  • Recall 105464 [USA]: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
    Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 ford edge and lincoln mkx vehicles manufactured september 2, 2010, to november 30, 2013; 2013-2014 ford taurus and lincoln mks vehicles manufactured august 25, 2011, to november 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 ford flex and lincoln mkt vehicles manufactured september 12, 2011, to november 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.
    ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on august 4, 2014.   • Recall 101041 [USA]: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
    Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 edge vehicles manufactured from september 2, 2010, through april 25, 2013, and equipped with 2.0l engines. The fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack as a result of an improper manufacturing process. A cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may result in a combination of fuel odor, weepage, or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized.
    ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line with one that does not have a damper, free of charge. The safety recall began on february 25, 2014. Owners may contact ford at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 13s13. Important: this recall supersedes recall 12v-438. All vehicles that have been remedied under the previous recall need to have the current remedy applied.

  • Recall 2014280 [Canada]: Powertrain
    On certain vehicles, the right-side halfshaft retention clip may not have been fully engaged, and could allow the halfshaft to separate. If this were to occur while the vehicle is being driven, it could result in a loss of motive power. If this were to occur while the vehicle is parked on an incline without the parking brake applied, it could result in unintended vehicle movement. Both situations could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will inspect halfshafts for full retention and affect repairs as necessary.

  • Recall 2014001 [Canada]: Fuel supply
    On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0l engine, the fuel line pulse damper may have been manufactured incorrectly and could develop cracks. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the fuel line assembly. Note: this recall supersedes recall 2012-299 (12s40). Vehicles that were repaired under the previous campaign will also need to be repaired under this campaign.

  • Door ajar warning light always on investigation as of 20160928

    The office of defects investigation (odi) opened this investigation on september 28, 2016 based on allegations that the "door ajar" light located on the instrument cluster stays on all of the time even when all doors are closed and fully latched on 2011-2013 model year ford edge vehicles.When the light is illuminated continuously, vehicle occupants cannot be certain if any of the doors are properly latched.Reported safety consequences as a result of this issue include doors opening while driving (because doors were initially not latched properly), doors cannot be locked while driving, and the interior dome lights staying on continuously. Ford data received from the information request letter corresponding to this investigation indicates the failures were caused by contamination of the electrical contacts on the switch located within each door latch that tells the vehicle if the door is open or closed.All four doors contain the same latch design and switch.According to ford, the body control module (bcm) monitors the position of the switch and continuously samples it to detect a state of change.After a closed door state is detected, a continuous wetting current designed to keep the electrical contacts clean is sent from the bcm to the switches as long as the bcm is active.Beginning with the 2011 model year edge vehicles, a change in bcm strategy resulted in a reduction of the wetting current sent out to clean the switch contacts by more than 75%.Over time, this low level of current is not sufficient to keep the switch contacts clean and contamination build up causes them to fail as described above.During the course of this investigation, odi has identified a total of 1,983 complaints related to the door ajar light.Of these complaints, 14 indicated that a door opened while driving.Twelve of the 14 door opening events were situations where an occupant of the vehicle (often a child) opened a passenger door because the doors were not locked.The remaining two complaints involved a door opening on its own because the driver was unaware that the door was unlatched.There were no accidents but one complainant reported that a shoulder injury was caused by the driver having to repeatedly slam the door in an effort to get the door ajar light to turn off.After reviewing all available data, an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety has not been identified.The door latches themselves continue to function properly, remaining securely latched until acted upon by a driver or passenger.Child safety locks on the rear doors continue to function properly and can be used to prevent the rear doors from opening via the inside door handles.Vehicle crashworthiness is not affected by the lock condition of the doors and all active safety systems continue to function normally even if the vehicle bcm believes one or more doors is open.In addition, no accidents or accident related injuries have been reported.A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, the investigation is closed.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.The agency will monitor the issue and reserves the right to take future action if warranted by the circumstances.Odi numbers for the reports cited above are shown in the attached document.

It is believed by driver that booster hose has failed. This became apparent when driving through new orleans on i-10 westbound. When i came off interstate exit to a street near where i was going, i had to almost stand on brake pedal to stop and keep from rearending car in front of me. I checked my brake fluid and it was full with no leaks. There are no leaks on inside under brake pedal. This vehicle is a 2013 ford edge sel awd assembled ay oakville, ontario, canada. There was no dash lights that came on to indicate that there is a malfunction. My vehicle may also have an electrical light problem to which i am not aware of.

Hissing sound when the brake pedal was depressed and then the stiffness in the pedal itself. There was little to extremely little braking power and was very difficult to slow and stop the vehicle. Took the car to a local repair shop and determined that it was a faulty brake booster. They felt that it should be taken to the dealer, which i did. I did find out that this is a very common problem with the same make and model fords. A customer satisfaction program 13n02 was launched but not for my vin. This is a very dangerous situation feel that more investigation should be done on this particular product.

This is not an unknown problem to nhtsa or ford for covered vehicles. Brake booster failed, causing serious problems with the ability to stop the vehicle. For other 2013 ford edge and mercury mkx vehicles, this repair is covered (nhtsa 10054925), while some of these vehicles are not covered for some reason, including this vin. The brake booster failure on this vehicle presents no less of a safety issue than that of the covered vehicles, which received a ford 10 year extended warranty on the brake booster. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms.

The purpose of this letter is to request a recall on 2013 ford edge. The customer satisfaction program 13n02 released in january of 2014 identifies that “it is possible for the brake booster on your vehicle to develop a small tear in the diaphragm.” this is what has occurred in my vehicle under 100,000 miles. The recall/program covers vehicles made prior to march 28, 2013 and my vehicle was made in approximately june. As a result my request for relief has to this point been denied. I am very disappointed as it is an identical issue to the recall but because my car is approximately 90 days younger than others identified, i am out $940.30 dollars for the repair. The repair is completed now. The vehicle was not stopping responsively and put myself and others at risk. My auto mechanic confirmed the issue and identified it as the same described in the recall noted above. There were no warning lamps or other symptoms to make us aware of the issue. Ford denies to cover my repair as it is a vehicle made shortly after the bulletin identifies.

This is a vigilant preventative report. There aren't any warning lamps, failures or messages yet and i sure am glad. But the symptoms were noticed on may 21, 2021 after i returned home from getting my emissions done. I noticed both front tires were streaming wet with liquid and at first i thought i had run over something. Then today may 30, i needed to run to the grocery store but before i left i had my son look underneath the hood because i thought maybe a fluid or freon may have caused the scene but soon found out that there is no way for any fluids to penetrate to the tires because there is a solid panel separating the mechanisms underneath the hood from the wheels and tire. That made me take a closer look at the inside of the wheel covers/caps and low and behold you can see because of the dark color of the fluid in the wells of the wheels; brake fluid has been spewing now, both times as far as i can tell. I don't know how long it takes for the fluid reservoir to become empty, but i sure wouldn't want to be driving my vehicle when that happens. So this is in my opinion a "life or death" safety hazard and would really be appreciative for an immediate response! I need your suggestion as soon as you're able to, what should be my next step. I am a senior citizen and i purchased this 2013 vehicle as my future retirement vehicle in 2014 and retired in 2017. I believed it would be a nice, sturdy well-built and reliable vehicle for years to come. I've owned many a vehicle and have never had any major brake issues during all those years, just regular maintenance on brakes and other expected low maintenance. Never anything of this magnitude to put my life in danger. Wow! An 8 year old vehicle with just under 73,000 miles on the odometer driven less that 50 miles per month, i wouldn't have ever thought this could happen. Hopefully, there is a safety recall for this model as well. Still researching....

Backup camera started having issues (screen image upside down, screen flashing) 3 years ago. Dealer stated this is common complaint and since the car was not under warranty the estimated repair could be upwards to $2,000. I asked if the issue was common and pointed out there was a recall on new ford cars and trucks due to backup camera issues, and why this issue shouldn't be covered as it is has the same problem that the recall on newer vehicle has? There was no response other than asking if i wanted the camera fixed, or not.

I have experienced several occasions where i have either had to 1) press the brakes very hard to the floor to stop, sometimes still rolling or 2) occasionally felt very stiff brakes that will not stop the car when pressing on the brake. The car would continue to roll. I had to pull to the side so i would not impact the car in front of me. This has happened several times on highway 23. There was a recall for a brake booster issue, but ford claims my car was made the month after the recall ended. This issue has been happening for years, and getting worse recently. We had to schedule the repair because the car was unsafe to drive. The brakes were in good condition otherwise - no other issues.

My wife told me about this occasional beginning about 1.5 years ago but i was unable to duplicate it. This past wednesday february 17, 2021, while i was driving the car at various speeds, it failed completely. In 2014 ford issued csp 13n02 to correct this problem on 2010-2013 ford edge vehicles. This was not a recall, but it should be. My wife never received notification from ford or the selling dealership about this. We made an appointment for today, february 21, 2021, at the selling dealership. When we dropped it off i informed them of the problem, as well as csp 13n02. Since her vehicle had just over the 150,000 mile limit for the csp they refused to perform the work under the terms of that csp. That csp has a parts cost of $200 and allows 2 hours labor. They have quoted her $700+. The car has been left there for repair since we have no other choice. There should be a recall initiated for this dangerous situation.

I had to call the local police department to have them come park behind the car because multiple people almost hit me while stranded in the middle of the road. Oil pressure light came on for a single split second then went off. Right after the transmission gave out and engine shut off as a way to protect the motor. I was almost hit by several people. I started the car again and it idled fine. As soon as i shifted into drive it shut off again. This could have gotten me and my gf seriously injured. Rear cross traffic warning signals go off when nothing is around. It happens all the time and is super annoying.

The manufacturer was made aware and opened a case regarding the matter. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

It illuminates the interior lights causing distractions and safety issues for me trying to drive and other drivers around me, especially since i work 3rd shift and do a lot of nighttime driving. It has drained my battery numerous times due to it setting my alarm off intermittently because it all of the sudden thinks my door is open when i have it parked. I have read so many complaints of this issue. This should have been a recall by ford years ago as this is a safety hazard. Ford sent a letter out stating that they would do a one-time courtesy fix for people having this problem, however, they listed requirements for mileage and age of vehicle that you had to meet to have them fix it. So even though i have owned this car since 35,000 miles, they told me that i didn't qualify. Ford is not going to step up on their own and be responsible about this, they need it to be forced on them to do so.

I also saw that there is a "customer satisfaction" program 13no2 which provides an extended warranty for the brake booster on the edge/mkx 2010-2013. I contacted ford via twitter and apparently my car doesn't qualify. How the does it not qualify!? This is clearly a widespread common issue for this year/model and is an extreme safety hazard!!! Its my first and probably last ford ill purchase. How can a company be so dismissive of this problem on their family vehicle. Greed, that's why. This needs to be recalled or at the very minimum the "customer satisfaction" program needs to be expanded to all edge/mkx vehicles! Recently the problem has now started to cause my vehicle to stall out when idle at stop lights/signs (another symptom of a bad brake booster). This is very unsafe! They claim i cant take my suv to closest ford company to get it inspected for free. We spent hundreds of dollars on this same problem. They said keep your receipt. I did my research and the kelly blue book states reviews of the same issues, that i am having. I have children and is afraid to drive my vehicle at all times. This is a safety issue, not just for myself and the family but for other drivers on the road. Ford need to recall this issue and they don't want to acknowledge that this is a huge safety risk. I am still paying on the car currently with another year of financing to pay off the car. I am afraid that i will get into a accident and hurt myself, family and others on the road. I can not afford this problem anymore. Please help me get this resolved.

I did my research and the kelly blue book states reviews of the same issues, that i am having. I have children and is afraid to drive my vehicle at all times. This is a safety issue, not just for myself and the family but for other drivers on the road. Ford need to recall this issue and they don't want to acknowledge that this is a huge safety risk. I am still paying on the car currently with another year of financing to pay off the car. I am afraid that i will get into a accident and hurt myself, family and others on the road. I've taken it to ford for repairs 3 times and relaxed dead batteries and it's still not working right. I have to slam the door for 5 minutes to get the light to go off and the interior lights to go off. I have to toggle the shift gear for a while to get the shift to park wanting to go off and the electrical dashboard to turn off or battery will die again.

I was able to pull onto the shoulder and the car behind me was able to avoid a collision by slamming on their brakes. Additionally, the car consistently presents symptoms of rough idle, rough engine running at normal speeds, and a highly decreased fuel economy. After pulling the odbii codes and some research, this appears to be a known problem with the car's throttle body assembly. The odbii code is P2111.

Was able to take the trip back but with caution.I have practiced mechanics for 25 yrs of that 40.Now retired and to it to a local technician, had brakes checked,were in good shape but on the check of the abs system it indicated a possible stuck valve in the hcu unit which is costly.Taking it to fellow ford dealer whom i've known for 45 yrs. To varify. I know how the ford system works and it takes pressure from public to collect data and at some point issue a recall on this matter.

Eventually, the car began to make a grinding sound while steering and stopping until the transfer case blew up and destroyed the transmission. The transfer case and transmission were replaced, was told that this transfer case was an "issue" in these cars. After repair, the car began to make noises again, gear oil smells in the passenger cabin, and subsequently, the transfer case again blew up, filling the passenger cabin with smoke and disabling the vehicle on a major highway less than 100 miles after previous repair. Transfer case replaced again, was driven by the mechanic for 26 miles, and again blew up leaving the vehicle disabled. The true failure appears that the car is failing to switch from awd to fwd when it gets up to high speeds causing repeated failures to the entire system and disabling the car putting me and my family at risk each time. Ford is aware that this is an issue. The parts department has dozens of transfer cases and rear differentials available to continue replacing and they know that they are putting their customers at risk. My transfer cases failures happened on a city street (1st time) turning left, major highway @ 70mph going straight down a hill and coasting (2nd time), city street going straight (3rd time). This is a dangerous situation and needs to be resolved with on multiple awd vehicles that ford has made with this system.

After talking to the mechanic who fixed my vehicle, he told me this incident wasn't my fault, that the shift cable was broke and the car started rolling on its own right at his shop. It was not possible to put the car in the park position. My vehicle door and fender were destroyed upon leaving my garage because i opened the door to try and get back in the vehicle. I had to jump out of the way or i would have been crushed between the door and my house.

While braking, the brakes didn't not perform as expected. They were working fine, then it felt like i couldn't stop in time. I had to push the peddle all the way down to stop. The issue was possibility of break booster premature failure leading to unpredictable braking performance. There are 2 significant issues with this notice: 1. I own a 2013 ford edge truck with production date of 06/13. The mileage on this vehicle is under 58000. About a week ago the braking function of this car has failed significantly leading to a near crash situation. This happened when i was driving closer to a traffic stop at about 20 mph and started gradually applying brakes and to my surprise the car kept on moving without any noticeable braking applied. Realizing that, i pressed the pedal much harder to a degree that would be close to activating abs and only then the car came to a hard stop. After experiencing this i started researching online and have learned about ford's notice of extended warranty on brake booster part failure - 13n02. I had exactly the same symptoms as described in this bulletin. Upon visiting dealership, they refused to service my car under this extended warranty as my car was just outside the production dates covered by 13n02. There is a safety issue or concern prompting this program or ford would not have initiated the program and it would apply to all doors on the vehicle as evidenced by my problem with the rear door. I did contact the ford customer relationship center and was advised the program was limited to the conditions listed in the letter. I was driving my car without any problem. All of a sudden i go to put my car into reverse to back up my driveway and lost all power steering. We coasted to the side of the road and it took two attempts to start it again. The traction control light and traction control off light is still on. Sunroof spontaneously shattered. We were going 70 miles/ hour on the freeway when it exploded out of nowhere. Both driver and passenger threw our arms over our head because it sounded like our car had been shot at. The car swerved into other lanes of traffic. Most of the glass stayed but we had large chunks fall into the car cabin. There was also lots of fine pieces of glass falling into the car. We had a 1 year old in her carseat that had glass falling on her head. We didn't dare drive anymore, trying to avoid the glass caving in, and pulled off at the next exit.

Yesterday, i drove my vehicle to a restaurant for lunch, it was fine. When i was leaving the restaurant and coming up to a stop sign i apply my brakes and my brake pedal is spongy and goes completely to the floor without stopping my vehicle. At the next stop sign, i started slowing down even sooner and again the brake pedal goes clear to the floor. I pulled over and shut my car off and called my husband. He had me restart the vehicle and back up and go forward slowly. The brake pedal then felt like it had pressure and was stopping me. I carefully drive home, leaving a lot of space between me and vehicles in front of me. This morning the brakes are again spongy but they are stopping me when my pedal is nearly fully depressed. I researched the problem last night and found there was a recall for 2013 ford edge brake booster but when i called the dealership this morning they inform me that my 2013 ford edge is not included. There a thousands of complaints on the brakes on these vehicles and ford is not standing behind their vehicles or making the problem right. This is a safety issue and ford needs to fix it. A vehicles brakes should not just fail while parked for 45 minutes during lunch.
