  Daimler trucks north america llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2006-2020 freightliner columbia, 2006-2021 freightliner business class m2, 2007-2020 freightliner coronado, 2014-2021 freightliner 122 sd, 2007 sterling a 9500, 2006 freightliner argosy, 2006-2007 sterling at9500, 2008-2021 freightliner cascadia, 2006-2008 freightliner classic, 2006-2011 freightliner century class, 2006-2010 freightliner fld, and 2017 western star 5700 vehicles. The rear reflective tape may be partially covered by the mudflap hanger bracket, which may reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers on the road. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

  Daimler trucks (dtna) is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 freightliner, sterling, and western star vehicles, equipped with detroit diesel epa07 and epa10, dd13 and dd15/16 engines, manufactured from january 20, 2006, through february 20, 2012. The pump to rail high pressure fuel line support system used on these engines is sensitive to assembly torque and may be damaged during service work. As a result of other repairs, the line supports may loosen, potentially leading to fuel line cracking and a fuel leak.

  Issue: on certain trucks equipped with "fleet engineer" mud flaps, the bracket for the mud flaps may partially cover the rear reflective tape. Canadian regulations require that reflective tape must be visible on the rear of the truck. Safety risk: reflective tape that is covered may make the truck less visible to others and could create an increased risk of a crash. Corrective actions: daimler trucks of north america (dtna) will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to an authorized dtna service facility to inspect the reflective tape.   On certain vehicles equipped with kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage.   On certain trucks equipped with a detroit diesel dd13, dd15 or dd16 engine, the support system for the high pressure fuel line (between the fuel pump and the fuel delivery rail) may be damaged during a service repair procedure. Incorrect torque applied to the dampener "p" clip fasteners may damage the fasteners, which could allow the clips to loosen. This could result in a cracked fuel line and a diesel fuel leak. Diesel fuel leakage may ignite on a hot engine surface and cause a fire. As well, diesel fuel spilt on the roadway could endanger other road users by making the roadway unexpectedly slippery. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the high pressure fuel line and install a more robust fuel line support system.

  The emergency vehicle applications that are subject of this recall are designed with a dash-mounted switch that enables the vehicle operator to inhibit the aftertreatment diesel particulate filter regeneration in environments where the operator believes it may be unsafe for elevated exhaust temperatures. Due to an issue with the logic in the electronic control module (ecm) software in certain vehicles, the switch may not function correctly, leading the operator to believe that the switch is in "inhibit" mode when, in fact, it is not. As a consequence, the operator may unknowingly permit hot exhaust gases to exit the vehicle tailpipe, increase the risk of melting or burning of nearby surfaces, or a fire, causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: cummins dealers will upgrade the ecm software.

• Air brake reservoir bracket fracture investigation # PE12018

  The office of defects investigation (odi) received early warning reporting (ewr) data from the manufacturer that indicated some number of subject vehicles had allegedly experienced a fracture of one or more support brackets resulting in an unsecured air brake reservoir.This could result in a loss of air pressure necessary for proper service brake application and a potential road hazard if the reservoir separates from the vehicle in operation.By letter dated august 15, 2012, daimler trucks north america llc (dtna) has notified odi that it has initiated a safety recall (identified by nthsa recall no. 12v-405 and dtna recall no. Fl-631) to address a safety defect in approximately 1,663 model year (my) 2009 through 2012 freightliner 114sd, business class m2, cascadia, coronado, sterling 9500 and western star 4700 trucks manufactured from july 7, 2008 through december 15, 2011, originally equipped with a specific perpendicular oriented air brake reservoir support bracket (p/n 12-22981-000).To date odi is unaware of any bracket failures that resulted in a complete separation of the reservoir from the vehicle.Affected owners will be notified by dtna beginning october 15, 2012 and affected vehicles will have the subject air brake reservoir support brackets replaced with a more robust bracket.Repairs will be performed by dtna authorized service facilities.Copies of dtnas reimbursement plan for pre-notification remedies will be submitted to odi as a supplemental report when available.Accordingly, this investigation is closed.

We have had issues with the fuel filter housings starting to seep fuel through the housing assemblies in the mbe engines. We have had two other units with the same issue that we had to have repaired and we have one other vehicle in the shop currently with the same issue. These units will start to leak fuel and will drain the filter housing overnight leaking fuel on the engine and the ground, and under the right circumstances may become a possible fire hazard..We thought it might be an isolated incident but after four incidents and the part being backordered we think this may be a bigger problem. *tr

The support bracket for the right rear brake, air chamber and cross shaft broke off the rear axle housing which caused the cross shaft and chamber bracket to break. This allowed the right rear brake chamber to rotate upward which caused it to wedge under the frame rail. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the support bracket welded on the left rear side of the axle housing was also broken and was not supporting the left rear brake chamber and cross shaft assembly. In the condition it was discovered the right rear brake was not functional. *tr
