  • Recall 70625 [USA]: A broken control arm can result in the loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Subaru is recalling certain model year 2002-2007 impreza, model year 2003-2008 forester, and model year 2005-2006 saab 9-2x vehicles manufactured from september 5, 2000 through november 26, 2007 originally sold, or currently registered in, massachusetts, maryland, michigan, new hampshire, new york, pennsylvania, vermont, wisconsin, connecticut, delaware, iowa, illinois, indiana, maine, minnesota, missouri, new jersey, ohio, rhode island, west virginia and the district of columbia. The front lower control arms may break at the hanger brackets due to corrosion if the hanger bracket is exposed to salty and humid environments such as roads containing snow melting agent.
subaru will handle their vehicles and saab will handle theirs. Dealers will inspect the degree of corrosion of the front lower control arms, and will either rustproof or replace them. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during december 2011. Owners may contact subaru at 1-800-782-2783. Owners may contact saab at 1-800-955-9007.
this is subaru's safety recall number wvx-34.Owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.Safercar.Gov .

  • Recall R/2011/146 [UK]: Lower control arms may fail
The front transverse links (lower control arms) may corrode leading to possible breakage if left without treatment.
either additional rust proofing or replacement of the transverse links will be performed according to the degree of corrosion.

  • Recall R/2015/112 [UK]: Passenger side airbag may fail to deploy correctly
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag the subject propellant wafers could cause the inflator to rupture with metal fragments striking and potentially seriously injuring the vehicle occupants.
on affected vehicles replace passenger front air bag inflator.

  • Recall 2020001 [Canada]: Airbag
Issue: this recall is for certain vehicles that had an airbag inflator replaced as a part of an earlier recall campaign. This recall provides a final repair. Long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety risk: if the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective actions: owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the passenger-front airbag inflator. The passenger-front airbag module or inflator will be replaced as necessary. Note: the canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.

  • Recall 2017020 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.

  • Recall 2011344 [Canada]: Suspension
On certain vehicles, the front lower control arms could corrode due to exposure to humid environments and road de-icing chemicals. Over time, corrosion could progress causing thinning and perforation of the steel, which could allow the control arm to fracture near the forward pivot attachment to the chassis. Lower control arm failure could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect the front lower control arms and, depending on the degree of corrosion exhibited, will either rustproof or replace them.

  • Recall 2008333 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.5l turbo engine, the oil supply pipe to the turbocharger may crack at the stay brazing on the cylinder head-side. If the pipe cracks it will allow oil to leak and if the leaking oil contacts components operating at high temperatures, an engine compartment fire could occur. Correction: dealers will replace the cracked pipe with a modified unit or if no crack is found an additional bracket will be installed to increase the rigidity of the pipe.

To ensure accuracy and for your safety, it is recommended to do a free VIN recall check here or here [USA] - UK - Canada.

While driving down the road(luckily at 35 mph) the brake pedal went straight to the floor. I down shifted and used the ebrake and stopped safely and noticed a puddle under the car in front of the passenger side rear tire. After getting the vehicle home safely, and checking things out, i noticed the 4 way connector (recalled under campaign# wqk-47) was severely rusted and looks as though it had never been addressed. Then, while looking up the part, i noticed there was a recall, but not on my specific year and model, even though the surrounding models and years were recalled. Perhaps this was overlooked? Or the amount of unmodified surviving wrx's didn't peticularly justify a recall on that model? Either way, it could potentially be a dangerous situation. This is also an incredibly involved fix. The part on the 06-07 impreza wrx is the exact same part that was recalled on the 05-08 outbacks and legacys. I will be calling subaru of america today and hopefully they will be able to help me out. But you guys should have them notify any 06-07 wrx owners in the rust belt that this might be a potential safety hazard! Feel free to call me at [xxx]for any further explanation! Thanks, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.S.C. 552(b)(6). *tr

Brandon, the service advisor at subaru of santa cruz, attended to my service and repair needs i had in july of 2017, however not the airbag recall. When i entered the service area i went over my concerns with the vehicle and what services i needed. I also asked brandon to look up and take care of the airbag recall for the vehicle. He said that he would check that out for me. I left the vehicle for a few days and came back to pick it up. I figured airbag recalls are top priorities at subaru and that everything was remedied. After leaving the dealer i took a closer look at the 5 pages of cryptic paperwork that brandon had handed me and found no mention of the recall repair. 16 people have died as a result of this defect as of 3/17. I am complaing that this oversight by subaru of santa cruz, having my vehicle in their possesion and not taking care of the safety issue is unacceptable.

Takata recall - i received a safety recall notice regarding a takata-sourced passenger side frontal airbag. The manual that i received with my 2007 subaru impreza states that i have two (2) airbags (driver's and front passenger's frontal airbags) the notice states that parts are not currently available..We'll notice you again when they are. It also states..Until this is performed, do not allow passengers to ride in the front passenger seat...It should also state " do not ride in the driver's seat". I need to ride in the driver's seat to secure groceries, supplies, and dr. Appointments. I sometimes have passengers with me. I did not purchase the vehicle to park it in the garage. Using the 800-782-2783 number for subaru of america there is a recording with a full mailbox..No way to leave a message that i request and demand a corrected notice that i have 2 takata airbags in my vehicle and i want them replaced as soon as possible. The airbags in my vehicle are long past the expiration date of approximately 6 years with the chemical breaking down due to humidity and temperature fluctuations. It is unacceptable to issue an incorrect recall notice and unacceptable to stall on the replacement of these faulty airbags. Your website states that over 9,000,000 airbags have been replaced, but mine have not been replaced. If they have to work day and night to get corrected airbags available, then so be it. I sent an email to the service dept. Of timmons subaru and volkswagen of long beach, ca today advising the above. Thank you for your attention to this issue. Takata recall we received the recall at the beginning of august. We were told when we called the dealership that it would be ready to repair in september. It now seems there is no answer as to when the repair can be completed.

Takata recall - i finally received acknowledgement from subaru of america that i have two airbags..Takata-sourced passenger side frontal airbag and toyoda gosei driver-side airbag located in the center of the steering wheel. The safety recall notice that i received indicates that they will only be replacing the takata-sourced passenger side frontal airbag when parts are available...Possibly not until feruary, 2017. Timmons subaru where i purchased the subaru stated that they will pay for a rental car, but will not pay for the insurance on the rental car...Totally unacceptable. I'm requesting that both manufacturers airbags be removed and do not want them replaced...It's only a matter of time before toyoda gosei's airbags are exploding either before deployment or upon deployment as arc's did recently. Is it possible that you could secure the information on the type of propellent that toyoda gosei is using in their airbags. Thank you for your attention to these issues.

Takata recall: how long is this going to take? My wife is ready to buy a new car but we are unsure about how this recall hanging over the subaru impreza is going to affect our ability to sell or trade in the car. We assume the car can't be sold in this condition, and that's a burden. Please advise: [email protected]

I received the notification about the recall in july 2016. It is now 10/31/16 and i am old that the new airbags are not available. I have been told that i will receive a letter when my car can be repaired, but i have not received anything to date. I am concerned that if there is impact or if weather conditions impact the defective airbag that shrapnel can be released and can be fatal to passenger(s). I cannot carry passengers in my vehicle and i am also concerned for my own well being driving my vehicle. *tr

Takata recall subaru sent a recall notice in july 2016 indicating that "subaru is in the process of acquiring parts necessary to perform this repair". Meaning that they are not presently able to perform the repair. "until this repair is performed, do not allow passengers to ride in the front passenger seat." this is entirely impractical. I did not purchase a subaru to drive it with no one else in the front seat! I need subaru to either repair the defect in a timely fashion, or to provide me with an alternate form of transportation.

Wipers aren't fast enough in heavy rain or light rain at highway speeds. Vehicle is low enough to the ground that spray from other cars makes it impossible to see. Even with bosch wiper blades. The speed simply isn't enough, even a new wiper motor is too slow. It's like driving in a whiteout.

I replaced the battery on 7/11/15. I needed a smog certificate this month for my registration renewal and my vehicle would not pass for certification. I had driven the vehicle over 700 miles after battery replacement and was told that i needed to drive it an additional 50 to 100 miles non-stop to reset the vehicle to pass the inspection. I asked at the dealership can't you reset the vehicle here so that all this driving and mileage is not required, the dealership stated no. The volkswagen have a reset button on a panel but not the subaru or any other vehicles. All vehicles should have a reset button and they should be recalled to implement this feature. All vehicles manufactured in the future should have that feature. This incident occurred 11/3/15 thru 11/5/15 having to spend $35.00 additional in gasoline and driving on the congested freeways to reset the vehicle after battery replacement. Left and right cylinder head gaskets were blown at 41,295 miles. Low mileage for this type of major engine failure. At 56,976 miles the ignition coil, spark plugs and ignition cables required replacement due to mis-fire condition associated with a cracked ignition coil. The exact same failure occurred at 81,856 miles. Both failures were accompanied by blinking check engine lamps requiring the vehicle be towed to the dealer for repair. Repeat failure of major components reflects persistent defects in design or manufacture.

Purchased car august 20th. August 24th, 2013 on the way back from pa on 80 east my check engine light came on. Problem was diagnosed as cam position timing over advance or system performance b1 and b2. Code was P0011 and P0021. Wednesday september 11th, 2013 the car was taken to subaru world of newton to be fixed. Needed new cam sprockets and timing belt, along with the timing belt the timing belt tensioner was changed and a small oil leak was plugged with an oil change. That all came out to around 1,500 and that was after negotiating. Monday september 16th, 2013 my check engine light came on and with it had rough idling. Thursday september 19th, 2013 i had the code read and the code P0301 came up which was a cylinder 1 misfire. The code was reset to see if it would reoccur and tuesday september 24th, 2013 the check engine came back on with the same code. I then planned on going to subaru world of newton on saturday the 28th. On friday the 27th i was driving to the mall in rockaway, nj 20 minutes from my house and i started to feel power loss. On the way home from the mall the power loss continued and about 30 seconds from the sparta exit my engine made a knocking noise like something sprung loose and my engine cut off and the car shut off, with no power steering i had to get across the lanes to pull over and wait for a tow truck. Today september 30th the car is sitting at subaru because the diagnostic fee 1-2,000$ and approximate cost for parts and labor is 5-7,000$, total is 6-9,000$. *tr

I was at the dealership having a recall done for my front suspension a frames. (wvx34) and was told that the vehicle needed more extensive repairs as parts were corroded and could not be changed without being damaged. I was told subaru had refused to agree the repairs until their dpsm had seen the vehicle, he would be at the dealer in the next 4 weeks. I contacted the dealer on the 5th december to be told the rep would be in until the 18th december (i am out of the country then). I contacted subaru as i was disappointed with the service and the contacted the dealer and called me back on the 6th. I was told that the vehicle was dangerous and that the repairs were $5,000 worth and that i would have to pay as they had corrosion and that this wasn't part of the recall and the dpsm date was still the 18th. I would assume that if the a frames wee damaged due to corrosion and that the same corrosion had damaged other parts of the suspension then this would not be my liability. I am driving a dangerous vehicle (says the dealer to subaru but not me) and subaru not only don't care enough to inspect the vehicle as a matter of urgency but do not want to repair the vehicle. So the complaint is that the recall (wvx34) is just for a frames and the actual corrosion damage is much more extensive. *tr

My sister was driving my car while i was away. She was driving on the road when suddenly the car broke down. She had it towed to our independent mechanic. They stated that the head gasket blew. (soa mentioned to me that not a lot of people complained about it and they may reimburse me for my repair if i was at a subaru dealer, but since it was at my independent mechanic they have to review it and the parts are suppose to be original) i needed to replace that. Now it smells in the car sometimes (for instance after having heat on, and worse when it rains or snows). It also bucks uncontrollably when coming to a stop. I was told to have a subaru dealer check it out even though it's no more on the warranty. Also, when i bought my car the window defrosters on the back window were damaged. They stated to me that it was my fault that it was damaged and i should repair it out of my own pocket. I don't recommend a subaru to any person, and honestly i don't like their customer service. They only want to receive money and not help people when they have problems. Like other people mentioned. Since the head gasket blew. My car keeps breaking down. I have a toddler. By the oil sensor gauge it keeps breaking and my car starts smoking. My mechanic told me if i kept driving the car would have caught on fire due to the hot oil underneath the hood. I found out i need to repair the head gasket again the second time. Since it was changed the first time my check engine and cruise control keep turning on when i have low rpms, and am in stop and go traffic and high rpms. There are so many people that have this problem and subaru told me they will pay for damages that they own up to. For my head gasket i only received over $200 which it cost me almost $1500. They don't acknowledge all the other material that went into fixing the head gasket like oil and etc. This is the second time in 2 years i will be fixing the head gasket. *tr

The subaru of america dealership would not pay for a ecu replacement at the subaru dealership i brought the 2007 impreza outback sport to. Oil leak started, and was pooling on top of engine. Took car to get repaired, was told gasket would need replacement. Upon starting repairs, it was discovered that heli-coil had been over torqued supposedly during installation and due to over torquing, had become stripped resulting in a loose bolt and oil was able to leak out. The failure caused oil to leak out at a catastrophic rate, which could potentially cause engine fire and/or damage to catalytic converter. Old coil was taken out, threads came out with it (demonstrating over torquing), and new coil was installed. Threads from coil are available. *tr

I was making a slow speed (~25 mph) left turn with my 2007 subaru impreza 2.5i station wagon on a dimly lit intersection at night during the rain. I was able to exit the car, and spoke with a witness who was able to call the police department. To whom it may concern, i don't know if the nhtsa is someone that can help, but i figure i would try. I'm at my wits end. I have a 2007 subaru wrx four door sedan. In april of 2008 i was driving my car in a 35 mile per hour zone and shifted my manual transmission from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. It popped out of gear when i began accelerating. Needless to say the car was undrivable and i had to have it towed to my nearest subaru dealership, brown pontiac, subaru here in amarillo tx. They tore the transmission apart to find that the third gear was "stripped" out and not covered under warranty. They said i had abused my car. It was and still is in great condition. I paid $908.00, half the repair cost to get my one and only car out of the shop. Last tuesday, 8-5-08, i was driving my car again. I shifted from 1st gear to 2nd gear. I could not put it in 2nd gear so, i didn't force it. I let the clutch out and reengaged it. I hear a bang in the transmission and it was over. Today, almost a week later, the same subaru dealership, brown, called me and said 2nd gear was "stripped" out of it, just like 3rd gear. No one was injured in these incidents. There are several subaru wrx owners with the same transmission problems. Soa "subaru of america", refuse to think they may have a defect part or parts in there transmissions, or that their transmissions will fail. I'm facing a $3000.00 repair bill.
