. :o( *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ducati monster 1100 evo 1100. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the abs warning light illuminated and the rear wheel seized. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the rear brakes failed. As a result, the rear master cylinder, the brake pads and the rotors needed to be replaced. Also, the dealer notified the contact that the vehicle was not included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 12v188000 ( service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The was repaired. The failure mileage was 9,200 and the current mileage was 9,800. Updated 08/12/14*lj

The rear brake went out twice. I had it fixed under warranty in september of 2013. Now it is out of warranty and the rear brake is out again. The company refuses to fix the issue till i pay out of pocket first. The rear brake pedal travels to the floor with no bite at all. I've read on forums that i am not the first to have this issue. *tr

My son was killed in a crash on i-270 in columbus ohio at the sr 315 interchange. According to an eyewitness he had just passed her about 70-75 mph, in the third lane from the birm out of 5. Began struggling with control, she said the rear of the bike was shimmying. The loss of control got progessively worse, he crossed three lanes of traffic and crashed into a guardrail rear end first. He was killed instantly. I have since seen many comments about ducati monster, and mototard 1100's exhibiting what is called "high speed wobble at 75 to 80 mph. I am concerned that they amy be placing their riders at grave risk. I would like to know if this is being investigated, or if it warrants and investigation, trooper diehl of the ohp informed me that high toxicolgy was negative, and there was apparently no road debri that would have led to the crash. He said that it is classified as an unexplained loss of control. He was wearing a helmet and he was an experienced rider. He was 25 years old and a sgt in the marine corp res. With h&s company out of brookpark ohio.
