  • Recall 2018523 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator.

I called customer relations and they will forward loaner car request to case manager to possibly supply a loaner car. My complaint to your agency is that i have not had full use of my car for over 2 months now, and there is no expected date in sight. I have elderly parents that i drive them and two toddler children i drive to school. I bought a 4-door sedan to drive my family and am being denied that. Please put more pressure, demands, fines to acura to solve the problem. Thank you!!! *tr

Takata recall - i recieved notification on july 17th, 2016 about a recall for my 2010 acura tsx. I immediately called the dealer for an appointment, i was put on a waiting list for parts and was told it would take 90-120 days for parts. I then requested a different vehicle to drive which was denied. I carpool in my car every day, yet the acura recall notice instructs me not to use the passenger seat. This is not practical and parts should be made available sooner or a different car provided.

Brakes failed on three consecutive days during cold spell (teens with wind chill -10 to 10f) the first time i had pulled out of a parking space at the supermarket and was heading towards the exit. I noticed that the car was not slowing as i approached the street although i was exerting considerable force on the brake. I managed to stop the car and pull to the side of the street. I checked for any physical obstructions and did not find any. The brake pedal would not travel. After a few minutes the brakes resumed normal operation and i was able to carefully drive home. The next morning, i pumped the brakes with the car off until the pedal would not move. I then turned on the ignition and noticed the brake would not go down again. I had to wait a few minutes until it functioned again. Third instance, i started the car and pumped the brakes several times. The first couple times it worked but then it froze again. After some more time, the brakes engaged and i took the car to an auto repair shop. This is a very dangerous situation and i feel fortunate that i did not run anyone down in the crowded supermarket parking lot and the street was clear when i couldn't slow the car and rolled into it.

We bought the acura named above at jmk fiat in springfield, nj. It has 4 michelin 225/50r17 tires on it. It has only been three weeks and one of the tires was dry rotted and went flat. My mechanic said all four have to be replaced. My wife and son were about to travel to new york right before this occurred. I know their was a recall on these tires but i bought this car used and the dealership refuses to do anything. Can i do anything here?

This is the second time this has occurred. The first time was about 3 weeks ago and since it had never occurred before, i believed it to be an anomaly. Second time...No longer an anomaly, this car has a breaking problem that is being ignored by acura. On two occasions now my breaks have failed within the first few minutes of vehicle operation causing me to have to use my emergency break in order to avoid being t-boned by oncoming traffic. When i was approaching the stop sign i attempted to break only to find the break pedal solid and stiff and would not move no matter how hard i pushed. I had no breaks whatsoever. Within a short time after, the breaks started working. Conditions on both occurrences were temperatures below 10 degrees with a negative wind chill and i had not warmed my car up prior to driving it. The second time i was dangerously close to getting t-boned by oncoming traffic on the drivers side. The only reason i was not hit was simply because i had the presence of mind to pull the emergency break. This time i immediately parked the car and called for a tow truck. The vehicle is sitting at a honda repair shop as there are no acura dealers close. I contacted acura and was told there were no service bulletins on this and that the car is out of warranty however a local advocate for my region would call me back on monday. Today is friday. Someone needs to investigate this as when i search the forums tsxclub.Com (breaks fail when cold), there are multiple owners experiencing this issue. There are also cases on this site as well. Acura needs to acknowledge this issue and issue a recall on these vehicles. I cannot imagine what would have happened if this would have happened when my teen driver was behind the wheel. *tr

The car door locks, or door lock actuators, have failed multiple times ( each door at least twice) in five years. The car is now eight years old and all the actuators have failed again. The safety issue arises when the door should automatically lock after reaching 10mph, but they do not due to actuators failing to lock door. This could cause the doors to open if involved in crash. I am concerned with this safety issue as it could also allow unwanted people from entering my vehicle at any given time. Another issue is it is possible to be locked out of the vehicle if all of the actuators fail at the same time, as it requires manual activation of locks from the inside of the vehicle. The failures have been documented while the car was under warranty with acura. I know of other tsx owners having the same issue. I have asked to have this issue repaired from acura and they have declined the repair, stating the vehicle is no longer under warranty, even though their service representatives have acknowledged the actuators are an issue.

Brake pedal is freezing. Why is this not a recall!? It was a cold morning (3 degrees f). I warmed up the car, left my road and, as i approached the light at the main road, i went to apply the brakes and the brake pedal was like a rock. It wouldn't move. I'd already applied the brakes several times before getting to that point. I looked down at the pedal to see if anything was in the way. With little time to react and the gear shift reading like war and peace in that moment, i threw the car into park to try to reduce the impact as i hit 2 of the cars at the light. I immediately called 911. While on the phone with them, i heard a hissing sound and the brake pedal finally gave way. I phoned the dealer and was told the same thing happened to two other people that day--just from that one dealership. I got nowhere with them because i was out of warranty. I called acura corporate and they could not have cared less. They asked what i wanted and i said, "i want you to care about why your brake pedal is freezing." with my car still at the body shop, i phoned the dealer again. They said they think it's a faulty check valve and vacuum line that lets condensation freeze in the line. And guess what? Those parts happened to be on a national back order...But there's no recall!??? I went to the dealership and met with the general manager, who agreed to provide me with a loaner until the parts came in after the body shop was done with my car. The plan was to drive the car slowly from the body shop to the dealer. But then the body shop called to tell me the brake pedal froze on them as they went to pull it into the garage to work on it (again, it was a cold morning). They didn't feel comfortable letting me drive it so called the dealer on my behalf who agreed to pick it up and tow it to the dealership. It hasn't happened since the repair but it hasn't been that cold. *tr

Acura tsx 2010 rear brakes are prematurely wearing. During last visit to the dealer (around 27,000 miles) i was told that my rear break pads have only 3mm of ceramic left. I was very surprised by this news, but did not get them replaced at that time. Now i went ahead and replaced rear break pads myself and was very shocked to see that the pads that are in contact with calipers are almost gone while pads that are on the outer side of the wheel still have more than 50% of life left in them. I will save the break pads so let me know if you want to see them. *tr

I was very surprised to hear that my rear brakes needed replacement after only 24,800 miles. I had only taken my car in for the normal oil changing and tire rotation. My normal daily commute is to and from work totaling 50 miles, with the occasional short stop at a grocery store. When my husband questioned acura if there were any complaints or recalls about the premature wearing of 2010 tsx brakes, they stated they hadn't heard anything. (i had previously owned a honda accord and i had similar problems with the brakes on that car as well.) so my husband and i decided to look the information up online and there seems to have been a class action lawsuit filed indicating that certain honda and acura year models had complaints of premature wear on brakes. Apparently in the settlement you can submit your information and receipt to the settlement administrator and receive up to $150 back for the replacement of the new brakes. When i called the settlement administrator to verify that my car was included in this reimbursement settlement, i was informed, to my disappointment, that my car did not qualify. It seems that several people have had similar problems with premature brake wear and yet they only marked certain cars for replacement? Evidently this is an ongoing problem with these certain year models and acura should stand behind their product and replace the brakes without the customer having to go through the surprise and cost of replacing their brakes prematurely. Apparently the only way a recall will be made or anyone will take this problem seriously is if someone is badly injured or even killed when their brakes do not respond or respond improperly. If acura/honda does not address this issue, with the safety of its customers in mind, my husband and i will have to seriously contemplate doing business with a different company altogether. *tr

I took my 2010 acura tsx in for periodic maintenance (a-1). I was advised by the service representative that my rear brakes were worn down to 3 milliters and would need replacement soon. I asked if there was a recall or class action suit on these brakes and was told that there was for hondas and acura tsx's up to 2009. Apparently the actions taken by honda/acura are insufficient. Acura wants over $300 to replace the pads and surface the rotors. Apparently honda is offering discounts of $150 for the service under the terms of the class action suit, which doesn't cover my particular acura. However resurfacing the rotors cannot be done every 20,000 miles without needing early replacement of the rotors. Who pays for that? I was going to wait to take the car in for service. I wonder how serious this would have been if the rear brakes had failed during the ensuing period? *tr

On the afternoon of june 19th i arrived at my destination, put the vehicle in park and was sitting in my car with the engine running when the dash indicator read "check airbag system". I continued to gather my things, when suddenly the airbags deployed, hitting my left arm and momentarily deafening my hearing. The car had not been impacted or jarred in any way that may have caused the airbags to deploy. The next morning i drove the car to acura and they initially said they would repair it. A week or so later they claimed the computer indicated the car had been in a collision yet there was no visible damage. Clearly the vehicle had a defective sensor yet they refused to take responsibility. They wanted me to file a claim with my insurance company for repairs. I was asked to return the loaner they had issued me and take possession of my car. They were willing to send me off in an unsafe car with the deployed airbags hanging! I reluctantly opened a claim with my insurance company which was subsequently denied because there was no collision. My insurance company suggested i sue american honda. A couple of days later american honda made a "goodwill gesture" by agreeing to repair my vehicle. They still refuse to acknowledge that the vehicle may have had a defective sensor. Over a month later i will finally be getting my car back yet i'm a bit nervous at the thought that it may happen again and possibly while i'm driving. I register this complaint for any future incidences. *tr

This tsx has had three different door lock actuators go out. Passenger door at 30k mikes, driver door at 45k miles and rear passenger door at 75k miles. While the first two were under warranty the last one isn't and costs $460 for the acura dealer to fix the problem. Seems this should be a recall item as the car is in otherwise perfect condition. My 2010 acura tsx has less than 23,000 miles, and it has not been involved in any accidents. Recently i noticed a loud rattling and screeching noise in the back rear of the car. The noise continued to get more frequent and louder. I took it in to get serviced today (august 5, 2011) at the acura dealership, and their representative told me that it was "normal wear and tear" of the rear brakes and advised rear brake replacement. I asked when rear brakes generally need to be replaced, and she replied that it is usually every 20,000-30,000 miles. She also noted that the rear brakes were found on "squealers." i disagree with the "normal wear and tear" assessment; it is a safety defect. My family has owned 2 acuras as well as a nissan, toyota, saturn, and ford, and we have never had to replace brake pads at this low mileage when it was not a manufacturer's defect. When i got home, i looked up this issue online and found that there was a class action lawsuit on this specific defect. I did get the rear brakes replaced because i was very concerned about my safety as well as the safety of others while driving a car with defective brakes. Based on the fact that there was a class action lawsuit, this manufacturer's defect affects many vehicles, and honda refuses to take action to correct their defective brakes. Nhtsa should investigate and require honda to recall and repair this defect. Thank you for addressing this safety issue. *tr

It was approximately 8:00 am, conditions were clear and the temperature was 51 degrees. I was at a full stop at a traffic light with the car in drive and my foot on the brake. The car was idling normally while waiting at the light and then suddenly i heard the engine noise change, rpms increased and i could feel the car pull against the brakes. I put the car in neutral and the tach shot up to 4,500 rpms. I put the car in park and shut it off. After the car was shut off, i restarted it and the rpms returned to a normal idle. I shifted into drive when the light turned green. It was hard to get the shifter out of park but it did go into drive. This incident occurred at the light in front of an elementary school. About a half dozen children were crossing in front of my car when the engine went out of control. It was very scary. I immediately contacted the closest acura dealer to report the incident and took the car to that dealer. The dealer was unable to diagnose the problem so they called in the regional acura representative. He conducted a 4 hour examination of the car but was unable to reproduce the problem and could not offer a solution for fixing the car. I requested a copy of the test report so that i could see what was tested and the results of those tests. Acura refused stating the information was proprietary. I've had numerous discussions with acura corporate, the servicing dealer and the dealer where i purchased the car. The two dealers acknowledge the seriousness of the issue and state that they believe acura needs to do something to solve this serious safety issue. In slippery conditions, such as rain, if you need to accelerate, the traction control cuts power practically completely, so if you are at a stop sign, and try to cross a busy intersection, if you can get the traction control to not engage you can move pretty quickly across the intersection, if it's engage, and it activates it's as though you took your foot completely off the accelerator, i've had a loaner car of the same make and model as mine, but it was an automatic, the manual transmission doesn't seem to work the same with the traction control as the automatic does. The automatic you can feel the car practically claw at the road to move faster, while the manual, power is just completely cut, it's quite dangerous.

I have a 2010 acura tsx with 28,000 miles that needs rear brakes replaced. Front brakes are fine but rear brakes are worn down to the metal. Acura won't stand behind the warranty saying this is normal wear. They tell me i am one of the lucky one because most are replacing at 12,000 miles. Your front brakes should wear out before your rear brakes and my front brakes are in great shape. As i have researched online there are numerous complaints. I will have to replace the rear brakes in order to pass inspection on a 10 month old car. Acura wants to charge me $390.00 to do this. The service manager admitted that acura has a problem but they are not aloud to replace any rear brakes under warranty.
