  Daimler trucks north america llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2018-2019 freightliner cascadia, business class m2, 108sd, 114sd and 122sd and western star 4700, 4900 and 5700 vehicles. An internal component within the clutch assembly may fail, which in certain circumstances could allow the vehicle to move unexpectedly.
  dtna will notify owners, and dealers will update the software and replace the clutches, free of charge. Dtna issued owners an interim notification on december 7, 2020. • Recall 155255 [USA]: The vehicle's rearward visibility may be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Daimler trucks north america llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2006-2020 freightliner columbia, 2006-2021 freightliner business class m2, 2007-2020 freightliner coronado, 2014-2021 freightliner 122 sd, 2007 sterling a 9500, 2006 freightliner argosy, 2006-2007 sterling at9500, 2008-2021 freightliner cascadia, 2006-2008 freightliner classic, 2006-2011 freightliner century class, 2006-2010 freightliner fld, and 2017 western star 5700 vehicles. The rear reflective tape may be partially covered by the mudflap hanger bracket, which may reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers on the road. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

  Daimler trucks north america llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2017-2019 freightliner 114sd, 122sd, 108sd, cascadia and business class m2 trucks, freightliner custom chassis xbs, xcl, xcm, mt45, mt55, s2g, s2rv, xcr and xcs custom chassis and western star 4700, 4900 and 5700 trucks equipped with detroit axle axles. The affected vehicles may have loose steering and tie rod arm bolts.

In certain driving conditions, such as on a long down-hill grade, the fuel line may burst if the fuel pump cooling circuit screen becomes restricted.

The affected engines have a fuel pump whose drive gear may slip on its drive shaft, resulting in a loss of fuel pump function.

  Issue: on certain trucks equipped with an eaton automated manual transmission and electronic clutch actuator (eca), a component within the clutch assembly could fail. If this happens, the broken clutch components could prevent the transmission from disengaging or shifting to neutral. This could result in unintended vehicle movement, even if the parking brake is applied. Note: this recall replaces fl-803 (transport canada recall 2018-714). Trucks that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety risk: sudden and unexpected movement of the vehicle could create a risk of injury or a crash. Corrective actions: daimler trucks north america (dtna) will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dtna authorized service facility to replace the clutch and update the transmission software.

  Issue: on certain trucks equipped with "fleet engineer" mud flaps, the bracket for the mud flaps may partially cover the rear reflective tape. Canadian regulations require that reflective tape must be visible on the rear of the truck. Safety risk: reflective tape that is covered may make the truck less visible to others and could create an increased risk of a crash. Corrective actions: daimler trucks of north america (dtna) will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to an authorized dtna service facility to inspect the reflective tape. It will be moved as necessary to meet the regulations.

  Issue: on certain trucks equipped with electronic stability control (esc), the brake lights may turn on when the automatic traction control (atc) activates. Canadian regulations do not allow brake lights to turn on when the automatic traction control activates. Safety risk: brake lights that turn on when a vehicle is not slowing could confuse other drivers. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to a daimler trucks north america authorized service facility. The truck will either be reprogrammed or retrofitted so the brake lights do not turn on when the automatic traction control (atc) activates.

If this occurs, the broken clutch components could prevent the transmission from disengaging or shifting to neutral. This could result in unintended vehicle movement, even if the parking brake is applied, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: daimler trucks of north america authorized service facilities will recalibrate the transmission control module (tcm) and replace components as necessary.

  On certain trucks built with a cummins x15 or isx15 engine equipped with nylon fuel lines and a banjo bolt on the fuel pump, a blockage in the fuel cooling system may cause a fuel line to burst. This could result in a significant fuel leak onto the roadway, which would create a road hazard for other motorists. Additionally, this condition could also cause an engine stall without warning, without the ability to restart the engine. Both of these conditions may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: cummins-authorized dealers will replace the affected nylon line with a steel line.

  On certain vehicles equipped with air disc brakes, the brake caliper mounting bolts may be incorrectly torqued. This could result in the caliper bolts loosening, which could lead to the caliper detaching. Insufficiently torqued fasteners may not provide adequate clamping force between the brake caliper and brake anchor plate potentially resulting in reduced brake effectiveness, which would result in increased stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
