• Recall 232495 [USA]: A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
  Kia america, inc. (kia) is recalling certain 2016-2022 sorento, 2021-2022 sorento hybrid (hev), 2022-2023 sorento plug-in hybrid (phev), and 2017-2022 sportage vehicles equipped with a tow hitch harness installed as original equipment, or purchased as an accessory through a kia dealership. Debris and moisture accumulation on the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board (pcb) may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire.
  owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will inspect the vehicle, and, as necessary, replace the fuse and/or tow hitch harness module, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed august 11, 2023. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is sc249.

• Recall 206338 [USA]: An engine compartment fire can increase the risk of injury.
  Kia motors america (kia) is recalling certain 2017-2021 sportage and cadenza vehicles. The electrical circuit in the hydraulic electronic control unit (hecu) may short-circuit, which can cause a fire in the engine compartment.
  owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. Kia will notify owners, and dealers will replace certain fuses in the electrical junction box. Vehicles equipped with an electronic parking brake (epb) will also receive a hecu software update. Repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on april 30, 2021. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is sc206.

• Recall 2021187 [Canada]: Other
  Issue: on certain vehicles, the owner's manual is missing information for how a person can contact transport canada to report a safety concern. As of september 1, 2020, canadian regulations require all companies to provide this information in the owner's manual. Safety risk: this error does not affect vehicle safety. Corrective actions: this is not a recall. Kia has corrected the owner's manual for all new vehicles. Additionally, corrected owner's manuals are available to view on kia canada's website.

• Recall 2021123 [Canada]: Electrical
  Issue: on certain vehicles, a problem in the control module for the antilock brake system (abs) could cause it to short circuit. Note: this recall does not affect vehicles equipped with smart cruise control (scc). Safety risk: a short circuit could create a fire risk. Corrective actions: kia will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install new abs fuse(s) and, on certain models, update the hydraulic electronic control unit (hecu) software. Kia recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

• Hyundai and kia abs module fires investigation as of 20231117

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has received eight hyundai motor america (hyundai) and eight kia america, inc. (kia) part 573 recall reports between 2016 and 2023. The combined 16 safety recalls all involve the antilock braking system (abs) modules or hydraulic electronic control units (hecu) manufactured by the equipment supplier mando. The part 573 recall reports contain varying defect descriptions and differing remedy descriptions for the same or similar equipment supplied by mando. Safety recalls included in this audit query (aq) review include: hyundai recalls 20v-520, 20v-543, 21v-161, 21v-160, 21v-303, 22v-056, 22v-810, and 23v-651. Kia recalls 16v-815, 20v-518, 20v-519, 21v-137, 21v-331, 22v-051, 22v-800, and 23v-652 the purpose of this aq is to evaluate the timeliness and scoping of hyundai and kia’s defect decision making and adherence with reporting requirements; and understand the varying defect descriptions and remedies between these recalls.

• Loss of motive power investigation as of 20220912

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has received a petition on july 13, 2022, requesting a defect investigation into an alleged defect of the "oil drain pan assemblies" on the following 83 models/model year vehicles stated by the petitioner: 2006-2019 hyundai sonata, 2013-2018 hyundai santa fe sport, 2010-2012 and 2019-2020 hyundai santa fe, 2010-2015 and 2018-2019 hyundai tucson, 2011-2021 kia sportage 2005-2020 kia optima, 2011-2020 kia sorento, 2010-2013 kia forte, 2010-2013,kia forte coup, and 2007-2010 kia rondo vehicles equipped with the 1.6l t-gdi gamma, 2.4l theta ii gdi, 2.4l in-line gdi theta ii, kappa, and 3.8l v-shaped gdi lambda-ii engines. The petition also cites additional hyundai/kia vehicles that use similar drain pan assemblies as the above-mentioned vehicles as having drain pan assembly failures. The petitioner provided subject and peer vehicles information related to alleged engine failures. The petition itself can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11481745.According to the petition, the hyundai/kia vehicle owners have made allegations of oil leakage failures occurring at highway speeds, without malfunction, indicator lights, or the leakage associated with under-tightening an oil drain plug, or a plug or pan with damaged thread. The alleged defects are causing engines to seize and loss of motive power. A defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition. The petitioner identified a number of complaints received by nhtsa alleging complete engine failure from a variety of models stated above along with other models. The contact's wife owns a 2021 kia sportage. The contact stated that while he was driving in another vehicle following his wife's vehicle, the contact noticed that his wife's rear turn signals were not visible since the rear turn signal headlights were mounted on the bumper and was too low to be visible for larger vehicles such as a suv following from behind. The dealer was made aware of the issue but informed the contact that they could not modify the rear turn signal assembly since it would void the warranty. The contact attempted to notify the manufacturer of the issue but could not connect with a live representative. The contact had not experienced a failure. The contact was concerned about the design of the rear taillight assembly. There was no failure.

The right rear passenger door does not unlock when putting the car in park intermittently! This occurs from the inside and outside. I realize i can disengage using my unlock feature but this should not happen. We have checked the child safety lock and it is not engaged! I can also tell you that my daughter-in-law has a 2019 sorrento and my sister-in-law has a 2016 sportage and both vehicles experience the identical issue!

I have owned 3 kias and all 3 have had recalls. Kia has never contacted me and dealership has told me it's not involved if you didn't receive info. As things started to go wrong like abs sensor lite going on and off dealer said nothing they could do unless they could get a code while it was on so i had to drive the car with the issue until it stayed on consitently so they could figure it out. This happened on 2 vehicles in a row. My husband traded his in for a truck and got away from kia. I traded in and ended up with a 2021 with less than 6000 miles at this point. I have contacted kia headquarters still have no idea what the recall is for. All i have heard is on the news advising not to park car inside or near house due to chance of car catching fire. At this point i have not used the car in about 2 weeks i'm afraid to, but i have a lovely lawn ornament that cost me over 500 a month. I would like kia to buy back the car so i can get something i have trust in like a chevy. Never had a recall on that in fourty years. Will never buy anything but america made again.
