NHTSA Mandated Recalls
  • Recall 104665 [USA]: A vehicle that runs out of fuel and stalls has an increased risk of a crash.
Delphi automotive systems, llc (delphi) is recalling certain replacement fuel pump modules, part number fg1155-11b1, sold for use in 2005-2010 honda odyssey vehicles. The affected fuel pump may send an incorrect fuel reading to the fuel gauge possibly causing the vehicle to run out of fuel. The fuel gauge will always read 3/4 full to full regardless of the actual level.
delphi has begun notifying dealers and distributors, and will replace the fuel pump modules, free of charge. Owners may contact delphi customer service at 1-877-411-8770. Delphi's number for this recall is gl14-004.
owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall 101851 [USA]: A fuel leak increases the risk of a fire.
American honda motor co., inc. (honda) is recalling certain 2005-2010 honda odyssey vehicles manufactured june 23, 2004, through september 4, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the fuel pump strainer cover may deteriorate allowing fuel to leak out.
parts to permanently repair the affected vehicles are not currently available. Honda will notify owners with an interim letter during may 2014. A second notice was mailed to owners october 6, 2014 when the remedy became available. Any vehicles that are currently leaking from the fuel pump cover will get a replacement, original cover. All vehicles, including those receiving the interim repair, will get an improved cover when they are available. Owners may contact honda at 1-800-999-1009. The recall numbers associated with this campaign are jd9 (inspection and/or preliminary part replacement) and je0 (final parts replacement).
owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall 70974 [USA]: A leak of brake fluid could lead to a change in brake pedal feel and overtime a degradation in braking performance increasing the risk of a crash.
Honda is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 odyssey and acura rl vehicles. Brake fluid containing polymers is used that acts as a lubricant for certain brake system components. If replacement brake fluid is used that does not contain such polymers, or that contains only small amounts, a part of the rubber seal located at the rear of the brake master cylinder may become dry, and the seal may curl during movement of the piston. If this occurs, a small amount of brake fluid could slowly leak from the seal into the brake booster.
dealers will replace the brake master cylinder seal free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during december 2010. Owners may contact honda at 1-800-999-1009.
safety recall no. R51 honda r52 acura.Owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.Safercar.Gov .

  • Recall 38748 [USA]: The language in the owner's manuals is not in accordance with the current mandatory requirements.
On certain passenger vehicles and motorcycles, the owner's manuals contain incorrect contact information for the national highway traffic safety administration's (nhtsa) vehicle safety hotline.
honda will send a postcard to dealers and owners with the correct nhtsa vehicle safety hotline information and with instructions to insert the card into the "reporting safety defects" section of the owner's manual. The recall began on august 2, 2006. Owners may contact honda at 1-800-999-1009, acura at 1-800-382-2238 or honda motorcycles at 1-866-784-1870.
customers may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall R/2019/125 [UK]: Inner pressure of the inflator may irregularly rise upon airbag deployment rupturing the inflator container
Driver air bag may not ignite correctly.
replace the drivers air bag assembly.

  • Recall 2014076 [Canada]: Fuel supply
On certain vehicles, the fuel pump strainer could deteriorate and crack. This could result in a fuel smell and/or fuel leak. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the fuel strainer cover.

  • Recall 2010364 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles, a seal in the brake master cylinder may be susceptible to damage which can result in a leak if certain conditions exist. The polymer content affects the amount of lubrication the brake fluid provides to brake system components that are exposed to brake fluid. If the brake fluid is replaced with a low polymer brake fluid, and the brake fluid is subsequently subjected to a manual brake fluid bleeding procedure, as opposed to an automated brake bleed procedure, it is possible for the seal at the end of the brake master cylinder primary circuit to become twisted within its retention groove. If this seal becomes twisted, it can result in a leak of a small amount of brake fluid each time the brake pedal is applied. Should a leak occur, after some time the driver will be alerted by the illumination of the low brake fluid indicator light on the meter panel before any effect on braking performance results. If the driver continues to drive the vehicle without refilling the brake fluid reservoir, the vehicle will eventually exhibit a soft or spongy brake pedal feel, requiring more stroke to achieve equivalent braking force. Eventually, if this continues un-remedied, braking performance will be affected, and will finally result in a low pedal and a loss of one braking circuit. Correction: dealers will replace the brake master cylinder seal cup and the master power assembly if brake fluid has leaked.

To ensure accuracy and for your safety, it is recommended to do a free VIN recall check here or here [USA] - UK - Canada.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Air in brake system investigation as of 20090513

The office of defects investigation (odi) has received 69 complaints, and honda has received 613 complaints and field reports, alleging low/soft/spongy brake pedal travel in model year (my) 2006 through 2008 honda odyssey minivans.Twenty-six odi complaints were also reported to honda, resulting in a total complaint count of 656.Some complaints allege that the condition resulted in extended stopping distances, including some reports of rolling past stop signs or traffic lights. There are 14 alleged crashes in the subject vehicle population related to low/soft pedals. In response to odis information request for preliminary evaluation pe09-024, honda indicated that small amounts of air may enter the brake system during initial diagnostics of the vehicle stability assist (vsa) modulator while the pump is briefly actuated for system diagnostics after the engine is started. The amount of air gradually increases with each successive engine start cycle, resulting in progressively increasing brake pedal stroke.According to honda, the condition does not present a significant risk to motor vehicle safety because "the pedal stroke gradually increases, providing the driver with information that the brake pedal height is changing and requires attention."honda has further indicated that there is no deterioration of braking performance caused by the subject condition, even though the pedal height and feel are different, until pedal stroke has reached the end of travel and the driver cannot produce any additional brake line pressure.Honda states that it is unaware of any vehicles that have reached such a condition and honda testing using a leaking field return modulator indicates that it would take over a year before the pedal travel would reach its limit during hard stops with 200 n (45 lbf) of pedal effort - the nominal force required to reach abs braking mode. Odis analysis of warranty data indicates that the my 2007-08 odyssey vehicles have experienced the alleged defect at a rate of 0.67%.The my 2006 odyssey vehicles have experienced the alleged defect at a significantly lower rate (0.04%) than the my 2007-08 odyssey.Honda implemented a design change in the my 2007 vehicles to change the vsa diagnostic program. This investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea09-014) for the my 2007-08 odyssey vehicles to continue to investigate the scope, frequency, and safety-related consequences of the alleged defect.

While driving down the road and once the engine reaches operating temperature the vehicle fails to accelerate and shift gears. I mash the gas pedal and the rpm gauge goes up but the vehicle doesn't move. I let the engine and transmission cool down and sometimes it will operate properly again until everything warms up. It doesn't matter if im sitting at a light or in actual motion going down the road, the vehicle ceases to continue moving. I have been going 60 mph and all of a sudden my car loses all movement but the car is still reving up and i can change gears but it stops me dead in my tracks. I called the transmission shop and they tell me its a very common issue but nothing has been able to be pinpointed

Vehicle has a approximately 140,000 mi. While driving on freeway at 65 mph.Transmission torque converter lockup malfunctioned and went into neutral. Had to coast across 4 lanes of traffic to exit. When speed permitted shift down to wnd and qstacks gear and was able to limp into a parkin* lot. Had to have car towed to a transmission facility. Pulled the transmission dip stick and smelled the fluid which emitted a very pungent smell. The fluid was not black. The fluid had been changed 15- 20,000 mi earlier. When talking to mechanic he told me almost exactly how many m8les he thought the car had because he had seen so many honda's with exactly this same problem. I believe that honda did not design this transmission properly to last with proper maintenance and fluid changes.

I am having a problem with the power steering freezing up on slow turns and the transmission torque converter clutch is stuck making the car transmission heat up and quit until it cools down, i was stuck on the side of the road 4x for this. Once with my 97 yr old brother in law and 79 yr old sister. They want $4000 to fix this. The driver side sliding door cable broke also.I had the run flat pax tires on it when it was purchased, i was not told that i would have to drive at least 100 to 200 miles to get them changed out as they need a special machine to fix them. I had to buy new rims and tires for $1500. I have 125,000 miles on the car. I will never buy or recommend a honda to anyone.

We quickly exited the next closest exit and the van started to stall. We were not able to accelerate any more. We were already 82 miles from home and not near any businesses. We called roadside service which towed us to the nearest mechanic who told us we needed a new transmission. Our trip was over! We had to pay $350 to tow us back home. My van only has 82,000 miles! I can't believe the transmission failed! This is a safety issue because their were no prior warning before the transmission failure!!!

Sliding doors on both sides keep stopping and the one on the left you have to pull it open. Doors are very heavy to pull and slide back safety hazard for my children or other passengers. Several people that i run into are having the same issue. After i purchase the vehicle i had to take it in due to the left back sliding door not opening someone had to get in and push on the door in order for it to open. The first time it happened was around 2012 or 2013. Now it's happening again in n2019. Sometimes while driving the left sliding door will open by itself.

After experiencing increasing vibration only during acceleration while driving the 2006 honda odyssey, i did some research. As it turns out, the engine mounts (alternately referred to as "motor mounts") are an extremely well-known defect among consumers. I was as much as told by the pleasant young woman who answered at honda consumer affairs that because the safety concerns of broken engine mounts are negligible, that the manufacturer doesn't really care - despite the fact that is a known defect, is extremely prevalent, is recurring requiring many owners to replace the mounts 2,3 4 or more times over the course of ownership, it has a known cause (the "eco drive" system, and can be very expensive to repair. In fact, what she actually said was that my car did not have a recall associated with it. When i informed her that i already knew that, but wanted to register a complaint with honda and to inquire as to the likelihood of any sort of compensation or repair, i was told to file this complaint. I again explained i'd like to deal with honda, and was again assured that no one there - no one - was interested in hearing my concerns, nor would anyone there do anything about it without intervention from the government. Why has honda not issued a recall? Excessive vibration at high rates of speed can, and does, cause issues with stability and control. The range of speed at which this problem occurs is widening, and the vibration is becoming increasingly strong. As of now, it occurs only while accelerating, not at all during coasting, mostly at highway or freeway speeds, or lower speeds during rapid acceleration.

This van has been a frustrating nightmare. Besides the pax system tire issues, we have had to fix both sliding doors because they fell off. Last summer the door wouldn't close, then it fell off the track while i was out shopping with my kids. My husband came with some tools and helped to get it closed so we could take it to the auto shop. It was an expensive fix not to mention the damage to the exterior. Yesterday while i was at the library with four of my children ( 8,6,3, and a baby) the other door came off the track. This time, my husband was not around to come help us ( he is deployed serving in afghanistan). We had to get the van towed, and the door stayed open all night because the shop was closed. While there, one of the men working said he is having the same problem with his odyssey. Looking online i see this is a common issue because a piece was made with nylon ( to reduce noise) when it should have been made with steel. There is obviously something wrong with the hardware on this. Honda needs to fix these, instead of leaving the burden to rest on the consumers who purchased these pieces of junk. What a frustrating situation!

Vehicle steering is stiff on slow turns and parking. Steering column vibrates at a high rate of speed. Tie rods have been replaced. New tires, rotors and brake pads have also been replaced. The sub-frame, rr assembly got so severely corroded that it has cracks and fractures and now there is a small hole in it which is deemed as a safety issue that we can't even drive the vehicle. The cost to repair it is more than half my vehicle value at this point. What is pretty interesting is that the honda dealers don't stock the part (50300-shj-a01) and can't really say if or when they can get the part. More than a couple of them have told me that they've never ordered this part before, which leads me to assume that this could not be a normal wear and tear failure. I called honda and they will not rely on a 3rd party (my trusted & reputed local mechanic) opinion and would like me to take the vehicle, most likely tow it, to the dealer at my expense and get it diagnosed at my expense, which my mechanic has already done. The seat belt was locked in the ceiling and retracting tighter as she struggled. The fluid filled motor mounts that come on the exl/touring model have both failed and fluid leaked out. The concept behind these electronically controlled motor mounts is to dampen the vibration when the van goes into eco mode reducing the active cylinders from 6 to 3. When these mounts fail the van vibrates considerably in the eco mode. I googled the issues and see that their are many others with this same issue from year 2005 -2007 at all different levels of mileage. The cost of repair through honda is over $1800. I have never seen such a run on motor mounts as i have when trying to research the issue which makes me thing there is a engineering/design flaw. Left un-repaired and honda told me that the vibration can cause many other issues rendering the van unsafe to drive.

I bought my 06 odyssey touring edition in 2015. I am the second owner and it only had 115,000 miles on it. I had no problems at first and then soon after started having a shuttering problem around 45 mph. I had a saturn vue with the same problem and had the same motor and transmission as my honda. Chevrolet did a recall on it i brought it in the reprogrammed and recalibrated it no problems after that. So when my honda started i brought it to the dealer to see if there was a recall and they said not on my vin. So i asked how much to reprogram and recalibrate and the told me that if it does not have a new update then they could not do it (which i know is bull since we own a mechanic shop and deal with things like this all the time). I do not have the $3000 plus to fix the torque converter and feel if other vehicle with same transmissions have been recalled then this one should be too!!!

Vehicle with driver only was traveling west on i80 a couple of miles before the sf oak bay bridge in the far left lane going approx 60 miles per hour (5 mph below posted limit) in heavy traffic. Car in adjacent right lane darted into the left lane in front of me to avoid an accident and slammed on his brakes at the same time. I hit the brakes immediately and the abs engaged but since the car trying to avoid the accident, imact occured at a speed less than 60 mph. Car behind me slammed into my back end. There was significant impact to the front and rear of the vehicle. I was wearing my seat belt which i beleive helped save my life but injuries did occur. I sustained serious head (concussion), neck (muscle strain) and back (spinal nerve damage). Head and neck injuries appear to have resolved but continue to have pain and damage to back (spinal and nerve) the reason for this complaint report is that none of the numerous airbags on the honda odessey deployed during this high impact to both the front and rear of the vehicle. I honestly don't know if this was a good thing or bad but i would have expected the airbags to deploy, which i believe would have helped minimize the injuries i incurred the case is under investigation by my insurance company (progressive) but at this point they have concluded the fault of the accident was the person that shifted lanes in an attempt to avoid an accident in his lane coming into my "safe zone" as the police called it. I asked them to hold the car for inspection by honda authorities a few weeks after the accident i called honda to report that the airbags did not deploy. They gave me case number 12015-04-0701544. They called yesterday and said they were not going to check car. I feel it is their obligation to see if there is a flaw in the ab's. I don't want another party to die or be injured as a result of faulty airbags.

However, driver's side curtain airbag did not deploy resulting in head trauma as driver's head hit the driver's side window. Impact should have set off side curtain airbag sensors. Vehicle was totaled & sold by insurance company without dealer inspection of problem. My 2006 odyssey was hit on the passenger 2nd row by a vehicle that ran a stop sign and sustained significant damage to the 2nd row passenger side. The impact caused the odyssey to spin and was pushed at least 20 feet before being stopped by the curb. My wife was driving and she sustained minor injuries- no one was in the 2nd row thankfully. When i viewed the condition of the vehicle, there was no question in my mind that the side curtain airbag should have deployed. However, after inquiring further to verify this assumption, i discovered that no airbag was deployed. I was shocked to learn this. The side curtain airbag should have deployed and did not. I consider this to be a malfunction, and i am informing you of it as such. In my opinion this is a matter of public safety because a side curtain air bag should deploy when vehicle is hit hard and directly on its side. I was left with the thought of why do they even install these if it does not deploy in this type of accident. I can provide pictures which substantiate the force of the impact and damage sustained. Thank you. *tr

My 2006 honda odyssey went up in flame, while i was driving the vehicle, on 10/11/14. Insurance had me tow it to the honda dealer. After honda having the car for 31 days the insurance paid the repairs & i paid my $500.00 deductible. I'm ready to drive my honda odyssey away on 11/13/14, and i notice the van began to shake violently and the rpm's dropped to almost 0. No report was given to me about what was wrong with van & what future repairs had to be done. All i got was the present repairs due to the fire, even after we had asked them to do a full inspection of the vehicle. Prior to the fire the van never shook, it never had this problem before. While there, they performed the changing of the fuel pump which had been recalled by honda, but now we can not be sure that it was done nor can we be sure that it didn't affect the cars status now. Honda still has the van in their lot & insurance adjuster went to see the car and now honda is saying that the shaking of the car has nothing to do with the fire. According to honda's final report the "probable" cause of fire was in the alternator area -sub-cord alternator to fuse box. Honda said the shake is caused by the rubber motor mounts. I tried to tell honda they are rubber pieces and when rubber comes in contact with heat it melts. Honda will not fix without me paying out of pocket. If the problem really is the motor mounts, i have researched that many people are awaiting a recall from honda on the motor mounts for the fact that theirs prematurely fails. Honda has us on a back and fourth. If they can't be sure what caused the fire and are disregarding the motor mounts going bad due to the fire or the fuel pump recall, then how can they be sure that none of the above is not causing the violent shake on the van. *tr

That is disturbing when i think about how my daughter was helping me get items out of the back. We could have been seriously injured. Thirdly, the paint is stripping off on parts of the body. Considering the reputation that honda is supposed to have, it is upsetting to have this many problems with an 8 year old vehicle! Now we must decide if it's worth fixing and keeping or trade it in for a toyota. The sales personnel said that it could possibly be weather related and to give it some time and that if it continued to not work properly then to bring the van back and they would fix it. We had just undergone an ice storm here in michigan, in december 2013, and had unusually cold temperatures which stayed until early march. I contacted the dealer after the weather had warmed a bit and told them about the door and they said that the van was out of warranty but that they would work on it as a good faith gesture. The van was taken in and the center roller assembly of the right side sliding door was replaced. The door worked properly for a couple of weeks and then started to not work properly. The symptoms the door was exhibiting were that of a failed release actuator. I have found through research that this is one of the most common problems with the 3rd generation honda odyssey vans and when i contacted the dealer regarding this issue they said there was nothing they could do unless i was willing to pay for it. They had even noted it in the van's service record that the release actuator might have to be replaced but elected not to do it at the time they replaced the center roller because the van's door tested ok. *js

On my way to work on january 14, 2014, as i was getting up to speed (from 0 to 20), the engine revved around 2000 rpm, the transmission would not engage 2nd gear. I backed off the gas pedal and the transmission engaged. The check engine light lit up and i drove it to a honda dealership. The service department said that their diagnostic revealed an internal issue with the transmission and would need replacement. I have owned 7 hondas since 1983, and i have never had this type of problem. The van is at a local transmission shop rebuilding the transmission for $1500, honda wanted $5300. The van has been well maintained over the years and i'm very surprised that the transmission would go at 141,000 miles, but transmission issues appears to be a problem with the odyssey lineup over the years. Unfortunately, i was not made aware of these issues prior to purchase. Disappointing. *tr

Experiencing vibration in vehicle during acceleration between 40-60 mph. Took the van to mechanic and was informed that two motors mounts are bad and need replacing. These are not wear and tear items and should not need replacing. This appears to be a problem with honda odyssey vans and this problem is not being covered by warranty since the failure occurs around 100k to 150k miles. *tr

Van has manual sliding doors. Upon shutting passenger side door normally the door would not open from either the interior or exterior. Child safety lock was off. Lock mechanism works normally but door latch will not disengage. Six months later at 172000 miles the driver side sliding door experienced the same failure resulting in a seven passenger vehicle with no egress for passengers in case of emergency. Upon removal of interior door panels it is clear there is an internal failure of the latch mechanism. All cables and controls work normally but the latches have failed. *tr

While there is already a honda service bulletin issued concerning problem (bulletin #: 11-039). The response by honda is not adequate. The problem is that the steering wheel is hard to turn at low speeds (such as turning into and out of parking spots). Although this defect with the power steering pump only occurs at low speeds it still a safety issue. The fact that is very hard to turn the steering wheel can reasonable lead to pedestrian accident such as pedestrian becoming pinned against a car. Honda extended the warranty on this part to 7 years / 100,000 miles. I have under 80,000 miles on my car but honda claims i am a few months beyond the 7 year date. Honda should be required to further extend this warranty as many people will not be able to afford this expensive repair and it could leave to injury to persons in parking lots. *tr

I am the original owner of 2006 honda odyssey. The vehicle was always serviced by honda dealer every few months for oil change and other scheduled maintenance. Right after my extended warranty expired last august 2013, santan honda in chandler had told me that i had two cracked engine mounts. The vehicle was never raced nor towed anything. It was purely used by wife to haul my dogs to the park and grocery the cost was close to $900 including part, labor and tax. I have afraid the other engine mounts will fail anytime soon. It is very unusual for engine mounts to fail immaturely at such low mileage. I have seen many odysseys owner of model year 2005-2006 had similar complaints. Please refer to another compliant number 10425453. Please investigate if it qualifies for a recall. *tr

Appears that there is an o ring issue on this year honda odyssey. Air is getting in the power steering pump/lines causing a whining during turns and acceleration. This is an issue that warrants a "tsb" to the mechanics and service industry, however, honda has yet to announce a recall or offer assistance in the matter. On my 2006 odyssey had to replace the front brakes at around 19,000 miles due to shaking of the car when braking. Recently at 34,000 miles the vsa warning light came on, took it to my local honda dealership and it was diagnosed that the vsa modulator needs to be replaced and that it's dangerous to drive the minivan. A quick search on the internet reveals that the vsa is a common issue. I question the quality of such an important piece of equipment and the high price to replace, over $1000. With such low mileage such parts should not go bad. I see that honda issued a recall for a vsa issue but for 2007-2008 odysseys. I believe it should include all years. *tr

My drivers door closed and i yelled for help which several people came to my aid. The people was able to shut off my van and they lifted the van off my leg. Driving at 50 mph on a friday night. My van suddenly gave a loud explosive sound and the cabin filled up with smoke and i could not breathe or see properly. I wondered what was going on and quickly pulled up on the side of the road. It took me some time to get out of the van since i am disabled. My husband had to literally speaking, carry me out and sat me on the side of the road. Passers by had already called 911 when they noticed what was going on. The police, ambulance and fire dept came. The fire dept determined that my van was smoking heavily and they took care of the fire in my engine when they opened the hood. The van was towed to the dealership and they informed me that my transmission was defective. The only problem was that this will then be the third transmission in a van that is less than 8 years old. I had a similar problem in july 2011 at 80,000 miles and the transmission was replaced then with promises from honda that i was good for another 5 years. So when this problem occurred exactly 2 years to the time that the second transmission was replaced, i reported the problem to honda and they want me to pay for a third transmission. This is despite the fact that i always serviced my van with the dealership. It has never been serviced with the local repair shop. I am still making car payments on my van and they want me to pay for a new transmission? I will appreciate an investigation on why honda is allowed to sell lemons to consumers even though they are aware of transmission problems on the odyssey vans. Smoke and fire due to recurring transmission problems on the same van is a safety issue. I pray that no one will be killed or injured due to recurring transmission problems with honda odyssey vans. Thanks in advance for your assistance in protecting and ensuring consumer safety as we drive our cars. *tr

I went back in to complain and the manager stated that the low pedal was normal for this vehicle. I have had many vehicles in my life and when the pedal goes further down than the gas pedal and almost touches the floor with new brakes installed there is something wrong. When stopped the pedal will travel almost two more inches before getting "hard". I know honda has some kind of bulletin out on this issue but i cant seen to find it. Honda has a known issue with the paint on at least a dozen different models and years...Except mine. The paint on my hood and roof started chipping and peeling away a couple of years ago, and now it's spread to many of the fender seams, as well as seams and joints on the roof. While it's "only paint"...We all know that rust leads to structural integrity issues, holes and can allow water and elements in to damage the engine. So, this is a safety issue as well as a "visual" issue. I'd like honda to address this for our car.

The power steering pump in our odyssey started making a loud squealing noise, and at some later time, the steering wheel began to vibrate. The steering pump noise was intermittent, and occurred at low and idle speeds only. There was never a loss of steering capability, but the shimmy in the steering wheel leads to driver discomfort and driver fatigue. Honda has since replaced the power steering pump at a reduced cost to us, but the new pump has not solved the steering wheel shimmy. The shimmy is very similar to the effects of a bent wheel or a out of balance tire, but different wheels and different tires, in addition to multiple tire re-balances have failed to correct the problem. The steering shimmy occurs only at speeds above approximately 62 mph, and seems to occur after about 70 - 100 miles of driving. Within this driving scenario, the shimmy can get very bad, and then at times completely disappear. But for most of the time, the shimmy is present. At speeds below 55 mph, the vehicle behaves very well. I'm not sure if this problem is unique to my vehicle, or if others have experienced the same issues. If it is generic to the vehicle design, then honda needs to provide odyssey owners with an economical solution. Should the problem persist, i will have not choice but to sell the vehicle because, aside form the potential safety issues, it does not provide the driving comfort that we need. *tr

My odyssey lost power/wouldn't accelerate/wouldn't shift as we approached the top of a 7% grade. We pulled over, shut the car off and checked fluids etc.. Everything was fine. We tried to get going again and the van wouldn't go. We sat for about an hour and tried again, and the van got going again perfectly fine. We were able to get to honda when it broke down again. Honda diagnosed it with a bad transmission/torque converter. The atf fluid was burnt (my odyssey has the atf fluid cooler too). The tech said the vcm (eco mode, variable cylinder management) increases the load/stress on the vehicle and is a contributing factor of the break down. My odyssey has been meticulously maintained at honda y honda specs/recommendations. I had no previous indication my trans was going out (no gear slipping anything. It drove fine up until it broke down) i called american honda for assistance in the repair, and they failed to even offer any sort of help. My odyssey's motor mount failed last year before i hit 100,000. I was recently told that i need to replace the other three. It is my understanding that this is an ongoing problem with the vehicle, and honda should recall the vehicles for this defect. *tr

Lack of power steering. We bought this van at the end of september, 2012. We noticed this issue within a few days of owning it. This continues to be an on-going issue and is happening at various speeds and at various times. Not just in parking lots. This happens when slowing down to make turns in normal driving settings. It also happens when driving into round-abouts. This is a very serious safety issue! I tried to contact honda via email once we began to notice it and got no reply. I have looked at different complaint websites and see this a lot. Recently, with the fuel pump recall, i called into honda directly regarding the fuel pump. During the call, i described this steering issue to the rep. She said honda knows of it and what they did was to extend the original warranty on the vehicles to 100,000 miles to repair it. However, it was not repaired in all vehicles. The issue is that periodically the power steering system stops working and you must manually turn the steering wheel. We have several children in our family. It is scary to know that the steering could cause a serious accident & cause serious injury or death. Many highways now have round-abouts at the exits. Many towns & cities are putting in round-abouts for traffic flow. I have been noticing this issue when coming into round-abouts at various speeds. The nhtsa needs to get involved and get honda to recall these before serious injury or death occurs. Thank you. *tr

I am writing with regards to my 2006 honda odyssey. Took it to the dealer for a recall related issue with my brakes and while fixing it, they noticed that the vehicle had issues with rear engine mount. Dealer told me my rear engine mount is broken and that's why my vehicle vibrates and that will eventually lead to failure with power steering, a/c, engine, transmission...Etc. Since the vehicle can come to a halt in the middle of driving if left unattended, i think this is a serious safety concern with any honda minivan's and wanted to bring this to your attention. I started reading about this on the internet and looks like lots of people have the same issue with their engine mounts (both front & rear) with odyssey's especially from 2005 - 2009. I would imagine honda is well aware of this issue and they did nothing to fix the problem in the first place. Filed a formal complaint with honda and it went nowhere and i was told since my vehicle is out of warranty (5 years or 60000 miles which ever comes first) there is nothing they can do to help me with it. I paid 711$ to fix the issue, which should have never been the case had honda taken some responsibility to fix it in the first place. Whats really annoying is a broken engine part with just 48000 miles on it? I just hope this does not lead to any loss of life. Please consider this as a top priority issue and do the needful to address it. Thank you! *tr

Loud noise from engine compartment during a turn. Repair shop said the passenger side engine mount has nearly failed and the others will need to be replaced soon. It makes no sense for such a part to fail at 65k miles - this issue should be grounds for a recall. *tr

Transmission continues to shudder at 50 mph. It looks like it shutters until you hit the gas or let off. If you are coasting on flat ground, steady at the same speed, it will do it until you let off the gas or hit the gas harder. *tr

Front motor mount is torn and recommend replacing for $951.28 + tax; side motor mount is leaking and recommend replacing for $238.88 + tax. This van is used mainly for driving my kids to school and activities. No heavy towing nor hard driving. I was told that it's a common problem with honda odyssey, but at this time honda corporation has not addressed it. My van really makes noise and rattles when accelerating and i'm concerned that it is a safety issue if the engine is not secured properly. *tr

Brand new replaced battery and electrical start issue happening again. Sometime the car wouldn't start as if the battery is dead, then wait 10 minute and everything works (tho all the code reset as if the battery was disconnected). This is what caused us to replace the battery after dealer couldn't find any issue. It worked for a few weeks but problem is back. Dealer can't replicate issue since of course it starts fine. But there is some inherent issue with odyssey electrical issue as a lot of people have this issue. *tr

Bought vehicle used & noticed a soft pedal from the go! Saw where master cylinder was rebuilt & front pads put on before my purchase. Took to honda to get serviced on 7/18/2012 at 118,647 miles & told them it still felt a little soft with the pedal going lower than normal. They checked it out in service & put new rotors & pads on the rear. We took it on a trip to florida & the brakes felt good. Seems better now however it's beginning to feel a little soft again but appears to be braking ok. I told [xxx] in service at honda & i told him i will keep an eye on it to see if there are any differences in the oncoming miles. He said ok. Thanks!
