• Recall 246759 [USA]: Unintended vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash.
  Kia america, inc. (kia) is recalling certain 2015-2019 soul ev vehicles. The parking mechanism may be damaged, which can result in unintended vehicle movement when the gear shift lever is in the park 'p' position and the parking brake is not applied while the vehicle is powered on.
  dealers will update the electronic control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed december 21, 2023. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is sc287. This recall expands and replaces recall number 20v-389. Vehicles previously repaired under 20v-389 will need to have the new remedy completed.

• Recall 234856 [USA]: A battery electrical short-circuit increases the risk of a fire.
  Kia america, inc. (kia) is recalling certain 2015-2019 soul ev vehicles equipped with an e400 battery. The high-voltage battery pack may experience an electrical short-circuit while driving.
  dealers will update and/or replace the battery management system and software, as necessary, free of charge. The new software will illuminate the ev warning light, limit charging capacity, and reduce vehicle power if abnormal voltage is detected. If this occurs, the battery will be replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed august 18, 2023. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is sc267.

• Recall 230794 [USA]: Air bags that do not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
  Kia motors america (kia) is recalling certain 2017-2019 sedona, soul, soul ev, 2017-2018 forte, and 2017 forte koup vehicles. The air bag control unit (acu) cover may contact a memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the electrical circuit. Circuit damage may result in deactivated air bags that will not deploy in a crash.

• Recall 2022023 [Canada]: Airbag
  Issue: on certain vehicles, a defect in the airbag control unit could cause the airbag warning light to turn on. If this happens, the airbag system may not work properly, and the airbags may not inflate in a crash. Safety risk: an airbag system that does not work properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective actions: kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the airbag control unit software. If the airbag warning light is on because of diagnostic trouble code B1620, the dealer will replace the airbag control unit.

• Recall 2021733 [Canada]: Engine
  Issue: kia canada is conducting a product improvement campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: this only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.0 l nu gdi engine. Safety risk: a sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: kia will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: kia recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the owner's manual. If you experience unusual engine noise, reduced power, or a check engine/oil warning light, kia advises you to immediately visit a kia dealership to have your vehicle diagnosed.

  Issue: on certain vehicles, an abnormal sensor signal to the integrated electronic brake (ieb) system could cause a sudden reduction in braking performance. If this happens, a brake warning light will turn on in the instrument cluster. Safety risk: reduced brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the integrated electronic brake (ieb) system software.

• Vehicle rollaway investigation # RQ23005

  On july 2, 2020, kia america inc. (kia) filed safety recall 20v-389 for model year (my) 2015-2016 kia soul ev vehicles. This recall was in response to allegations of unintended vehicle movement while in park and provided updated electronic control unit software for the electronic parking brake logic as the remedy. The updated logic, which was included during production for my 2017-2019 kia soul ev vehicles, automatically activates the electronic parking brake when the vehicle is powered off while the gear shift lever is in the park position. On september 10, 2023, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened a recall query (rq23-005) to investigate allegations of unintended vehicle movement while in park in my 2015-2019 kia soul ev vehicles. At the time that the investigation was opened, odi had received 3 vehicle owner questionnaires (voqs) and additional early warning reporting data involving reports of unintended vehicle movement in my 2017-2018 kia soul ev vehicles. One of the voqs submitted to odi reported a rollaway collision with a fire hydrant, which occurred after the operator had parked and exited the vehicle. Following the opening of this recall query, odi and kia participated in a joint inspection the vehicle which had been involved in a rollaway collision. During the inspection, the subject vehicle exhibited the alleged defect, rolling both forwards and backwards while shifted into park with the electronic parking brake not engaged. The subject vehicles electronic parking brake logic performed as designed during the inspection and the vehicle experienced no unintended movement while the electronic parking brake was engaged. In its november 21, 2023 response to odis information request, kia provided customer complaint and warranty claim data for 19 unique vins which relate to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. Kia separately made odi aware of one additional allegation of vehicle rollaway that resulted in a collision with another vehicle. This collision was reported to kia following their cutoff date for the information request response. Kia stated that based on its investigation, the subject vehicles parking mechanism can be damaged if the gear shift lever is shifted to park prior to coming to a complete stop. If the parking mechanism is damaged and the electronic parking brake is not engaged, unintended vehicle movement while in park may occur. However, based on odis analysis of the available information, it is apparent that not all allegations of the subject defect which have been investigated by kia have had evidence that the parking mechanism was damaged. At this time, the root cause of the alleged defect is not yet confirmed. On october 19, 2023 kia filed safety recall 23v-724 for my 2015-2019 kia soul ev vehicles. The new recall remedy provides update electronic parking brake logic that automatically activates the electronic parking brake when the gear shift lever is in the park position, regardless of whether the vehicle is powered on or off. At this time, nhtsa has not received any reports of electronic parking brake failure for the subject vehicles, but will continue to monitor following this investigation. In view of the recall action being taken by kia, odi is closing this recall query. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. • Pedestrian alert sounds investigation # DP22005

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The petitioner requests that nhtsa require all electric and hybrid vehicles comply with fmvss 141, regardless of production date.The defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition.The associated product list is not exhaustive and may contain vehicles that are equipped with pedestrian alert sounds.

• Loss of motive power investigation # DP22003

  The national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) received a letter dated july 13, 2022, petitioning the agency to initiate a safety defect investigation into loss of motive power allegations attributed to oil drain pan assembly failures on certain hyundai motor america, inc. And kia america, inc. Vehicles spanning model years (my) 2005-2021. The petitioners cited examples of complaints indicating that the subject vehicles were experiencing rapid loss of engine oil due to oil drain plug back outs, resulting in loss of motive power and/or catastrophic engine damage. Additional complaints were provided which alleged that the oil drain pans lack sufficient structural integrity and are susceptible to cracking. The petition itself can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11481745. On september 12, 2022, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened defect petition (dp22-003) to evaluate the petitioners’ request. The petitioners have provided additional complaints within four supplemental letters dated january 31, 2023, march 21, 2023, may 23, 2023, and august 4, 2023. Odi’s evaluation included the review and analysis of the complaints and supporting information submitted by the petitioners, as well as additional complaints submitted directly to nhtsa which referenced either the oil drain plug or a crack in the oil pan. After reviewing the available data, odi has not identified evidence that would support opening a defect investigation into the oil drain pan assemblies of the subject vehicles. Based on a review of the available information, a loss of motive power resulting from an oil drain plug back out has not occurred between the initial sale of a vehicle and the completion of its first oil change. If during an oil change service, a technician fails to remove the existing drain plug gasket before installing a new gasket, it is likely that a proper seal between the drain plug and the oil pan will not be made. An improper seal between the drain plug and oil pan could lead to the backing out on the drain plug, resulting in the sudden loss of oil while driving. Additionally, the provided examples of oil pan cracks were localized to the immediate vicinity of the oil drain plug and/or appeared to be the result of direct-contact with a tool during servicing.  there is no information to support that a vehicle-based defect exists relating to the oil pan assembly, and instead the documented incidents are related to the failure to follow the proper maintenance procedures during oil change service. In october 2023, hyundai published a technical service bulletin (tsb) that provided detailed instructions for oil change service on its gasoline powered vehicles, specifically highlighting the need to remove and replace the existing drain plug gasket prior to reinstalling the drain plug. After a thorough review of the material submitted by the petitioner, the information already in nhtsas possession, and the potential risks to motor vehicle safety implicated by the petitioners allegations, nhtsa does not believe that a formal investigation is warranted. Therefore, the petition is denied. A federal register notice (frn) further detailing nhtsa’s reasons for denial of the petition will be published. I was backing out of a parking spot. As i tried to brake in order to slow down and turn my car around to leave the lot, the brake seemed to be stuck against the floor and wouldn't work, the steering wheel also locked, and i couldn't shift from reverse to drive or park. Before i knew it, my car had rolled back and came to a stop on a metal pole, causing moderate damage to the back corner of the driver's side.

Bought a 2019 kia soul+ and after hitting a few hundred miles outside the 60,000 warranty the engine dies to the point kia has to replace the whole engine.

The vehicle stalls when trying to pick up speed and when trying to accelerate from a traffic light or stop sign. The vehicle also gets stuck in park and the release button does not work and takes it takes a long time to get the car out of park when it is stuck. The signals also go out at any given time and this problem can last up to an hour.

The fuel injectors get stuck open causing the engine to flood with gas. One was diagnosed as faulty by moritz kia in hurst texas in october and they replaced it however they only replaced the faulty one l. Today a second one was diagnosed as faulty. So 2 out of the 4 fuel injectors were faulty on a car that's not even a year and a half old. I plan to replace all the original fuel injectors so it will not be a problem in the future however i believe this part is beyond just a accidentally faulty one. The chances of having half the injectors in one car be bad is unbelievable.

Driver contacted roadside assistance and vehicle was towed to parkside kia in knoxville, tn. Initial diagnostic indicated failed ignition coil on cylinder #1 at approximately 22,300 miles.

The contact depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle crashed into the driver's side rear of the other vehicle. The contact stated that the driver's side air bags, passenger's side air bags, and front and rear side curtain air bags in her vehicle failed to deploy. The contact stated that the other driver's air bags deployed. The contact stated that there was a passenger seated in the front passenger's seat, and also three passengers seated in the rear seat of the vehicle. The front seat passenger was uninjured. The driver's side rear seat passenger sustained back and neck injuries requiring medical attention. The rear middle seat passenger sustained injuries to his legs and knees. The contact stated that two days later the middle seat passenger had a hernia which was attributed to the crash which required medical attention. The passenger's side rear seat passenger was unable to communicate whether or not he was injured due to a medical condition. The driver sustained injury to the clavicle, right elbow, pain and pressure underneath her left breast, upper chest and upper back and neck pain, and migraine headaches requiring medical attention. A polce report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
