  Certain heavy duty class 8 vehicles fail to comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 121, "air brake systems", s5.1.6.3, "antilock power for towed vehicles." electrical power for the trailer anti-lock braking system (abs) can be disrupted when a switch located on the vehicle instrument panel is activated to control lighting within the trailer.
  dealers will install a wiring harness which will provide continuous electrical power to the trailer abs whenever the ignition switch is in the on or run position. Owner notification began april 29, 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact volvo trucks at 1-800-528-6586.

• Recall 8125 [USA]: If an inappropriate gear is selected without the driver's knowledge, the vehicle will react differently than expected, possibly resulting in injury or crash.
  Vehicle description: heavy duty trucks equipped with eaton autoshift gen ii transmission assemblies. Due to a software problem in the transmission assemblies, the transmission will select the wrong gear.
  eaton is conducting the owner notification and remedy for this recall. Dealers will replace the autoshift transmissions.

• Throttle control malfunction investigation # EA05021

  On november 14, 2006 volvo submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning etm failures in model year (my) 1999 through 2001 volvo models (not including the s40 and v40), my 2002 s60 and v70 with naturally aspirated engines and my 2002 v70s.According to volvo, ¿a combination of throttle positioning sensor irregularities, a dirty throttle housing and/or inefficient software calibration may cause a warning lamp to light and the subsequent onset of limp home modes."volvo further stated that,"this resulted in a high number of these vehicles going into limp home mode without need.¿volvo indicated that this was the most severe consequence of an etm fault in the subject vehicles.The recall remedy is a software upgrade introduced by volvo on march 16, 2006 in a customer satisfaction program.At the time of the notification 161,202 vehicles of the population of 331,301 had already had the software uploaded and were therefore not included in the population count of the recall. Odi¿s analysis of complaints to odi and volvo, volvo field reports and warranty data found that etm failure could result in (1) engine stall; (2) mechanical limp mode; (3) lunging forward during low-speed driving maneuvers; and (4) faltering during high speed merges or when crossing traffic.Odi identified 12 crashes related to etm failure, with 6 caused by lunging incidents, 3 caused by stalling incidents, 2 caused by mechanical limp mode and 1 from the faltering condition.Odis analysis of complaint data and information obtained from consumer interviews identified 1,289 incidents with safety related consequences (389.1 per 100,000 vehicles), including 479 involving engine stall (144.6 per 100,000 vehicles) and 729 involving mechanical limp mode (220.0 per 100,000 vehicles).Odis analysis of warranty claim narrative text shows at least 14,965 warranty claims with codes indicating an etm fault resulting in vehicle operation in mechanical limp mode (4.5% of the subject vehicles). Volvo¿s recall addresses odi¿s safety concerns with etm failures.Odi will continue to monitor the subject vehicles to determine if additional action is required.This engineering analysis is closed.

2000 volvo conventional. Unit #1 was eastbound in far right lane. Unit #1 experienced blow-out on the forward drive axle, tandem, on passenger side of cab, causing damage to fuel tank, fiberglass body, and mud flap assembly. *ln (ohio traffic crash report # 10-0401-90)*jb

Car would die when driving without warning. Occurred 4 times, once on highway. Almost resulted in accidents. Had to have car serviced 4 times until the electronic throttle module was finally replaced at great expense and time wasted. *nm

2000 volvo s-80 t6 started out by cutting off at traffic lights for no reason. Diagnostic test revealed multiple faults in etm. *jb

I drive my vehicle and at random it looses speed, almost like it stutters for no apparent reason. *jb

2000 volvo s80 t6 engine stalls at low speeds. Car stops but can be restarted. Volvo shop did computer tests but found no faults. Has happened several times in the last 18 months. *nm

Dt: the contact stated vehicle stalled at highway speed. The engine did not die but operated at a reduced speed. The throttle light illuminated when this problem occurred. He took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer determined it was a throttle body problem. The dealer replaced the throttle body at a discounted price. Since the repair there have been no further problems. Updated 06/05/2006. *ak *ts

About 2 months ago i was driving about 65 mph when my volvo, year 2000, s70 started loosing power and a light came on, i believe it said egr. I pulled over and read the owners manual that said to turn the car off and turn it back on and it may reset itself. It did not. I turned around to come home and drove city streets. It would stall if i did not play with the pedal when i hit lights or made turns. I could only get the car to run at slow speeds as stepping on the pedal did not have an effect on acceleration. I made it home and the next day took it to the dealer for repair. It drove with the same problem to the dealer. They replaced a heavy cube about 10 inches x 4" x 3" that controlled something for about $700. *jb

My volvo s80 t6 sedan (year 2000) stalled 2 times within one week. This happened when i slowed the vehicle to less than 10 miles per hour to pass through the ez pass lane of nj turnpike tolls. *jb

Repair required to my volvo s80 (year 2000) throttle because "engine performance reduced". My charge from volvo dealer was $810.10. My understanding is that this problem is common to this model. Dealer told me that there were "thousands" of occurrences of this problem with this volvo model year. Nevertheless, dealer refuses to assume charge for fixing the problem until there is a recall.
