  • Recall 2005151 [Canada]: Suspension
On certain vehicles, a manufacturing issue with the front lower ball joint could result in premature wear. If the vehicle is operated for an extended period of time in this condition, the ball joint may eventually experience excessive wear and looseness, resulting in increased steering effort, reduced vehicle self-centering and noise in the front suspension. In extreme cases, when the driver continues to operate the vehicle in this condition, the lower ball joint may separate from the knuckle causing a loss of vehicle steering control. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the front lower ball joints.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Frame corrosion investigation as of 20180817

On august 13, 2018, the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) received a letter dated august 7, 2018, petitioning the agency to investigate frame corrosion in model year (my) 2002 through 2006 toyota 4runner vehicles. The petitioner alleges that while he was traveling on a two-lane highway in his 2005 4runner "without warning, the steering/suspension system separated from the frame due to excessive frame corrosion," resulting in difficulty controlling the vehicle. The petitioner initially reported the failure to nhtsa in a may 26, 2018 complaint (voq 11098055). The petition alleges that the incident he experienced resulted from excessive and premature corrosion and cites as evidence: 1) other complaints of "premature and excessive frame corrosion" in 2002 through 2006 4runner vehicles that he identified in nhtsas on-line complaint database; and 2) a recent class-action settlement involving "1.5 million tacoma, tundra and sequoia trucks also built on a frame," which he alleges did not include the 4runner vehicles "simply because there were insufficient complaints known to the counsel representing the class at the time it was formed."the petition scope includes third (my 1996-2002) and fourth (my 2003-2009) generation toyota 4runner vehicles. A preliminary analysis of available complaints and field reports by nhtsas office of defects investigation (odi) has identified no crashes or injuries related to corroded frame or suspension components in these vehicles.Odi will evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision.

I recently had my vehicle in for service and to get new tires. While on the lift, the mechanic pointed out to me that the frame on the passenger's side is beginning to rust through. This is an obvious potential safety issue and as i have researched possible repairs, it appears that this is a very common problem for this year and model. This should be recalled.

When i had my state inspection in january of 2020, the machanic told me the frame of the vehicle will not pass inspection again. It is severely rusted through and in his opinion is unsafe to drive. A few weeks later, i was travelling to my father's residence and the brakes gave out. The technician that repaired my brake line also told me and documented on the bill that the truck is really not safe to drive. I have owned this vehicle for 18 years, and only driven it five winters. I wash the truck numerous times during the winter to remove salt. It is my only vehicle, and i cannot afford a new one. Why wasn't this included in the frame recall from toyota?!? Now i'm nervous about my safety and those on the roadways.

The frame is rusted out and is making the vehicle unsafe to be on the road. This is a known problem with this frame, it's already been recalled on the toyota tacoma and it's the same identical frame. It should have been recalled years ago. Just making a normal turn on a bend in the road makes it difficult to keep the vehicle under control.

I purchased the 2002 4runner in 2014. At that time, the 4runner only had 79,000 miles and had been cared for meticulously. I have taken the car in for routine service over the past 5 years. Upon taking the 4runner in due to a vibration and check of the differential, the mechanic called me in to look at the frame while it was up on the lift. Below in the attached photos, there is extensive rusting of the rear differential, axle and frame. The vehicle was stationary and the issue was found during routine maintenance. The rusted frame and differential have rendered this vehicle practically valueless and unsafe.

Very excessive rusting and corrosion on the frame near where the leading arm attaches on the passenger side. Hole has developed very quickly, only in the span of a couple years. When going around left corner >15mph, a clunking noise can be heard from the problem area. Very occasionally a similar noise can be heard when going through right turns. Vehicle has spent most of its life in southern minnesota, although some time has been spent in south florida. Repair will be necessary soon, as i'm starting to not feel safe driving long distances or at highway speeds (70+ mph). Thank you, have a nice day. *tr

I have a 2002 toyota 4runner with a severely rusted frame. My vehicle has less than 70k original miles on it, no body rust, but an extremely rusted undercarriage and frame. I feel it is unsafe to continually drive with this problem, as it will only get worse and could affect other components such as steering, suspension, brakes, etc. Seeing as how toyota has already had a class action lawsuit against their trucks of the same year for unsafe rusted frames, i feel my 4runner should be included in the frame replacement recall.

I was doing an oil change and noticed that the frame was rusted very badly . I think that there should be a recall on this model 3rd gen 4runner (1999-2002)this is the same frame as the truck that was recalled ,so this should be included .If this frame breaks it will hurt or kill some one .

We purchased a 4runner for our 18 year old daughter to drive thinking it would be safe, esp in mn. She was driving home from college (130 miles) and noticed it had a bad vibration, especially over 40 mph. It was very difficult to drive. We were out of town and when we got back, brought it to the shop, only to be told the frame was responded beyond repair (see photos). Not only does that scare me for my daughter, but she has been driving it a few years and had friends and other family members in the vehicle. The vehicle has relatively low miles for it's age and based on toyotas reputation of longevity, we never expected this sort of issue. We're thankful she wasn't hurt, but are concerned about others driving a vehicle and not knowing it could literally break in half while driving down the road!

I have seen classi. Cars from the 60s with frames in better shape than my 4runner. The rear control arms brackets are close to detaching from the frame. Rust is eating the back half of my frame. The frame rails are completely rusted through and will soon need replacing. There are numerous bolts and hardware that can no longer be used due to rust. The fill plug on the rear differential has rusted away as well. The quality of this steel is absolutely horrible. Toyota should be ashamed of a vehicle that has problems like this. I have never seen rust this bad on a frame before.

First, the motor blew for no reason at 152,000 miles. I rebuilt the car and had a new motor put in. I was not aware of the rusting frame issue, however, after driving the vehicle with a lovely new rebuilt motor for about one year, the frame rotted beyond repair causing the power steering to go out. I don't drive much, so there was no excessive exposure to salt. The car was parked in my driveway. It was an exceptionally cold day. I started the vehicle and found the power steering fluid had frozen and lost all the fluid as a result of the steering rack being rusted and weakened. The repair shop told me that the frame and rocker panels are severely compromised too badly to bother fixing the steering rack. The car is not safe to drive.

My 2002 toyota 4 runner failed mass state inspection due to emergency brake not engaging. I immediately brought the vehicle to a local auto shop for repair. I was then notified by the shop that the entire frame was completely rotted & unsafe to drive. They refused to do any repair to the e-brake until the frame was repaired. I have a 2002 4 runner and put almost $2,800.00 in it last year for a new rear end, new tires, because i felt it still had a tremendous amount of life left in it, only to find out that the frame has 2 holes in it from excessive rust. The dealership i took it to informed me that they were currently in the process of replacing frames for 2003 - 2009 models. When i asked about the 2002 models, they stated that toyota does not assume responsibility for the 4 runners. My question is "how do i find out if the 2002 frames were manufactured with the same materials that the 2003 models were made of?" i really wanted to hand this car down to my daughter. She needs a car and with the current situation of the frame, there is no way i can let her drive this in its current condition. Please help!!!

Leaving work friday of labor day weekend 2018 i noticed the smell of gas. My co-worker also looked, and observed a puddle of gasoline under the car. Since the dealer was close, i took the risk to drive it the dealer. The dealer is heritage toyota in baltimore maryland. The car has only 91000 miles on it. The entire bottom of the car is rusted out. This is what caused the fuel leak. The frame is also rusted out to the point of not being safe anymore. My complaints are these: 1. The underside of the car completely rusted out. 2. Other toyota trucks of the same year are having their frames replaced by toyota. 3. My toyota was serviced with me letting the dealer do "anything it needs". I estimate spending about $15,000 at this dealer. Never once was i told there was a rust problem. With mounting repaired costs, i took it to another mechanic who immediately recommended that i take the car to the dealer for assessment. Never did the toyota dealer warn me about the rust. 4. Toyota was completely uninterested in helping. I did file a complaint #1808271490

Frame rust on the inside portion for the frame. 33" hole rusted through completely on passenger side. Rust continues about 80% of the way through the rear lower control arm mount. Driver's side has a similar amount of severe rust that has weakened the structural integrity of the frame to the point where it is no longer safe to drive. Should the co troll arm mount finish rusting through, the axle will no longer be attached to the frame on that side. There is noticble flex and sound associated with the frame rot. It is only a matter of time before the control arm mount disconnects completely, or the frame buckles.

(see photo). All four tires were properly inflated per toyota's specifications. Fortunately, the stability control kept the vehicle from crashing. I was at a full stop, behind a line of cars, at a red light, on a city street. A jeep liberty suv rear-ended me at approximately 30 mph, pushing me into the car in front of me, and totaling my vehicle. My shoulder belt did not lock in place, causing me to hit, and crack, the windshield, with the left frontal aspect of my skull, resulting in a concussion. The driver of the vehicle that ran into me, was taken by ambulance to the hospital. While my car was at the collision repair center, before it was taken to salvage, i went to gather my belongings that were inside my 4runner. At the recommendation of my local toyota dealer service manager, i repeatedly tested both the driver, and front passenger shoulder belts, by abruptly and rapidly pulling on them. The driver side belt only locked in place once, during approximately 10 trials. The passenger shoulder belt locked in place every time.

NoNoN NoneNone20170917

I have owned my 2002 4runner since i bought it new in 2002. Around 8,500 miles a year, and somehow my frame is completely rusted out. This is not normal, and now it won't pass inspection and is unsafe to drive. Toyota bought the frames from a third party in japan which did not coat these frames properly. We undercoated the car for 5 years after buying it, and yet rust started showing up around 2009. We have taken care of the car, everything except the frame is perfect and clean. Toyota is knowingly letting 3rd generation 4runners drivers drive their cars even when they're unsafe. They need to institute a buyback or frame replacement program. We don't know what to do now, because we can't drive or sell the vehicle, yet everything runs perfectly.

Frame rust. Only has 63,000 miles on it and my mechanic recently noticed heavy scaling and rust, also a few holes/rotted sections. Toyota needs a service campaign, or recall these frames, as they did with the tacoma. I called toyota and they said it's our problem when this is a clear common issue. The other common issue on these frames, is at the back shackle, that attaches the control arm to the rear end, rots right off. I fear for my safety that something will fail and cause an accident. The frame of this 4runner has been experiencing excessive rust since the time i got it used from a dealer. Once their undercoating wore off, my mechanic replaced rusted up brake lines back about 9 years ago. He said it was because the frame was very rusty and they did a new rust treatment. For the past few years i have been battling issues related to the frame. A plate was put in to strengthen an area. It only has 164k on it, i rebuilt the transmission at 125k, and the body is in good shape. Just that the rust is spreading everywhere underneath. We tried to get it addressed in the previous toyota frame recall but it was not for this age for whatever reason. Every repair has been more difficult due to rusting bolts, mufflers rusting early, brake lines busting due to rust, the tow hitch rusted through. Now there is a gaping hole in the rear side of the frame supporting the cab. After being under the car trying to scrape rust off, and to put some rust restore/protection, i saw the new hole and got fed up. So i see you are now investigating this year 4runner to add to their recall. Please...Do! Something serious could happen while driving it and it will just stay mostly parked until this is resolved. Brake failure when my son was driving was already scary enough. Thank you.

Driver's seat left front mounting bolt attachment has failed. Problem was first noticed on 15 march 2016. Vehicle was stationary. As i was shifting around to get seated i noticed a grinding sound coming from beneath the driver's seat. Eventually i observed the left front mount lifting slightly off the floor. Later, investigating further (removing the plastic covering) i was able to remove the mounting bolt'there is nothing for the bolt to attach to that i can see. Whatever held the bolt originally has broken off and is no longer visible or serviceable. This is a critical safety concern for me; all the more so because i was recently diagnosed with three bulging discs in my neck at the san francisco va medical center on 8 march 2016. Should i be in a collision and the seat not perform as intended, i could potentially be paralyzed. This is a safety concern. Toyota should be required to perform a safety recall for this problem.

Further investigation uncovered a larger area of rust along the 3 welds on the inner frame rail. Cut / ground the metal back to good metal and am in the process of patching for my yearly maine vehicle inspection. Either toyota has built an inferior frame or the newer chemicals being used to keep the roads clear in the winter to be the cause of this rust which could cause the rear suspension to fail at this point in the frame and cause a accident.

My frame is rotting out. I just had to replace my rear axle because it had almost rotted through. It was actually weaping gear oil out of small holes through the rot. Some of the frame had to be welded to pass inspection.

Frame and some suspension parts are very rusted, frame has holes and is becoming unsafe to drive. Vehicle is only 13 years old, only 100100 miles. Passenger side front suspension pop's when stressed in cornering. When at idle, you can hear the vibration from rust chunks in the frame. All heat shields rusted. Skid plates on front and fuel tank so rusted must remove. Now nothing is protecting the fuel tank.

Hello. I purchased a 2002 toyota 4runner limited edition last fall in pennsylvania. The car had passed the pennsylvania state inspection with passed validated inspection tags in the front window. I took the car to my mechanic, welder and beechmont toyota (cincinnati oh) and the consensus is the car needs the car frame replaced. The car frame has rust holes and is rusted along with a rusted undercarriage. The integrity of the car is compromised, because the car frame has rusted holes in it, criteria that should not have passed pa state inspection. It does not have a safe car frame. I was sold a vehicle that passed pa state inspection and the car had holes in the rusted car frame. The sales guy who sold me the car, said that the car had passed state inspection in which the sticker in the windshield shows. I researched the state inspection criteria and i think it is 5a and 5iii that reference checking the car frame. Pendot did not take any responsibility for their failure of approving the state inspection. I asked for my money back ($6,200) from the car salesman plus i had to pay about $500 ohio tax and was told that it had passed pennsylvania state inspection and they would not refund my money. This car has a rusted damaged frame with holes and needs to be off the road as it's dangerous. I am asking for my money back, and i'll return the vehicle as it should not have passed pennsylvania state inspection. Thank you. *tr

Frame has excessive rust and has holes in parts of it. The rest of the body and interior are in great condition. Engine runs well and there are otherwise no major mechanical issues. Upon having a minor repair done, inspection showed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive with the frame in that condition as it is about to crack in half. This seems to be prematurely failing compared to the rest of the vehicle.

Took vehicle for inspection, was told it needed to be welded. Took it took a welding shop, that does this type of work. We were then told by the gentlemen doing the work that it was the frame under the vehicle and didn't feel comfortable. Because he has heard of issues with 4runner rusting issues and said it would cost thousands of dollars to fix it. He knew we didn't have the funds to spend that kind of money. We have someone else who saw a photo of it and stated just from the pictures it would be over $2,000 to fix it. We feel that toyota should recall this. Just because it wasn't manufactured in the united states then in japan. Not a happy customer.

After buying this vehicle i was underneath vehicle to repair a axle seal leaking and found extensive frame rust on passenger rear of frame. By extensive i mean the frame was rusted completely through! I have lived in ohio all of my life and have never seen a vehicle with this mileage and of this year have such severe frame rust! After further inspection i noticed rear end housing was also severely rusted. The rust on the frame is severely perforated at point where trailing arm for the rear end attaches to the frame! I was not aware of this issue before buying vehicle but after some research have found that this is definitely a manufacturer defect of some sort! These vehicles are not safe to drive with these frames in this condition and toyota is aware of this!

My 2002 4runner was purchased brand new from toyota in november of 2001. I live in new york so it does snow 2 or 3 months out of the year. It has been used as a second vehicle to pick up supplies and the like, otherwise it is rarely used. At this time it has approx. 139000 miles. The truck would not start and i took it to a mechanic. I was told there is an extreme amount of rust under the vehicle, the undercarriage, the frame, the gas tank, etc. The problem is the fuel pump but because of so much rust, removing the gas tank to change the fuel pump may cause damage to the components connecting the tank to the frame of the vehicle. It is a shame that toyota sells a vehicle that may need to be junked due to the amount of rust it has. I understand that many other owners have the same problem with the 4runner and something should be done. I bought a 1999 camry brand new prior to the 4runner and i had it for 12 years before giving it to a friend who still drives it to this day and it has no rust. The 4runner runs great all of the years i have owned it but i am being told by my mechanic that it is possible the body of my truck could fall from the frame. At 139000 miles this should not be happening. Toyota should offer some kind of repair to these issues. My truck looks almost brand new except for some rust on the front and rear bumpers and now i may have to junk it. *tr

(there was no category offered for frame). During a recent automotive service for brakes on 9-26-13 for my 2002 toyota 4runner, i was notified of a rust perforation in the frame body near a rear support mount for the axle making it unsafe for operation. This is a situation where rust forms in the interior of the frame and works its way out destroying the structural integrity of the vehicle. It seems the service technician used to work at a toyota dealership and knew exactly where to look from his prior experience with other 4runner failures. The toyota dealer informed that this would not be covered. My ?02 4runner is from the same generation (3rd) and of similar design to the tacoma that was recalled for this the dealer instructed me to contact the torrance, ca toyota customer service as his dealership would be unable to assist in anyway. It was clear they had encountered this before. Through discussion with toyota ca they have no intention of providing any means of relief for a known and well documented safety problem. One rep did comment that the tundra and sequoia had been recently added to the recall but the 4runner was ?Not yet? On the recall list. It seems toyota views the products to be different due to the body style differences or us vs japanese built products. They also clearly have no intention to escalate internally. I was instructed to file a complaint with nhtsa and ntsb. Research on line shows that there is a very widespread issue that toyota is clearly choosing to ignore. Web information suggests that cold climate and the axle bracket in close proximity to the exhaust, are primary factors. How can you recall one model for a rusted frame due to safety but not another? Vibration from braking causing very decreased vehicle control posing very increased accident risk. Toyota four runner 02 limited, recurrence of pulsing brake pedal and very high vehicle vibration when braking. This occurs after short or long mountain descents at normal / posted highway speeds under normal passenger loads (not hauling), clear dry conditions. This is the second time this low mileage vehicle has experience this issue. First time, the front rotors were replaced at the dealer by the previous owners expense under 60k miles. The vehicle is driven at most 7k miles a year. The problem has returned over and over and poses a serious hazard to occupants and other highway travelers. Searching the web, there are numerous complaints of warped rotors which toyota dealers are saying is driver error / normal use. I have not driven this vehicle much and not hard. My use would qualify as normal highway travel. The vehicle was purchased by me in 2008 and i have replaced rotors every year. I have purchased the slotted rotors with ceramic as well as semi metallic with no benefit . Certainly the expense of again replacing rotors is concerning, but really, the amount of vibration and decreased control causes me to be very concerned for my, and others, safety. Even if the rotors are replaced, it seems very likely that the vibration and loss of control will return in a few thousand miles of normal use. I would like toyota to admit their vehicles have faulty assembly which causes excessive wear on pads and rotors. I now just took it in again, and this will be the 4th set of rotors, pads and rear drums! *tr

My 2002 toyota 4runner has a faulty throttle position sensor (part # 89452-35030) that causes loss of power while driving (at all speeds). *jb this loss of power is very dangerous as the car will be driving along at a stable speed and then suddenly just start slowing down even though my foot stays on the gas pedal. This loss of speed puts me at serious risk to be rear-ended by a car behind me or potentially get hit from the side as i am crossing an intersection. My mechanics and i have diagnosed the tps as the issue. This is a very common problem (there are multiple forums on the web about this). 1) stopped at stop sign with snow on the ground. Then accelerate turning onto another road. 2) vehicle can accelerate and move a few feet before the trac (traction control) system activates. The power to the engine is then cut off. At this point you are unable to move, stuck in the middle of an intersection. There is a few second delay before you can get any power back to the engine. Ultimately, you are left in the middle of the intersection with no power to the wheels waiting to see if another vehicle is going to t-bone you. I have had multiple, very close calls. Failure occurs every single time you try to accelerate from a stop and the system senses even a tiny loss of traction. The complete loss of accelerator function and delay until the return of power is very dangerous. 3) there is no fix. I was told there is no way to disable the trac system that is supposed to be a safety feature when in reality it is an extremely dangerous system. Toyota must think a little wheel spin is more dangerous than completely taking away the driver's ability to control their own vehicle i have driven vehicles that have trac and it does not function like it does on this particular vehicle. The system is severely overly sensitive and overly controlling. *tr

I am the original owner of a 2002 toyota 4runner-sr5, sport edition with 74,600k miles. In november 2009, i experienced the same problem that's being reported by other toyota owners whose vehicles are being recalled. The accelerator pedal stuck in a partially depressed position on its own and quite suddenly. This occurrence only happened once. The engine was racing at a very high rpm and my rear tires were squealing loud enough to draw attention from passersby. Luckily for me i was slowly pulling into a parking slot. My reaction to this situation was to put the gear in neutral and applied the brakes. My main concern is if the ongoing investigation by the nhtsa and toyota will include a look-back at earlier models for these known problems? And, if so, what is the manufacturer's recommendation to owners' with earlier models? *tr

I own a toyota 4 runner. While driving across country last fall i noticed that the truck would accelerate rapidly when i had cruise control on. The cruise control would kick in as it should have but it would accelerate very rapidly and felt out of control. Once it began the acceleration, it would never stop and level out to the appropriate speed as it should have. It would continue to accelerate. Braking worked in slowing the vehicle down, but it frightened me while i was driving. I do not use the cruise control now as a result of this. I was driving r/t from ca to denver, co and it happened several times during this trip. *tr

I have a 2002 toyota 4runner. It's under my wife's name but i am the one that's in charge of automotive issues. The bumpers have been hanging down on the front and rear. As i drive around the city, i've started to notice majority of the 4runners in the same model having the same issue. This makes me think that there is a defect. I believe it's a safety defect especially since bumpers are not just for cosmetic reasons, its highly effective in a crash situation. It's a safety issue because it is also linked to the airbag sensors and i am afraid that it may go off at any time. I've gone on forums and found that others talk about this also. They also talk about rusting around the bumper area which is something i have on my 4runner also. I hope your department looks into this matter thoroughly and get back to me about it. *tr

Vehicle is not handling right; body feels very loose and unstable going over bumps in the road. Took it to a toyota repair shop who indicated that front, right lower ball joint was loose, worn and needed to be replaced. That ball joint was already replaced by the dealer when purchased in 8/05 as part of the manufacturer's recall. Took vehicle back to the dealer where the work was originally done and after 3 hours they confirmed that the ball joint did need replacing. However there is only a 1 year warranty on the replacement and they wanted over $400 to replace it. So you're telling me that i get over 4 years on an allegedly defective ball joint but only 2 years on the supposedly good one? *tr updated 09/28/07. *jb

I received a safety recall notice from toyota concerning a defect with the front suspension lower ball joint in 2002 toyota 4runners (ref nhtsa campaign id number : 05v225000). I contacted toyota on 9 may 2006 to begin the process to replace the defective parts. My situation is unique. I'm in the military and currently stationed in seoul, south korea. There are no toyota dealerships in south korea, however, lexus (owned by the same parent company) is located in seoul. It took the toyota customer service folks til aug to notify me that my issue had been forwarded to toyota hq in japan for resolution. In september i followed up since no one had contacted me about the situation. I was told by toyota that toyota hq had up to 4 months to work the issue. Toyota would also not provide the contact information for the office in japan handling the issue and also would not provide the contact information for the vendor that would accomplish the recall work. This is unacceptable as i'm driving my wife and one year old child in this vehicle with an identified defect in the front suspension. Any assistance you can provide to have toyota quickly resolve this matter would be greatly appreciated. *nm

On april 17th at 5:45 am while driving on i-465, i felt a loss of steering in the wheel. I did nothing to the wheel, as one would normally do when driving on ice. I was driving in the middle lane, the vehicle crashed into the highway divider and then careened off the road. A carmel police officer came to the scene and an accident report was entered. Front ball joint(s) failed and front wheel folded under vehicle; this resulted in the loss of steering and crash on interstate highway. The vehicle hit the concrete highway divider and then bounced across the interstate and off the road. When the vehicle was examined at the repair facility it was suggested that the cause of the accident was the failure of the ball joint. It appears that the lower ball joint(s) were not replaced. The old assembly(s) do not appear to have been touched. There is a consistent pattern of rust on the assembly(s) and nuts that have not been disturbed. I spoke with a toyota representative and was told that my vehicle id was a part of the recall ssc 50j or nhtsa campaign id number: 05v225000. I was also told that the work had been completed at obrien toyota on september 9th 2005. The ssc 50j completion label was not applied to the vehicle. I called the dealership the first part of may and spoke with the service manager, dan johnson, who assured me that the part had been replaced on both front suspensions. He stated that this service was performed by joe, who was one of his best mechanics. My complaint is either that the recalled part was not replaced or that the replacement part does not work. *jb

Brent brown toyota in oreum utah performed a 60,000 mile check up on our 2002 4-runner, the staff were great and the work accomplished correctly. After driving home over five hours from the dealership to our home, i thought that the 4-runner seemed to be riding rough. Upon checking the tire pressure, i found each tire to be over inflated at 70 pounds per tire. I had a local tire shop, "canyon lands tire" confirm the over inflated tires at more than 70 pounds in each tire. Canyon lands tire did verify that indeed the tire pressure was at 70 pounds and more. This oversight endangered my wife and i. The tires could have run off the rims resulting in injury or loss of life. I have contacted the toyota dealership who said they will be calling back. *tr

I have a 2002 toyota 4 runner with rust out of the rear differential housing. I took the vehicle in for repairs only to discover that metal was quite rusted at the rear housing and instead of a simple part replacement, the whole assembly has to be replaced, a costly repair. I found other owners with similar stories online. Is this a defective part? I had temporary repair with grinding, welding and epoxy which for the time being has corrected the leak but eventually it will reappear. *tr
