• Recall 143737 [USA]: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  Subaru of america, inc. (subaru) is recalling certain 2009-2013 forester, 2003-2006 baja, 2004-2011 impreza, 2004-2014 wrx (including sti), 2003-2014 legacy and outback, and 2005-2006 saab 9-2x vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in the states of alaska, colorado, connecticut, idaho, iowa, maine, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, montana, new hampshire, new york, north dakota, oregon, rhode island, south dakota, utah, vermont, washington, wisconsin, and wyoming or "zone c." these vehicles had their passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
  subaru will notify their owners. General motors will notify saab owners. Dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflators, free of charge. The recall began january 7, 2020. (subaru) is recalling certain model year 2003-2004 legacy and outback vehicles, and 2003-2005 baja vehicles sold, or ever registered, in geographic locations associated with high absolute humidity. Specifically, vehicles sold, or ever registered, in puerto rico, hawaii, the u.S. Virgin islands, guam, saipan, american samoa, florida and adjacent counties in southern georgia, as well as the coastal areas of alabama, louisiana, mississippi and texas. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

• Recall 100365 [USA]: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
  Airtex products lp (airtex) is recalling certain model e8598m, e8518m, e8600m, e8596m, and e8597m fuel pumps manufactured july 26, 2013, and july 29, 2013 and used as aftermarket replacements on subaru baja's, outback's and legacy's. The affected fuel pumps were sold or installed into the aftermarket applications on or after july 26, 2013, and may may leak fuel from the base of a fuel line connection when the gas tank is full.

• Recall 82752 [USA]: Fuel can leak from the hose connection. a fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
  Subaru is recalling 15,761 my 2005-2006 baja vehicles. Cracks may develop in the fuel hose connection on the outlet pressure side of the fuel pump.
  dealers will replace the fuel pump bracket including all nipples with a new and stronger design part. This service will be performed free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during september 2009. Owners may contact subaru at 1-800-782-2783.

• Recall 2020001 [Canada]: Airbag
  Issue: this recall is for certain vehicles that had an airbag inflator replaced as a part of an earlier recall campaign. This recall provides a final repair. Long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety risk: if the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective actions: owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the passenger-front airbag inflator. The passenger-front airbag module or inflator will be replaced as necessary. Note: the canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.

• Air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA15001

  The office of defects investigation (odi) opened pe14-016 in june 2014 based on six inflator rupture incidents involving consumer owned vehicles produced by five vehicle manufacturers.All six vehicles were operated in florida or puerto rico at the time of the rupture and for the majority of their service life, and were equipped with inflators produced by takata, a tier-one supplier of automotive air bag systems.During the course of pe14-016, odi determined that five additional vehicle manufacturers used inflators of a similar design and vintage also supplied by takata. No evidence of field failures was found in vehicles produced by these five additional manufacturers.Nonetheless, at odis insistence, all 10 vehicle manufacturers initiated a regional recall within approximately two weeks of the opening of the investigation.The regions recalled initially included florida, puerto rico, hawaii, and the u.S. Virgin islands, areas with high absolute humidity and climatic conditions believed to be a significant factor in the inflator ruptures.As part of the recall actions, inflators removed from remedied vehicles are to be returned to takata for testing.Takatas initial test results on passenger inflators from remedied vehicles indicated a much higher than anticipated rupture frequency for inflators returned from florida.Accordingly odi requested all 10 manufacturers expand the regional recalls for passenger inflators to include other geographic areas where high absolute humidity conditions exist, including the gulf states and other coastal areas.Takatas testing of the passenger inflators to date continues to indicate this geographic area as having the highest risk, with no ruptures occurring from inflators returned from outside the expanded recall regions.During pe14-016 four additional passenger inflator field events occurred, all in vehicles from the same expanded geographic region.Also during pe14-016 four additional driver inflator field events occurred including two in vehicles from regions not known for high absolute humidity, specifically california and north carolina.Accordingly, odi requested all five of the affected vehicle manufacturers currently using the subject takata driver inflators expand to nationwide recalls.Significantly, neither of the affected vehicle manufacturers or takata provided any explanation to account for these two driver air bag inflator ruptures outside the area of high absolute humidity.Takata testing of returned driver inflators indicates a lower rupture frequency as compared to passenger inflator testing.All test ruptures reported by takata to date have occurred on inflators returned from high absolute humidity areas.The investigation now includes all manufacturers and vehicles known to be affected at this time.Odis investigation will focus on, among other things, root cause analysis, other potential defect consequences, identification of affected vehicles scope, and adequacy of the remedy.The five odi reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.Nhtsa.Dot.Gov/owners/searchnhtsaid under the following identification numbers: 10537899, 10568848, 10585224, 10605877, 10651492

• Fuel pump leaks investigation # EA09007

  Subaru will conduct a safety recall (09v-277) on all 15, 633 model year (my) 2005 and my 2006 baja vehicles, including turbo and non-turbo models.Subaru has identified a defect in which cracks develop in the fuel hose connection (nipple) on the outlet (pressure) side of the fuel pump.This condition can result in a pressurized leak of gasoline from the fuel pump.Subarus analysis of sample parts collected from the field confirmed the issue to be limited to my 2005 and my 2006 vehicles only.Subaru dealers will replace the fuel pump bracket, including all nipples, with a version that has been modified for increased strength.Please see subarus defect report in the recall file (09v-277) for more details.This investigation is closed.

The contact stated that upon taking his vehicle to an independent mechanic for an oil change, the mechanic discovered that brake fluid was leaking from the brake line. Due to the brake fluid leak, corrosion developed around the brake line. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 121,000. The vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 subaru baja. While driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed and the brake alarm indicator illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to gerald jones subaru (706-760-4102, located at 4022 washington rd, augusta, ga 30907) where it was determined that there was no recall for the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 240,000.

The vehicle is leaking fuel. When tank is full the presence of the fumes are overwhelming. Other 2005 baja's have been repaired under a recall, but mine has not been fixed. I can't park in a garage due to life threatening reasons and it could ignite right now. Please help me.

Tl* takata recall. The contact owns a 2005 subaru baja. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v016000 (air bags) however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced any failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. Vin tool confirms remedy not yet available.

Fuel smell when starting vehicle for several months reported to dealership and service refused to do check for cause, though they were paid to.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 subaru baja. The contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 16v358000 (air bags). The parts needed for the recall remedy were still not available and the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

Received a letter 8-1-16 passenger side air bag stating that parts are unavailable and not to let anyonedrive in the front passenger side. Mfg can not give a date. Will this have no end? They just notified me now and nothing can be resolved?

I recently had issues with the suspension while the car was in motion, so took the vehicle to my mechanic. I was informed that the rear sub frame and upper control arm mounting ears have rotted out.
