P0765

Shift Solenoid D Malfunction

DTC P0765, sometimes indicated as P076500 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the onboard computer system or ancillary outputs causing shift solenoid d malfunction.

The DTC P0765 is an indication that there is a problem with the shift solenoid D. The most common causes of this problem are a malfunctioning shift solenoid D, a wiring problem, or a problem with the transmission control module (TCM).
If the shift solenoid D is malfunctioning, it may be necessary to replace it. If the wiring is damaged or the TCM is defective, those parts may need to be replaced as well.

Consumer Complaints for this DTC

2010 KIA SOUL with 94000.0 miles

This and other models of Kia/hyundai have a very common issue with auto trans a4cf1/2 electrica harness that fails prematurely and frequently, including temp sensor intergrated into it. Car now has 94k and code P0713 for the temp sensor failure and recently P0765 for selonoid d, which is all related to wire harness inside trans. Temp sensor fails, and solder connections become loose and irretic shifting, check engine lights and all sorts of trans problems start. I wouldn't be surprised upon owners taking cars to dealer or trans shop, they are told their transmissions are no good.

2007 KIA SPECTRA with 124678. miles

I was driving on the interstate about 65 mph. All of sudden, the car lost all forward motion power. When i pressed the gas, the rpms increased, but the car did not get any power. The engine continued to run without problem. After stopping on the shoulder, i put the car in park and turned off the engine. After starting again, i put the car in drive, the forward power was working again and the car shifted fine. Transmission fluid was changed at 110,000 miles. Suspecting transmission, i took to a transmission specialist. I was given the following information: error code P0750 shift solenoid; error code P0755 shift solenoid b; error code P0760 shift solenoid c; error code P0765 shift solenoid d. Was given price quote to fix, but encouraged to contact Kia dealership about problem as they had seen this before on other similar Kia Spectras. Called dealership to inform them of problem. Left message, but never got a return call; and the one time i got a person, i was told that they would have someone from service call me back. Never heard from anyone. On may 16, 2015, the same thing happened, only this time turning the car off did not work and the check engine light came on. I was able to disconnect the battery and reconnect, then the car shifted again. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a recall? Before i spend $2000, i want to know if Kia is avoiding my calls because they know there is problem? Did internet search and have found similar complaints.

2006 KIA SPECTRA with 100.0 miles

Problem is the check engine light came on/off and on again. Fault codes were P0700 and P0748 as done at autozone. Some type of fault with the transaxle (P0700) or failed transaxle control module/failed linear solenoid valve/open or short cicuit condition in the linear solenoid control. While driving the car shutters hard car shifts fine when engine is cold. When engine warms up (after driving about 10 miles) while cruising in 4th gear, a lurch is felt from the drive train and the trans down shifts to 3rd gear. Shifting to neutral and back to drive doesn't help. The trans stays in 3rd gear. Shutting the car off and let it cool down and it is back to working normal again. Thinking about replacing the shift control module. Fix link.... 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA with 102000. miles

While driving the vehicle at 50 mph, it suddenly slams into third gear causing a violent jerking and sudden deceleration. The engine light comes on and the car remains in 3rd gear for a period of time and then returns to normal. This occurred two days in a row. The second time i was almost rear ended when my vehicle slammed into third gear. It was determined that the transmission wiring harness and overdrive solenoid were defective. Error code was P0765.

Vehicle will not shift into 3rd gear. This started while driving the vehicle in town and now only runs in 1st and 2nd gear. Diagnostic code P0765 (shift solenoid d) is the only code showing. Other (03-05) Jeeps were recalled for the same problem.
