procedure for certain vehicles equipped with a floor pedal-type parking brake system. This bulletin
references the correct method for installing the Brake Pedal Force Gauge. Refer to the appropriate
Repair Manual for parking brake pedal travel inspection and adjustment specification.

SST Installation Procedure
1. Ensure that the parking brake pedal is in the fully
released position.

NOTE
Carefully inspect the Brake Pedal Force Gauge
for a potential oil leak before each use. If any
sign of an oil leak is present, discontinue
the use of the Brake Pedal Force Gauge
SST and call 1-800-933-8335 for replacement
instructions.
NOTICE
Use a shop rag or plastic cover to protect the
carpet area under the parking brake pedal to
avoid potential oil stains.

SST Installation Procedure (Continued)
2. Inspect the Brake Pedal Force Gauge and verify
that the force indicator needle reads “0”.

NOTE
If the needle is NOT reading “0”, follow the
steps below to reset it.
First check the gauge, apply pressure to
the force gauge 4 – 5 times with the needle
traveling beyond 250 Newton, then lightly lift
the pedal pad and check if the gauge resets
at “0”.

If the gauge still does NOT reset at “0”, follow
the adjustment steps below:
1. Carefully remove the plastic clear bezel.
2. Use pliers to turn the adjustment knob
until the needle reads “0”.
3. Install the plastic cover bezel.

3. Attach the Brake Pedal Force Gauge to the
parking brake pedal so that the mounting bracket
fits securely over the pedal pad and the gauge
faces to the right towards the brake pedal.

4. Firmly depress the Brake Pedal Force Gauge
with your foot according to the appropriate
procedure in the vehicle’s Repair Manual. Follow
the specifications indicated in the Repair Manual
as the number of clicks and force applied to the
parking brake pedal may vary from vehicle to
vehicle.

CAUTION
When applying force to the Brake Pedal Force
Gauge plunger platform (non-slip machined
aluminum face), ensure the contact surface
on the bottom of your shoe is dry to avoid
potential injury and/or vehicle damage.
5. Read the maximum force achieved during parking
brake pedal inspection by relieving the pressure
applied to the Brake Pedal Force Gauge plunger
platform (non-slip machined aluminum face) and
observe the force value recorded by the red
indicator.

6. To reset the gauge, turn the white knob counterclockwise until the red needle reads “0”.
7. Verify the force measurement according to the appropriate Repair Manual.
