• Recall 138057 [USA]: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
  Daimler trucks north america llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2002-2017 freightliner cascadia, century class, columbia and coronado trucks and western star 4700, 4900, 5700, 5900 and 6900 trucks. These vehicles are equipped with kidde plastic-handle or push button 'pindicator' fire extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable.   dtna will notify owners, and instruct them to contact kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on april 11, 2018.   Daimler trucks north america, llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2008-2018 freightliner cascadia, western star 4700, 4900, 5700, and 6900 trucks. After hard brake applications, the brake light pressure switch may not activate the brake lights with a light application of the brake pedal.

  Issue: on certain trucks, a leak around the windshield could allow water to collect in the connector for the recirculation door actuator for the heating and air condition system. This could lead to damage of the wiring and other parts. As a result, the air conditioning and heating systems may not work properly. There could also be a chance of a short circuit. Safety risk: a short circuit could create the risk of fire. Corrective actions: daimler trucks north america (dtna) will notify owners by mail and provide information on how to inspect for water leaks around the windshield. This is particularly important if the windshield has been replaced. Any repairs necessary to fix a leak or replace parts will be at the owner's expense.

• Recall 2017636 [Canada]: Accessories
  On certain vehicles equipped with kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by kidde directly.   On certain vehicles with air brakes, after several hard brake applications, the brake light pressure switch may not activate the brake lights with a light application of the brake pedal. If the brake lights do not illuminate, following road users would be unaware of the intent of the driver to slow the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. In particular, odi is concerned that dtna may not have acted with appropriate speed in making a defect determination and filing with the agency.
