  • Recall 111022 [USA]: If engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, there is an increased risk of a fire.
Paccar incorporated (paccar) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 kenworth t440, t800, and w900 trucks manufactured august 31, 2009, to april 20, 2015, and 2008-2015 peterbilt 320, 337, 348, 365, 382, and 384 trucks manufactured july 27, 2007, to april 28, 2015, and equipped with certain cummins westport isl g engines. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.
cummins will notify owners on behalf of paccar, and cummins service centers will administer the repairs which include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module (ecm) with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. • Recall 2020148 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
Issue: on certain trucks, the warning light for the tractor anti-lock brake system (abs) may not turn on if the system loses power. If this happens, the driver will not get warning that the abs is not working properly. Note: this problem would also cause the traction control (tc) and electronic stability control (esc) lights not to turn on. Safety risk: if a driver is not warned that the abs is not working properly, there could be an increased risk of a crash. Corrective actions: paccar will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to update the software for the cab control module (cecu).

  • Recall 2017590 [Canada]: Accessories
On certain fire trucks, the retaining ring(s) in the relief valve assembly may not have been made using high grade stainless steel, causing it to deteriorate over time due to frequent exposure to water. If the retaining ring fails, the relief valve may break down and prevent the fire pump from building adequate pressure, which would increase the risk of injury during firefighting operations. Correction: dealers or certified technicians will inspect and replace the retaining ring(s) as necessary.

  • Recall 2017267 [Canada]: Brakes
Certain vehicles equipped with neway adz tridem rear suspension may not comply with the brake timing requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 121 - air brake systems. The brake control airline between the two relay valves is plumbed with a 3/8" airline but should be plumbed with a 1/4" line to balance the service brake application timing and meet the requirement of the standard. An oversized airline could cause a delay in brake activation and increase stopping distances, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will update and modify the brake piping of the air brake system.

  • Recall 2015211 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles equipped with cummins westport isl-g engines, excessive engine crankcase pressure could cause the vent tube assembly elbow to detach from the breather. This could allow engine oil to come in contact with hot surfaces, increasing the risk of fire resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will install clamps at both ends of the elbow of the breather tube assembly and reprogram the electronic control module (ecm) to improve diagnostic capabilities.

  • Recall 2015190 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, water could migrate into wiper motor head and could lead to internal corrosion. This internal corrosion could form a conductive salt bridge which could result in a short circuit, causing the wiper system to fail. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, and a short circuit could increase the risk of fire, which could result in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will install a shield over the wiper motor to protect it from water intrusions and prevent corrosion.

  • Recall 2013057 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
On certain vehicles equipped with an exterior lights test switch, pressing the switch while the vehicle is in motion will cause all exterior lighting to be turned off. An unexpected loss of lighting during vehicle operation could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will reprogram the vehicle to disable the exterior lights test switch.

  • Recall 2012285 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain trucks, the driveshaft attachment bolts may not have received adequate tightening torque during vehicle assembly. Should the fasteners loosen and fall out, a driveshaft could detach from the vehicle. This would result in a loss of vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road condition, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Also, a driveshaft separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will tighten the u-joint fasteners of both driveshafts to the prescribed torque.

  • Recall 2012027 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain trucks equipped with bendix atr-6 antilock traction relay valves, in extremely cold conditions (at or below -18 degrees celsius), internal atr valve leakage can occur. This could cause unintended brake application, which could overheat the affected brakes and cause a fire. Also, in certain low traction conditions, unexpected brake application can cause a loss of vehicle control and a crash. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will update the cover assembly on the atr valves.
