• Recall 246755 [USA]: Unintended vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash.
  Kia america, inc. (kia) is recalling certain 2015-2019 soul ev vehicles. The parking mechanism may be damaged, which can result in unintended vehicle movement when the gear shift lever is in the park 'p' position and the parking brake is not applied while the vehicle is powered on.
  dealers will update the electronic control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed december 21, 2023. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is sc287. This recall expands and replaces recall number 20v-389. Vehicles previously repaired under 20v-389 will need to have the new remedy completed.

• Recall 234850 [USA]: A battery electrical short-circuit increases the risk of a fire.
  Kia america, inc. (kia) is recalling certain 2015-2019 soul ev vehicles equipped with an e400 battery. The high-voltage battery pack may experience an electrical short-circuit while driving.
  dealers will update and/or replace the battery management system and software, as necessary, free of charge. The new software will illuminate the ev warning light, limit charging capacity, and reduce vehicle power if abnormal voltage is detected. If this occurs, the battery will be replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed august 18, 2023. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is sc267.

• Recall 230789 [USA]: Air bags that do not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
  Kia motors america (kia) is recalling certain 2017-2019 sedona, soul, soul ev, 2017-2018 forte, and 2017 forte koup vehicles. The air bag control unit (acu) cover may contact a memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the electrical circuit. Circuit damage may result in deactivated air bags that will not deploy in a crash.
  dealers will inspect the acu, and either update the software or replace the unit, as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed march 21, 2022. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is sc226.

• Recall 2022023 [Canada]: Airbag
  Issue: on certain vehicles, a defect in the airbag control unit could cause the airbag warning light to turn on. If this happens, the airbag system may not work properly, and the airbags may not inflate in a crash. Safety risk: an airbag system that does not work properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective actions: kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the airbag control unit software. If the airbag warning light is on because of diagnostic trouble code B1620, the dealer will replace the airbag control unit.

• Recall 2021733 [Canada]: Engine
  Issue: kia canada is conducting a product improvement campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: this only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.0 l nu gdi engine. Safety risk: a sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: kia will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: kia recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the owner's manual. If you experience unusual engine noise, reduced power, or a check engine/oil warning light, kia advises you to immediately visit a kia dealership to have your vehicle diagnosed.

• Vehicle rollaway investigation # RQ23005

  On july 2, 2020, kia america inc. (kia) filed safety recall 20v-389 for model year (my) 2015-2016 kia soul ev vehicles. This recall was in response to allegations of unintended vehicle movement while in park and provided updated electronic control unit software for the electronic parking brake logic as the remedy. The updated logic, which was included during production for my 2017-2019 kia soul ev vehicles, automatically activates the electronic parking brake when the vehicle is powered off while the gear shift lever is in the park position. On september 10, 2023, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened a recall query (rq23-005) to investigate allegations of unintended vehicle movement while in park in my 2015-2019 kia soul ev vehicles. At the time that the investigation was opened, odi had received 3 vehicle owner questionnaires (voqs) and additional early warning reporting data involving reports of unintended vehicle movement in my 2017-2018 kia soul ev vehicles. One of the voqs submitted to odi reported a rollaway collision with a fire hydrant, which occurred after the operator had parked and exited the vehicle. Following the opening of this recall query, odi and kia participated in a joint inspection the vehicle which had been involved in a rollaway collision. During the inspection, the subject vehicle exhibited the alleged defect, rolling both forwards and backwards while shifted into park with the electronic parking brake not engaged. The subject vehicles electronic parking brake logic performed as designed during the inspection and the vehicle experienced no unintended movement while the electronic parking brake was engaged. In its november 21, 2023 response to odis information request, kia provided customer complaint and warranty claim data for 19 unique vins which relate to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. Kia separately made odi aware of one additional allegation of vehicle rollaway that resulted in a collision with another vehicle. This collision was reported to kia following their cutoff date for the information request response. Kia stated that based on its investigation, the subject vehicles parking mechanism can be damaged if the gear shift lever is shifted to park prior to coming to a complete stop. If the parking mechanism is damaged and the electronic parking brake is not engaged, unintended vehicle movement while in park may occur. However, based on odis analysis of the available information, it is apparent that not all allegations of the subject defect which have been investigated by kia have had evidence that the parking mechanism was damaged. At this time, the root cause of the alleged defect is not yet confirmed. On october 19, 2023 kia filed safety recall 23v-724 for my 2015-2019 kia soul ev vehicles. The new recall remedy provides update electronic parking brake logic that automatically activates the electronic parking brake when the gear shift lever is in the park position, regardless of whether the vehicle is powered on or off. At this time, nhtsa has not received any reports of electronic parking brake failure for the subject vehicles, but will continue to monitor following this investigation. In view of the recall action being taken by kia, odi is closing this recall query. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. • Pedestrian alert sounds investigation # DP22005

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The petitioner requests that nhtsa require all electric and hybrid vehicles comply with fmvss 141, regardless of production date.The defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition.The associated product list is not exhaustive and may contain vehicles that are equipped with pedestrian alert sounds.

While driving to work my engine began to knock, my oil light flickered and went out, and then i completely lost power. I took my 2018 kia soul to a local mechanic and he confirmed that my engine was blown and would need to be replaced with only 78,388 miles on my vehicle.

I have been a 3 car kia customer for almost 10 years. In the last 10 months i have had more than a dozen service visits. Starting in august 2020 my engine was losing oil. After first visit, my sa edwin agreed this is a problem, do the oil consumption test and we’ll be on our way for a repair. Test done, with a "sorry" we have to do the test again but we replaced the ignition coil. (2nd coil since i’ve owned car) and again we test. With more "sorry" it didn't burn enough oil, or you have to come in exactly at 1,000 miles. (this is not true; math can be converted at any mileage over the 1,000.) even when i told them it starts burning at the 2,000 mark after oil change. Over and over again, i miss work to sit in the dealership, or walk home, as the dealership insisted on these appointments but wouldn't give me a loaner (i have full coverage insurance) finally in march 2021 they decide they will clean the combustion chamber. Need to leave car: they make me rent a car saying it will be paid for with my warranty. Additional days needed as more problems occurred while in for repair. (oil switch). Keep the rental they told me, it’s covered. Return the rental and the dealership won’t pay the rental. I have now missed over 30 hours of work, repeated oil change costs for the process, rental fees, inspection fees that were never reimbursed. All in avoidance of a repair that was clearly needed to my engine. Go back into a new kia on 6/1/21 for scheduled oil change, and the tech tells me there is no oil on the dipstick. Again. 10 months later and i still have the same problem. This vehicle is not safe and kia will not address.

2018 kia soul+ with 2.0l engine has developed a rod knock at 86k miles. Kia customer service was made aware of the issue and has refused to to repair the vehicle. According to a kid certified technician at a kia dealership, the issue is the same as other kia vehicles with a recall for, "connecting rod excessive wear". Customer service was made aware of these findings and still refuses to issue recall. Engine currently runs, but can not be run for very long or driven due to eminent risk of catastrophic engine failure.

The cruise control somehow affects the engine and or transmission when in cruise it speeds up with out pressing on the gas the mpr goes way over 4 mpr then i cancel the cruise and reset it and same thing happens this is on hwy

January 21st 2021, went to a dealership in miami and purchased a used kia soul plus. January 26th 2021, after leaving the post office car slowed down and came to a stop. Oil light was glitching prior to that day. Car was in drive and couldn't shift gears to park or neutral. Had to push the car into a parking lot and sit. Took to a kia dealership and they replaced oil gasket. Took the car home few days driving to and from work. February 9th car broke down again while turning inside parking spot. Car battery light and oil pressure light was both on. Car went back to kia dealership thursday 11th. Kia looked at the car stating oil sludge was all inside the engine and repairs will cost $9,000. Used car is not under warranty.
