  Daimler trucks north america llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2006-2020 freightliner columbia, 2006-2021 freightliner business class m2, 2007-2020 freightliner coronado, 2014-2021 freightliner 122 sd, 2007 sterling a 9500, 2006 freightliner argosy, 2006-2007 sterling at9500, 2008-2021 freightliner cascadia, 2006-2008 freightliner classic, 2006-2011 freightliner century class, 2006-2010 freightliner fld, and 2017 western star 5700 vehicles. The rear reflective tape may be partially covered by the mudflap hanger bracket, which may reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers on the road. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

  Daimler trucks (dtna) is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 freightliner, sterling, and western star vehicles, equipped with detroit diesel epa07 and epa10, dd13 and dd15/16 engines, manufactured from january 20, 2006, through february 20, 2012. The pump to rail high pressure fuel line support system used on these engines is sensitive to assembly torque and may be damaged during service work. As a result of other repairs, the line supports may loosen, potentially leading to fuel line cracking and a fuel leak.

  Daimler trucks is recalling certain model year 2004 through 2008 heavy trucks manufactured from july 11, 2003, through september 28, 2007, equipped with epa04 model mbe4000 engines built with plastic low pressure fuel lines and fuel filters mounted near the center of the engine on the left-hand side. The plastic low pressure fuel line between engine mounted fuel filter and engine block may develop a substantial diesel fuel leak.

  On certain trucks, a manufacturing error in the fuel-water separator preheater thermoswitch may prevent the fuel preheater from turning off if the ignition is left on. • Recall 89079 [USA]: These conditions could either result in leakage and cause a delay in the application of the spring brake without warning or possibly lead to unintended vehicle rollaway or brake drag which could result in a vehicle crash, personal injury, or death.
  Certain freightliner school bus chassis, heavy trucks, and thomas built school buses manufactured between july 2002 and july 3, 2007, equipped with bendix sr-7 spring brake control valves. The parker scv brass 90 degree single check valves (scv) which attach to the supply port of a bendix sr-7 spring brake modulating valve can break apart. Pieces of the parker scv can become lodged inside the sr-7 spring brake modulating valve, potentially causing either leakage out of the sr-7 valve or preventing air from properly exhausting from the sr-7 valve. Also, due to a manufacturing defect in the internal rubber check valve inside the sr-7 spring brake modulating valves, the valves can become deformed and not seat properly.

  Issue: on certain trucks equipped with "fleet engineer" mud flaps, the bracket for the mud flaps may partially cover the rear reflective tape. Canadian regulations require that reflective tape must be visible on the rear of the truck.   On certain trucks equipped with a detroit diesel dd13, dd15 or dd16 engine, the support system for the high pressure fuel line (between the fuel pump and the fuel delivery rail) may be damaged during a service repair procedure. Incorrect torque applied to the dampener "p" clip fasteners may damage the fasteners, which could allow the clips to loosen. This could result in a cracked fuel line and a diesel fuel leak. Diesel fuel leakage may ignite on a hot engine surface and cause a fire. As well, diesel fuel spilt on the roadway could endanger other road users by making the roadway unexpectedly slippery.   On certain trucks, when the ignition key is in the 'on' position, the pre-heater, located in the fuel filter base, is energized. If this pre-heater is energized while maintenance is being performed on the fuel filter, diesel fuel could ignite within the filter housing. A fire within the fuel filter housing may spread possibly resulting in property damage or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the fuel heater assembly.

  On certain trucks, the fifth wheel hitch assembly's lever arm may have been incorrectly installed during the manufacturing process. The lever arm pivot bolt may have been over-tightened which could distort the pivot bolt spacer sleeve and prevent the fifth wheel latch jaw from closing and latching securely around the trailer king pin. This could allow the towed unit to separate from the towing vehicle while underway, potentially causing a crash with injury or death. Correction: dealers will replace the pivot bolt and sleeve with a hex head shoulder bolt and washer.

  Certain trucks fail to comply with the requirements of cmvss 108 - lighting system and retroreflective devices. The front reflex reflectors were omitted during vehicle assembly. This could render the vehicle less visible to other motorist during hours of darkness, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash causing injuries or death. Correction: dealers will install side reflex reflectors to the hood.

• Stop lamps intermittent investigation # PE10007

  This investigation was opened after odi was contacted by a fleet alleging that in certain situations, such as a light brake peal application during a low speed operation, the brake lamps fail to illuminate on the rear of the bus.Odi confirmed the problem with two fleets.On april 29, 2010, daimler filed a defect report concerning this issue. The stop lamps may be intermittent during light brake applications.They are still evaluating the remedial program and will furnish this information to odi when it is available. This safety recallresolves the issue raised by this investigation. Hence, this investigation is closed.

  Odi is closing this investigation based on daimler truck north america s (dtna) march 19, 2008, defect notification report which outlines dtnas intention to campaign 28,764 freightliner, sterling, and freightliner custom chassis vehicles [equipped with either arvinmeritor or axle alliance company 6,000 - 8,000 pound rated front axle assemblies utilizing a four piece spindle nut set] manufactured between january 26, 2000, and march 24, 2008.Dtna has proposed providing a remedy for the currently installed four piece spindle nut systems which may lead to incorrect end play, [bearing] cone spin, excessive heat, degradation of lubrication, wear of the spindle nut [backface] and bearing journal, oil contamination with metal shavings, and premature bearing failure.Continued operation may lead to a wheel separation.Odi has relieved dtna of the responsibility to provide the information requested as part of this rq so that dtna could focus their efforts on investigation of the wheel separation issues and planning and implementing a responsive and timely field action (campaign).

Vehicle occasionally rolls away after applying the park brake. I see a recall on the 2006 model for this but not the 2007. Looking for assistance in this.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 freight liner business class m2 truck. The contact stated that when driving various speeds, the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brakes were being depressed. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 690,000. *tr

I have a freightliner m2 business class hauler with 60000 miles in aug 2010 the left rear caliper locked up over heating and burning out the abs sensor, pads and rotor had to be turned. This work was done by the local freightliner dealer. On 12-31-10 the right rear caliper locked up and again burned out the abs sensor and over heated the brakes. I again took my truck to the freightliner dealer for repair. They contacted the freightliner co and was advised that the calipers were sticking and that they both should be replaced. The abs sensor was replaced, both calipers with new pads were replaced and the right rotor was replaced with a new one. Freightliner was unable to tell me anything regarding the sticking calipers. Total cost to me was just under $4000.00. *tr

I have a 2007 sportchassis (freightliner business class m2) with 8000 miles, while driving the right caliper locked up and caught fire, i waited for truck to cool down and drove home. Next time i took the truck out, abt a week later, the left caliper did the same thing. I checked the calipers are fine, the brake fluid is also ok. I have tried contacting freightliner sportchassis in oklahoma where the truck was manufactured 4/2006. I have been told several "fixes" by the local freightliner dealer here in miami fl but its very costly abt $5000 to fix. I don't believe this is the problem there has to be something defective for the calipers to lock up & catch fire under my truck, inturn damaging all the parts that now need to be replaced @ abt $5000. I don't drive the truck often, it's a "toy" that i own. Purchased brand new 1/2007 to date have 8000 miles. *tr
