P0745

Pressure Control Solenoid A Malfunction

DTC P0745, sometimes indicated as P074500 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the causing pressure control solenoid a malfunction.

The P0745 code means that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a malfunction in the pressure control solenoid A. This solenoid controls the pressure in the torque converter lock-up clutch.
Possible causes of this code include a faulty pressure control solenoid, a clogged or dirty filter, or a low transmission fluid level.
If this code is stored, the PCM will disable the torque converter lock-up clutch, which will result in a loss of fuel economy and increased emissions.
The best way to fix this code is to find and fix the underlying cause. If the pressure control solenoid is faulty, it should be replaced. If the filter is clogged or dirty, it should be cleaned or replaced. If the transmission fluid level is low, it should be topped off.

2006 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC with 74000.0 miles

Transmission pressure control failure. Automatic transmission has difficulty switching from 2nd gear to 3rd gear and this causes the motor to accelerate to high rpm in the process. A large jolt can be felt when this occurs as well. Troubleshooting code P0745 is present.

2002 FORD EXPLORER with 100000. miles

March 17th, 2010: wife calls me at work and says she was bringing my daughter home from school and the Explorer 2002 transmission started slipping and the check engine light came on and the o/d light was flashing. She was able to drive it home until i could look at it. I drove it later that evening and determined that it was slipping between 2nd and 3rd hear and the check engine light is on. On march 19th...I drove to autoparts store and had them read code from computer: P0745. I did alot of research and it appears that the intermediate band may have broken and transmission needs repaired/replaced ($1500-$3000???) i will be contacting Ford on monday march 22nd, 2010 to take it into shop and have them determine what they think is wrong. Seems to be a very common issue... It is a safety issue due to the fact that the car transmission slips during acceleration and starts to slow possibly causing someone to hit vehicle from behind. Sometimes it kicks it in abruptly...Jerking during the gear switching...Dangerous!!!

2002 FORD EXPLORER with 51000.0 miles

I own a 2002 Ford Explorer 4x4 and while driving the vehicle the o/d light begin to flash and at a stop light the vehicle would not engaged to drive. Finally after turning of the vehicle and re starting it and proceeded to go. Took it into the dealership where they informed me that they would have to drop the pan and if there was metal in it i would need a whole new transmission. They called me a few hours later to inform me that the technician saw lots of metal and the cost of a new transmission would be 3400.00 dollars. I said are you sure that the problem has been diagnosed properly with a transmission with 50,000 miles and he said the tests don't lie. Well, i said i would be up to the dealership to see this metal and 2 minutes later he called saying that the tech. Didn't actually pull the pan down. Pick up my Explorer and they were so very nice to give me the technical service bulletin on it too; think that was a mistake. Took it to cottmans transmission right down from the dealership and they hooked it up to a computer and codes P0733 and P0745 were flashing: problem a broken intermediate band and o/d band. They said that could have more damage but would see when transmission was down. They weren't surprised by the dealerships claim; it is all about money to them. After 2 days they informed me that the 2 bands would have to be replaced, a torque converter, transmission rebuild kit and a little thing called a planet gear was causing the whole problem it seems. The bearing in the gear was destroyed. They ordered the planet gear from the kentucky plant and low and behold that bearing in the gear was destroyed as well. I believe that the transmission problems that people are experiencing is coming from the defect. The cost of this little repair was 1500.00 dollars more than half of what they said and they have the same tsb report on the problem.Crown Ford is the dealer.

2002 FORD EXPLORER with 104000. miles

All of a sudden the transmission would not shift gears and the overdrive light started flashing. When taken to a mechanic, the diagnostic test threw a code of P0733 and P0745. We were told that a band broke in the transmission and 3rd gear went out. The fix was to overhaul the transmission for $2700. Upon doing some research, it appears that this is a common problem with 2002 Ford Explorers and Ford should do a recall. *nm
