• Recall 147351 [USA]: The failed bracket could result in a loss of park function which can cause unintended vehicle movement, and loss of motive power while driving which increases the risk of a crash.
  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain 2014-2016 explorer, 2014-2015 taurus and 2014 edge vehicles equipped with 2.0l or 2.3l engines and front wheel drive. The support bracket for the front drive axle halfshaft may fail.
  ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the link shaft bracket, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Owners received an interim notification detailing safety risk december 8, 2020. A second letter will be mailed when parts become available in january 2021. The recall began february 2, 2021. • Recall 108682 [USA]: If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Ford motor company (ford) notified the agency on january 8, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2014 ford escape vehicles manufactured april 15, 2014, to may 8, 2014, and 2015 lincoln mkc vehicles manufactured april 21, 2014, to may 15, 2014. On april 30, 2015, ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 45,505 vehicles, including certain model year 2014-2015 ford transit connect vehicles manufactured november 11, 2013, to august 29, 2014, 2014-2015 ford fiesta vehicles manufactured april 10, 2014, to june 17, 2014 and 2014 ford edge vehicles manufactured april 30, 2014, to may 21, 2014. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.

• Recall 105470 [USA]: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 ford edge and lincoln mkx vehicles manufactured september 2, 2010, to november 30, 2013; 2013-2014 ford taurus and lincoln mks vehicles manufactured august 25, 2011, to november 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 ford flex and lincoln mkt vehicles manufactured september 12, 2011, to november 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.
  ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on august 4, 2014.   Issue: on certain vehicles, the front link shaft (intermediate shaft) bracket can break. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. Also, if this happens and the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied, the vehicle could roll away. Safety risk: a loss of power to the wheels or a vehicle rollaway could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front link shaft bracket.

  On certain vehicles, improper nickel plating of certain fuel pump internal components could contaminate the pump, potentially resulting in an inoperative fuel pump. This could result in a no-start condition, or an engine stall without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: dealers will replace the fuel delivery module (fdm).

  On certain vehicles, the right-side halfshaft retention clip may not have been fully engaged, and could allow the halfshaft to separate. If this were to occur while the vehicle is being driven, it could result in a loss of motive power. If this were to occur while the vehicle is parked on an incline without the parking brake applied, it could result in unintended vehicle movement. Both situations could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will inspect halfshafts for full retention and affect repairs as necessary.

• Wheel separation investigation # PE15020

  On november 29, 2014, odi received a complaint reporting the complete separation of an original equipment 22-inch alloy wheel rim mounted on the right front position of a model year 2014 ford edge vehicle (voq 10661278).The driver indicated that the right-front corner of the vehicle suddenly dropped while driving, causing the vehicle to go off the road to the right and into a field.The right-front wheel rim was found to have broken into two pieces. The owner said that there was no prior warning or wheel related problems with the vehicle. The vehicle had been driven approximately 8,500 miles at the time of the incident.On may 29, 2015 odi sent an information request to ford asking for detailed information related to the specific 22 inch alloy wheel used on the edge as well as any peer vehicles which used the same type of wheel.On july 17, 2015 ford provided odi with the requested information. Fords search showed that the single incident reported to odi is the only instance of a wheel failure on the subject or peer vehicles.The failed wheel was sent to the national transportation service board (ntsb) materials analysis laboratory for examination. The ntsb determined that the wheel failed because of a severe impact that caused a crack that rapidly propagated around the circumference of the wheel, "the rim fracture surface had a predominantly rough appearance consistent with an overstress fracture (rapid fracture)there were no abnormalities or unique features associated with the fracture initiation site."metallurgical analysis of the rim found that the material was within specification and no anomalies were identified that could have contributed to the failure.See the full ntsb report for more details.Based on the absence of additional failures and the results of the wheel material testing and failure analysis, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist. Brake booster issue. Brake pedal feels spongy/soft when trying to stop. Vehicle makes a whirring/hissing noise when letting off the brake pedal. The car feels like it won't stop in time for a stop sign or stop light while going as slow as 25 mph. There is an extended warranty on this make/model, but ford refuses to honor it and fix it. I have a vehicle with less than 65,000 miles that is undriveable. No warning lights came on the dashboard at all. The brakes got spongy out of no where. No warning. Ford has confirmed the issue. No accidents in the vehicle because i refuse to drive it now.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed a brake booster and vacuum leak. The vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,495.

Driving down the hwy, lost all acceleration. Engine still alive, had power, radio, air etc had to coast to the side of the road. Restarted car after a few minutes and problem resolved. Took to dealer but they could not find a code. Suggested replacing throttle body as possible solution based on how often they see this.

The vehicle instrument cluster displays a "driver door ajar" warning...Despite the door being fully closed. The dome lights stay on, and an "engine on" alert appears, as well. To clear it, the driver's door must be closed several times. It is occurring more and more often. The vehicle is stationary during this problem. It seems this is a rampant problem from what my research indicates...And should seemingly dictate a factory recall.

During the failure, the door could not be locked and the interior lights remained illuminated. On one occasion, the front driver's side door lock had frozen and the door could not be properly secured.
