  • Recall 2021170 [Canada]: Structure
Issue: on certain vehicles, the plastic panel located between the windshield and the panoramic sunroof may not have been attached correctly during a prior service repair. Over time, the panel could loosen and separate from the vehicle. Safety risk: a panel that detaches from a moving vehicle could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: mercedes-benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front roof panel.

  • Recall 2018724 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (quebec, new brunswick, nova scotia, prince edward island, and newfoundland & labrador), the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear housing may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. The resulting increase in steering effort could create the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the mounting bolts and apply a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing and bolts. If the bolts bolt cannot be removed, a replacement steering gear will be installed.

  • Recall 2018541 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
On certain vehicles, the seat belt latch plate in the second seating row outboard seats might retract into the area between the c-pillar paneling and the rear side paneling. This could hinder the access to the seat belt latch plate for the outboard seat occupants. If a rear seat passenger does not fasten the seat belt, the risk of injury in the event of a crash could increase. Correction: dealers will add a buffer element to the c-pillar paneling. Note: this is an expansion of recall 2018-136.

  • Recall 2018136 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
On certain vehicles, the seat belt latch plate in the second seating row outboard seats might retract into the area between the c-pillar paneling and the rear side paneling. This could hinder the access to the seat belt latch plate for the outboard seat occupants. If a rear seat passenger does not fasten the seat belt, the risk of injury in the event of a crash could increase. Correction: dealers will add a buffer element to the c-pillar paneling.

  • Recall 2017645 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 108 - lighting system and retroreflective devices. During the manufacturing process, the aim of the led headlamps may have been incorrectly adjusted, which could cause them to fail to meet the requirements of the standard. Improperly aimed headlamps may reduce night time forward visibility, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will check the headlamp adjustment on the affected vehicles and adjust it, if necessary.

  • Recall 2017490 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles, electrostatic discharge, when combined with a broken clock spring and insufficient grounding of the steering components, could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver's frontal airbag. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants. Correction: dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components. Note: a broken clock spring would result in a driver airbag warning message appearing in the instrument cluster, as well as a red airbag warning lamp illuminating.

  • Recall 2017062 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles, the starting current limiter could be overloaded under certain conditions. In the event the starter is blocked, a very high electric current could flow through the starting current limiter during repeated engine starting attempts. The high electric draw could cause the starting current limiter to overheat causing the surrounding components to melt which would increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction : dealers will install an additional fuse in the electrical line to the starter.

  • Recall 2016115 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, the wiring harness for the steering column switch module may have been incorrectly routed during manufacturing. This could cause the harness to chafe on the steering column adjustment, which could affect or cause one or more of the following systems to fail: turn signals, gear selector, electric power steering (eps) or electronic stability control functions. Additionally, this condition could potentially cause the engine to stall, and could affect proper airbag deployment or cause an airbag to deploy inadvertently. These potential outcomes in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will inspect, repair and reroute the wiring harness as necessary.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation as of 20210917

From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede ea15-001, which remains open.

Putting this car into park will normally automatically set the parking brake. Earlier that day, it did not set the brake. I assumed i must have hit some button or something on my dash to cause that. But then on the freeway, the car (for want of a better term) started wiggling and i found it hard to control it with the steering wheel. It stopped doing that for a few seconds, and then immediately happened again. As i started to change lanes to move toward the right side of the freeway, it did it a third time but it was worse and i had no control at all. It was moving toward the right but out of control and went up on an embankment and then back down again. When i looked into it, i realized it was doing exactly what is described in a recall for this make, model and year when the electronic stability program control goes bad. But my vin is not in the series that was recalled. Perhaps it is worth looking as to whether the vin numbers should be expanded, especially if other vehicles are having this problem. I was lucky. All other cars managed to swerve out of my way as i went across the lanes of traffic, but i could have been killed. You asked if there was a police report. I don't remember what they took down. But there was calif hwy patrol there, a fire truck, and an ambulance. And auto club has the information. *tr

I bought a new 2016 model (feb. 2016), around nov 2016, the rotors started making squeaking noise when backing up, so i took to dealer to diagnose. At first, they couldn't find the issue but after reading on the merc forum, i took the car back to dealer (jan. 2017), asked to check the rotors (not just the breaks), found the issue and i paid for this repair. Fast forward, jan 2018, brought the car back because the same squeaking sound came back. I called merc customer service, s/w "irene", and she said they are aware of the issue and she will work with dealer to see if they can fix w/o fee. So long story short, neither the dealer nor merc are willing to admit that this is a known issue and won't pay for the repair. They are willing to give me "15%" discounts. So, i am writing to ask for your help, please let me know if other owners have same issue, should this be an overall recall?

I received a recall notice from mercedes in march 2017 stating that the starting limiter may overheat resulting in fire. As of this date, july 13, 2017, mercedes has no idea when it will have the part (s). This is unacceptable.

Brakes and brake rotors screech excessively when moving from park, forward or backwards and while braking at stop lights and stop signs. Reported to dealer and mercedes - no action. Concerned that brakes may fail at a critical time or that rotors will be damaged beyond repair and cause failure. *tr

I got my brand new mercedes benz glc 300 two weeks ago. After driving for 6 days & less than 300 miles in total the suv stopped responding abruptly in the middle of highway cruising at a speed of 70 mph with a transmission malfunction error flashing. With no power in the car, i was lucky enough to pull it from the left most lane to the right curb but it was extremely scary to experience the situation of an irresponsive car in the middle of highway while the car is moving. All the lights on the dial were lit up with a transmission malfunction error in red. Tried to shut off the car using the on/off push button but it did not respond. After opening & closing the driver side door, tried to shut down the car again & the engine revved up. It was surprising as things were acting opposite. I am having safety concerns with this new car, if it stops in the middle of traffic again & if we would be lucky next time to pull over safely. The suv is at my dealership for the last one week. They have cited some faulty transmission parts as the cause of the problem.
