New SDT Detroit created SDT 013504E for the review and completion of the DD Platform Bearing Failure Guide (DDC-SVC-MAN-0196). The SDT includes all necessary steps to review, inspect, and determine the primary failed part (PFP) in a lower end bearing failure on a Heavy Duty Engine Platform (HDEP) engine. The table below provides the new SDT and applicable engine series, respectively. Some complaints that are associated with a lower end bearing failure include: rod out of block, engine seized, no crank, and noisy or knocking. All results and values from completing the bearing failure guide must be included in the claim narrative Use SDT 021000G (Test E Completion) on claims where the lower end bearing failure was due to reverse engine rotation, see IWI letter 15-017; do not apply SDT 013504E also To claim diagnostic time that was required beyond the SDT, use General Diagnostic Time (labor code 939-1010E) and provide a detailed explanation in the appropriate claim narrative section; please see IWI letter 15-003 for more information about applying General Diagnostic Time.
