• Recall 256928 [USA]: Beacons that do not provide proper illumination may be less visible to wheelchair lift users, increasing the risk of injury.
  Volvo bus corporation (volvo bus) is recalling certain 2013-2021 9700 buses. The red beacon lighting on the threshold warning system (tws) may not be bright enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard number 403, "platform lift systems."
  prevost will replace the red beacons, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed february 7, 2024. A second notice will be mailed once the remedy is available. • Recall 215564 [USA]: In the event that a mobility device pushes into the outer barrier, the barrier may fail, increasing the risk of injury for the lift occupant.
  Volvo bus corporation (volvo bus) is recalling certain 2009-2021 volvo 9700 vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts. When the lift's outer barrier is fully deployed, it may not withstand a sufficient amount of force, which could cause it to fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard numbers 403, "platform lift systems" and 404, "platform lift installations."

• Recall 149904 [USA]: In the event of a crash, a passenger that does not remain properly restrained has an increased risk of injury.

The passenger seat belt attachments may not be sufficient to anchor the seat belts and restrain the seat occupants in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 210, "seat belt assembly anchorages."

• Recall 2021565 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
  Issue: certain buses were built with headlamps that may not meet the performance requirements of canadian regulations. As a result, the headlamp beam pattern may be too bright in some areas and not be bright enough in others. Safety risk: headlamps that are too bright could cause glare for oncoming drivers. Headlamps that are not bright enough may reduce visibility. Both of these issues could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: volvo buses will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

• Recall 2020639 [Canada]: Powertrain
  Issue: on certain buses, the c1 drive hub in the transmission may fail. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the drive wheels when the bus comes to a stop. This can disable the bus and make it unable to move under its own power. Note: this recall only affects certain buses built with an allison b500 transmission. Safety risk: a bus that is disabled could create the need for a transfer of passengers in an uncontrolled environment, which may create a risk of injury. Corrective actions: volvo will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a volvo service center to update the transmission control module software.

• Alternator front bearing failure investigation # PE21011

  Nhtsas office of defects investigation (odi) opened a preliminary evaluation after reviewing field reports concerning alternator front bearing failures that cause elevated temperatures within the engine compartment, resulting in the fire suppression system (fss) activating, immediately shutting the engine down, and rendering the bus inoperable.Analysis of the data provided by prevost car (us) inc. Showed high failure frequency and thermal events. An immediate shutdown of the bus can increase the risk of a crash or injury of bus occupants. In response to this investigation, prevost car (us) inc. And volvo bus corporation decided to conduct recalls 22v-221 and 22v-222. By submitting part 573 defect information reports on april 6, 2022, prevost car (us) inc. And volvo bus corporation notified odi of a safety defect in certain model year (my) 2010-2023 prevost h3-45; x3-45; x3-45 com; h3-45 vip: x3-45 vip and 2020 volvo 9700 vehicles; some of these buses may have experienced thermal events after failure of the alternator front bearing, because the alternator belt continues to turn the alternator after the bearing failure.These recall actions address the safety concern that led to the opening of this investigation.Therefore, with these recall actions, this investigation is closed. The recalls encompass all model and my vehicles addressed by the investigation. However, the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist in other model or my vehicles outside of the recall scope. The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
