• Recall 208943 [USA]: Unapproved tires that are not rated for the vehicle can cause tire performance issues, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Daimler trucks north america, llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2012-2021 freightliner sd 108, freightliner sd 114, 2016-2020 freightliner coronado, 2013 western star 6900, 2013-2022 western star 4700, western star 4900, and 2022 49x vehicles. The tires and rims are not approved and rated for these vehicles from the tire and rim association or tire manufacturer. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard number 120, "wheels and rims-other than passenger cars."
  dealer will inspect and replace, as necessary, tires and rims, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed january 14, 2022. • Recall 137987 [USA]: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
  Daimler trucks north america llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2002-2017 freightliner cascadia, century class, columbia and coronado trucks and western star 4700, 4900, 5700, 5900 and 6900 trucks. These vehicles are equipped with kidde plastic-handle or push button 'pindicator' fire extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. • Recall 93037 [USA]: A fuel leak could create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. also a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
  Daimler trucks (dtna) is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 freightliner, sterling, and western star vehicles, equipped with detroit diesel epa07 and epa10, dd13 and dd15/16 engines, manufactured from january 20, 2006, through february 20, 2012. The pump to rail high pressure fuel line support system used on these engines is sensitive to assembly torque and may be damaged during service work. As a result of other repairs, the line supports may loosen, potentially leading to fuel line cracking and a fuel leak.
  dtna will notify owners, and where necessary, the high pressure fuel line support system will be replaced by dtna authorized service facilities, free of charge. The safety recall began on april 27, 2012. Owners may contact dtna at 1-800-547-0712.

  Issue: on certain trucks, a leak around the windshield could allow water to collect in the connector for the recirculation door actuator for the heating and air condition system. This could lead to damage of the wiring and other parts. As a result, the air conditioning and heating systems may not work properly. There could also be a chance of a short circuit. Safety risk: a short circuit could create the risk of fire. Corrective actions: daimler trucks north america (dtna) will notify owners by mail and provide information on how to inspect for water leaks around the windshield. This is particularly important if the windshield has been replaced. Any repairs necessary to fix a leak or replace parts will be at the owner's expense.

  Issue: certain trucks were built with air reservoir tanks that are too small in relation to the size of the air brake chambers. Canadian regulations require enough air reservoir capacity to ensure the brakes work even with heavy use or when there is a partial loss of the air system. Safety risk: reduced braking could cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.   On certain vehicles equipped with kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by kidde directly.   On certain trucks, the seat belts may not comply with canada motor vehicle safety standard 209 - seat belt assemblies. Due to a defect in manufacturing, the seat belt buckle may not release as required by the standard. This could hinder egress from the vehicle in an emergency, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace affected seatbelt buckles.

• Recall 2012080 [Canada]: Fuel supply
  On certain trucks equipped with a detroit diesel dd13, dd15 or dd16 engine, the support system for the high pressure fuel line (between the fuel pump and the fuel delivery rail) may be damaged during a service repair procedure. Incorrect torque applied to the dampener "p" clip fasteners may damage the fasteners, which could allow the clips to loosen. This could result in a cracked fuel line and a diesel fuel leak. Diesel fuel leakage may ignite on a hot engine surface and cause a fire. As well, diesel fuel spilt on the roadway could endanger other road users by making the roadway unexpectedly slippery. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the high pressure fuel line and install a more robust fuel line support system.

  Examination of safety recall filings for recalls 17v-761, 17v-810, 18v-157, and 18v-163 as submittedby daimler trucks north america (dtna) has raised concerns about the timeliness and scope of these recalls. In particular, odi is concerned that dtna may not have acted with appropriate speed in making a defect determination and filing with the agency.
