• Recall 187839 [USA]: A rear toe link fracture can result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain 2011-2013 explorer vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in connecticut, delaware, the district of columbia, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virginia, and wisconsin. These vehicles may be equipped with a cross-axis ball joint (cabj) replacement part that could seize, and result in a fracture of the outboard section of the rear suspension toe link.

If a cabj of any design is found, the dealer will inspect the tightness of the cabj, and replace the cabj, knuckle, and/or toe link as necessary, free of charge.   Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain wheel hub bearing assemblies, part number hb5z-1104-c, incorrectly listed as being for installation on the rear axles of 2011-2017 ford explorer 4x2 vehicles. These bearings assemblies were manufactured without a self retention feature, possibly resulting in the separation of the wheel or wheel end.

  Issue: on certain vehicles that have had one (or both) of the rear wheel knuckle(s) replaced, the outer ball joint for the rear suspension toe link may seize. If this happens, the toe link could break while driving. This could cause a sudden loss of vehicle stability. Note: this recall only affects vehicles equipped with a rear ball joint manufactured by zf. Safety risk: a loss of vehicle stability could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect if it has had ball joints installed to replace the original bushings in the rear suspension. If so, the ball joints will be inspected. If a ball joint requires replacement, the dealer will replace the rear suspension knuckle and toe link, as necessary.

  On certain vehicles operated in alberta, saskatchewan and manitoba, soil properties unique to these areas could cause an accumulation of soil to occur at the attachment point of the rear suspension toe link. This could impede the toe link's travel, causing bending stresses and potential fracture. A fractured toe link would affect vehicle handling and could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the toe links with revised parts.   On certain vehicles, the return spring within the interior door handle assembly could become unseated, resulting in an interior handle that does not return to the fully stowed position after actuation. This could allow a door to unlatch during a side impact crash, which could increase the risk of injury to a seat occupant. Correction: dealers will inspect, and repair or replace the interior handles as necessary.

  On certain vehicles, a fault in the electric power steering (eps) system could result in an immediate loss of power steering assist without warning to the driver. This would unexpectedly increase the steering effort force necessary to steer the vehicle at lower vehicle speeds, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will affect repairs as necessary and will reprogram the eps controller with updated software. In the event that an eps fault occurs, this updated software would allow for continued eps function while displaying visual and audible warnings to the driver until the end of the drive cycle.

Replacement steering gear assemblies could contain a defect potentially resulting in steering lockup and an inability to steer the vehicle. • Windshield trim molding item detachment investigation as of 20230127

  On january 27, 2023, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened pe23-001 to investigate allegations of a-pillar trim panel detachment on model year (my) 2011-2019 ford explorer vehicles. At the time of opening, the office had received 164 vehicle owner questionnaires (voqs) reporting this failure. Odi has received 671 voqs regarding this failure, including 1 alleged crash and 2 alleged injuries. Some consumers have reported that the failure occurred while they were driving at highway speeds, with the detached trim panel entering the path of travel of the vehicle behind them, requiring the driver of the following vehicle to take evasive action. It is noteworthy that motorists who experience this type of road hazard are less likely to accurately identify the subject vehicle the item detached from and report the event to the nhtsa. In its april 17, 2023 response to odi’s information request, ford provided 175 consumer complaints (including field reports) and 14,162 warranty claims related to a-pillar trim panel detachment. Ford relayed that the subject vehicles utilize a plastic a-pillar bracket, which is bolted to the vehicle structure during assembly. The a-pillar trim panel is attached to the bracket utilizing 7 plastic clips. Contributory factors which have been identified by ford as leading to the subject defect include incomplete installation at the assembly plant, inadequate part stack up, damage to fasteners during installation, and failure to follow proper repair procedure during windshield replacements or other services. On january 19, 2024, ford filed safety recall 24v-031 for my 2011-2019 ford explorer vehicles to address the subject defect. In the part 573 safety recall report, ford identified that a detached a-pillar trim panel can create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall remedy includes an inspection of the existing a-pillar trim panel and, if necessary, the replacement of the component. The remedy a-pillar trim panels will be installed with an additional adhesive for robustness and utilize an inspection procedure to ensure full engagement of all the retention clips during installation. In view of the recall action being taken by ford, odi is closing this preliminary evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. • Exhaust odor in passenger cab investigation as of 20170727

  During the ea17-002 investigation, the agency reviewed and analyzed reports of exhaust odors in the passenger cabins of model year 2011 to 2017 ford explorers. This investigation required an approach that incorporated knowledge and expertise from the automotive, medical, environmental health, and occupational safety fields. The agency conducted an in-depth investigation that encompassed the review of over 6,500 consumer complaints, conducting field inspections, and testing the relevant vehicles, both independently and in coordination with ford and other entities. During the investigation, the evolution of ford service bulletins intended to reduce the level of exhaust odors and carbon monoxide (co) entering the occupant compartment was examined and independent tests to evaluate the effectiveness of the final field service actions (fsa) for both consumer and police vehicles were conducted. As part of the investigation, the agency also examined the effects of cracked exhaust mani-cats on the measured co levels in the vehicles and tested the fsa repairs to ensure they did not adversely impact occupant compartment co levels due to cracked mani-cats.The investigation identified upfitting issues for police interceptor vehicles. Upfitting (sirens, lights, cages, auxiliary power, etc.) is typically performed by governmental fleet operations, independent repair facilities, or local ford dealers after the sale of the new vehicle. Sealing issues caused by upfitting were responsible for the highest measured carbon monoxide levels in tested vehicles. The police fsa instructs how to inspect the quality of the vehicle upfits and how to properly seal any leaks caused by these upfits, at no cost to the police agency. Similarly, the highest co levels measured in consumer vehicles were usually traced to sealing issues caused by rear crash damage where the repairs did not ensure sealing integrity. The most recent ford fsa procedure for both the police (17b25) and consumer vehicles (17n03) includes an hvac reprogramming operation. Tests by ford and nhtsa have demonstrated a substantial reduction of co levels due solely to the hvac reprogramming. Other fsa repairs also demonstrated measurable contributions to co level reductions during controlled tests.Throughout the investigation, vehicles accurately measured with higher levels of carbon monoxide were almost always affected by upfitter alterations, damage, or other causes compromising rear passenger cabin seals.Nhtsa received thousands of reports alleging odors which triggered a variety of physiological responses, predominately nausea, headaches, and lightheadedness. Nhtsa focused the investigation on accurately measuring vehicle co levels, and accurately measuring carboxyhemoglobin (cohb) levels from properly administered blood tests. Using rigorous test methods to produce exhaust gas intrusion in vehicles with a properly performed fsa, occupant compartment co levels remained below current environmental limits for co in any environment (epa ambient air quality standards). Furthermore, even without fsa repairs, no vehicles unaffected by upfitter issues or prior crash damage were identified with co levels that exceed accepted occupational co exposure levels. This investigation finds that the 2011-2017 ford explorer vehicles when accurately measured produce occupant compartment co levels which fall below current accepted health standards, and could not identify cohb levels for vehicle drivers or other occupants, which exceeded thresholds for acute physiological effects. Ford sync screen goes black and stays black. You cannot control rear air such as heat and or a/c. With this in mind and someone having small children that ride in the back and live in an area that sees 90 to 104 degree temperature well i am sure you can guess how hot the car is inside for them. I have been told by dealerships this is a common problem with this year of ford so why is their not a recall for this yet as children and pets are suffering and risking heat stroke due to this issue.

When filling up the fuel starts dripping in the bottom behind the rear wheel even though the tanks is not full yet.

Abs trac light came on while driving car was taken to the dealership twice to fix the problem but ford wasn't able to find the problem. I know there is a problem with the ford focus abs module due to recalls and i think on the ford explore but ford isn't saying anything about this problem with the abs module.

Vehicle feels like loses control, briefly and warning lights coming on. Had noticed intermittent, but was heading back from vacation and warning lights stayed on. Drove cautiously back on back roads, avoiding highway and took to local ford dealership and it was determined that the past steering recall repair has failed (15n01). The fix is warranteed so they ordered parts needed to fix problem. Unfortunately the vehicle has been out of use due to serious safety concern as advised by dealership as well as ford, but part has no eta on when available. I have been without a vehicle for over a month. Dealership was aware i reached out to ford and also contacted representative at ford i had contacted. Claim was filed, but to this day we still have no eta on the fix and i am without use of this vehicle and they won't do anything in the interim to rectify the concern. I have a claim with ford with a yeniss frias case no. Cas-31788394-f9k2y9  - 1-866-631-3788 extension #:79,088 and myself and kyle at kimber creek ford 1-218-818-4419 have reached out and we have no answers and i have no driveable vehicle and no info on when if ever i will. This is beyond poor customer service on ford's behalf to rectify a dangerous problem and to tell a customer sorry we don't know when and the customer has nothing safe to drive in the interim and they won't help with that either, is very poor and may cause others if in similar situation to just take the risk and drive the defective vehicle as people need their transportation and to offer no timeline. I was told when asked about loaner or rental by ford, i didn't qualify as i didn't have a warranty, despite the recall fix being warranteed. They told me basically sorry, these are unusual times so doing their best. But yet as i noted, i get unusual times, but then maybe some things like helping someone have a safe vehicle to use in the interim should be reconsidered. The consumer stated there is no communication with ford and an inability to drive the vehicle due to the defect.

As i was pulling out of a parking lot onto a city street the power steering alert came on and i lost power steering. The car was very difficult to steer and i barely managed to stay on the road. Turning was the difficult part. I parked the car and shut off the engine. When i started the car again the power steering had returned.

The manufacturer was informed of failure and determined that the contact had to pay out of pocket for the repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 106,653.

The power steering assist warning came on and i lost power steering. This issue was a recall issue with ford. T took the vehicle to sanderson ford and they contacted ford special service support center regarding the recall and warranty on the vehicle for recall. Ford did not approve the repair stating the vehicle was 13000 miles over the allotted mileage. Really??? Following are the exact comments from dealer to ford and ford to dealer taken from copies of their communication: dealer comment: november 23, 2020-request ford agent: if safety program 14s06 is closed and steering gear is required the vehicle must fall within the 10 yr/150,000 miles to be eligible for this repair. Nov 24, 2020-dealer-14s06 looks to be still open to myself and the technician please clarify ford agent- 14s06 is closed on oasis thank you. Ford agent- not approved. Please be advised this is not approved. If 14s06 was open we could approve it but because 14s06 is closed and veh is over the fsa guidelines for 15n01 then we cannot approve. 14s06 was closed back in 08/07/2014. Leaving my home and driving down the street power steering locked, was unable to steer vehicle and almost caused an accident. There was a prior recall for the steering component and thought this would have been corrected. Very dangerous to lose steering power while driving. Had multi point inspection checked by dealer july 23 and no issue was found by the dealers.

I was driving on highway today at 70mph and all of a sudden i heard a slapping noise on passenger side the rubber molding from winshield came loose and was hitting passenger window. After stopping at next exit i was able to push it back into trim piece but the trim piece is a little loose.

Upon diagnoses they stated that the electric power steering gear had become faulty. I asked if this was covered under the 'field action notice' or the recall that were available for this issue that i have seen all over the internet. It was explained that due to being 9,900 miles over the warranty of the field action notice they would not cover it, even after a asking through a provisional request to ford. I called ford customer service and was advised that this suv had the initial recall on the electric power steering back in 2014 and that this field action notice is a follow-up coverage for that. I stated that this fix must still have issues and was advised that ford has the thought that if something was wrong i would have brought it in before the 150k/10 yr mark. I stated we didn't know anything was wrong until now.

Airbag light has been on for a week now. Took it in to the ford dealership to find out the wiring is malfunctioning. According to the dealership it is a common issue with 2012 models. I was told that since the airbag light is on, if i got into an accident the air bags will not deploy. This is a major safety concern. Now i am having to pay upward of $400 to repair.

I have coolant leaking, i took it to a shop to be diagnosed and was told that it would cost over $2,000 since the water pump is in the front of the engine, there is only 132,000 miles on my car and i shouldn't be having this issue!!

Recall: 14v286000 recall date: 05/29/2014 component: steering:electric power assist system hello, i own a 2012 ford explorer limited. We received the recall several years ago from ford. We then took it to the dealership and had the recall completed. Here recently, the steering has intermittently become very difficult to operate when first started up and first moving. So far, we can regain operation by shutting off the vehicle and then restarting. It seems obvious that ford's "fix" for this recall did not address the issue. We are now nervous that this will show up while on the highway. We are now facing the high cost of replacing the rack and pinion.

Electronic steering gear assembly was a recall and was replaced. Replacement part has now gone bad once again. Ford is not honoring the warranty it provided for this part. Vehicle has no steering power now. Went out while driving down the road. Unable to turn left causing to go off the road. Was able to correct and traveled to dealer to find out that the steering is gone.

On 11-3-2019 at around 1820 hours while driving in the mountains, a yellow "service power steering soon" light illuminated. I acknowledged the warning and felt no change in handling at the time. I continued driving about another 10 minutes to my destination. As i turned into a driveway i could feel the steering get very tight and mentioned it to my passenger. I parked the car and returned about two and a half hours later. When i started the car at that time, a red "service power steering now" warning illuminated. I attempted to turn the steering wheel and was only able to do so with great effort. I drove the car about 100 ft and parked it for the night until i can get a tow truck for it. I will be contacting my local dealership, redlands ford, where i purchased the car originally.

Came out to start up my vehicle when immediately my power steering assist fault came on. It wouldnt allow me to back my car back nor turn my steering wheel as if it was locked. So i turned the car off feeling discouraged i may have waited 20 minutes and started the vehicle up to now there is no message. For the past year while driving at highway speeds the steering wheel gets "stuck" in position and will not turn left or right to stay in your lane. I have to apply heavy pressure on the steering wheel to make it move again but afterwards it appears to drive normally except on the occasion when it does it multiple times in a 3-4 hour trip. I mentioned it to my ford dealership when in for other service but nothing was ever done about it and they denied a recall was open for the steering. Fast forward to may, june, july and august 2019. On occasion when backing out of my garage, the steering wheel would lock up and i could not steer the vehicle without using excessive force. The steering wheel would then release and steer as normal. This happened more times than not so i started to wonder if it was the the brake pads and rotors sticking together because they were wet when the vehicle was parked but that theory quickly got shot down as it happened even in a long dry spell. Today, sept 05, 2019 as my wife went to back out of the garage, the steering wheel was completely locked up and would not budge. Normally i would rock the steering wheel left to right, back and forth and it would free up but not this time. After searching for remedies on the internet one person recommended to turn the vehicle off and wait a few minutes and then to start it up again. I did this and it worked! I also want to relay that at no time did i ever see a warning light on the dashboard while driving at highway speeds or when starting the vehicle after being parked in the garage. Its possible that the steering may have been repaired in the past before i purchased the vehicle (used) as it does not show up in a recall by vin search. Note: just started car again and the steering is locked again. Took several restarts to free it up!

The steering locked on my 2012 ford explorer ltd. While driving down a city street. I could not turn the steering and had to coast off the road. Had to call to have the vehicle towed. A notice on the car said check power steering. I seen where others have had similar problems with this vehicle, but i didn't see it as a recall item on your site.

Power steering recall of 2014- my vehicle was recalled for steering was fixed under a recall in 2014 the extended the warranty to 10 years of 150,000 miles. My vehicle keeps showing a power steering assist default. It has been to the dealer and they claim it is not saving a code so they can't do anything. What is gonna happen when it happens at 70 mph and me or one of my family members is killed. They need to honor their warranty and fix it. I can not drive it to dealer once ther steering fails and they tell me this is the only way they can fix it.

Since march 2019, i had been experiencing a slight stiffness in the power steering. By may, the traction sign came on then went off. When i asked the dealer about this, they said there was a 2-3 week wait to have the car looked at. It didn't happen often, but infrequently. Then one day in late june, when i turned on the car and backed down the driveway, there was no power in the steering. I drove back up the driveway and turned off the car. Then turned it back on and all was fine. In late july it happened again and early august it completely went out. I was able to get the car in at the dealership on a friday and they found it was the steering gear failed internally. They finished repairing the car by the following tuesday. When the car was at 141,000 miles i had asked if there were any recalls that haven't been done on this car. They said no. My questions is: does a safety recall expire?

I have a 2012 ford explorer that was included in the safety recall 14s06. The pscm was reprogrammed prior to me purchasing the vehicle. Associated to recall 14s06 is the extended coverage program 15n01, which is to remain open on the vehicles that were recalled in the event that any loss of steering assist dtcs are present. My explorer has a complete loss of power steering and the dealer has noted that my entire steering gear assembly must be replaced. Ford refuses to acknowledge extended coverage 15n01. This coverage is supposed to last for 10 years and 150,000 miles. I am at 144,000 miles. Ford continues to repeat that my car is not included in the special coverage. However, publications from ford indicate otherwise. Replacement of my steering gear is $2,200. All of which should be covered by ford. My power steering and stabilitrak warnings go off and i lose power steering while driving. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed correctly by ford. Ford's customer care department is severely incapable of answering the most basic questions. They are also incapable of accurately documenting what you have called about making it impossible to reach any resolution or provide information beyond what you research on your own. I requested escalation and was told that they don't have bosses, won't escalate my request for additional information or provide original recall notifications for my vin. I was told the only way to pursue the issue further was to write a letter.

Car won't go into park

07/25- had recall ordered- toe link on both sides, rear. Performed at harrisonburg ford, va. ; 09/04 driving on route 33 in va, mountain road. Heard grinding noise coming down mountain, noise steadily increased and began to feel like a loss of control. Slowed down and a mile from shop the noise stopped. Went to rice tire in va and had it checked. The bolt holding toe link on right side had dislodged nearly completely. Had it replaced and told to go to ford to re torque both sides.; 09/05 went to ford. Was informed that mechanic had hand torqued the bolts, essentially misread instructions. Manager actually stated that they were going to have to call many other customers to re torque their toe links correctly as well. I asked for alignment as well, because this problem would surely affect balance and alignment, this was performed as well. They billed it to recall warranty dept.; 11/6 driving on 25 in colorado springs 65 mph, traffic stops and as i break heavily i lose control and vehicle hops a lane. No accident.; 11/07 take vehicle to ford to check toe links, was told both nuts were loose, left and right, the knuckle on one side has snapped the brakes are bad, rotors and back 2 tires are bad..I specifically asked , says that this is all related. The front brakes are worn as well, clearly from compensation of driving with bad toe links. I was told specifically yes this is all related. Ford recall manufacturer refusing to cover toe links as well as all associated damage, totaling over $3k. I have never had any issues with vehicle and perform regular maint on tires brakes and rotars, etc. And within 3 months of recall i have had 2 life threatening incidents and complete ruination of my vehicle safety, and alot of damage incurred. Receipt of recall on 11/25 stating everything related is green. No way this damage is not associated to "new, safer" toe links.

When turning left steering would not return without extreme force on my part. Very dangerous because it kept me going left and would cause a wreck. Dealer duplicated the steering problem. Vehicle was in motion. Dealer stated the problem was with the steering gear: refer to recall 19v-435

Lost communication with the climate control system. The windows lock up, and the car blows constant heat through defrost. No hazards can be used as the entire control panel is out. Very unsafe without hazards, let alone full blown heat when its already . 105 outside with the heat index.

Power steering went out. My vehicle is part of the recall. Took it to mcmullen ford in council bluffs, ia. They told me i'm 300 miles over the recall and it was going to cost $1,900 to fix. Vehicle has 108,954 miles on it.

I bought my explorer in june 2019. After purchasing i noticed the smell of the exhaust inside the vehicle .Throughout the summer months i drove with the windows down due to the a.C. Not working properly . I continued smelling the exhaust but financially unable to seek repairs. With cooler temperatures the windows now closed the smell of the exhaust was more apparent and i begin to experience severe headaches, frequent nausea, fatigue and some dizziness and confusion. I was told of reports of carbon monoxide issues with this make of vehicle and spoke to ford about repairs as well as other recalls needed for my explorer. I took my car for the repairs today and am still experiencing the carbon monoxide issue still. I will be contacting the ford dealership tomorrow as this wasn't repaired. I'm concerned for my health and having this issue not fixed .

The same common problem with every single 2012 ford explorer. The airbag light came on and possibly disabled the airbag system. According to hundreds of explorer owners this issue is an endless money pit because there is no permanent fix and ford refuses to recall the vehicle for this problem. The cost for turning off the light at a ford dealership will be upwards of $400 and will only turn the airbag light off for a short while. I was promised by local ford dealer "there's a high probability i'll have to bring the car back in for this issues down the road and their apologies but there's nothing from ford to help me cover the cost of this repair". When it accelerate 0 to 60 it feels like trembles, even when it passes 60 mph it feels. If you active the over drive it feels iven more... I replace the tires, brakes , control arm, motor mount. The mechanic check everything. So the only rest for check is the rack and pinion the hall thing. The explorer is in very good condition

Twice in 5 days the vehicle has 'awd off' error message pop up when driving at 25mph, and has forced the vehicle into idle while in traffic. All of the mechanics we talked to won't touch the vehicle because this a known issue, and direct us to the ford dealership to have it serviced. There is zero sense of safety when driving it.

Water leaks in through the third row seat belt tensioner. Water runs down the seat belt and pools on the floor. This happens when the vehicle is stationary or moving. Water in the seat belt assembly is a safety risk. I reported it to ford, they declined to fix it.

Takata recall

While my was driving she went to accelerate from a stop and heard a noise. She thought maybe she ran over glass or something. When she went to turn the corner the vehicle kept going straight. She ended up hitting another vehicle due to the rear suspension breaking. My vehicle is part of the rear suspension recall.

I had a sync black screen the central processing unit and apim was no good so i had no control of anything like the heat defrost or anything that controlled with the touch screen including the rear camera and sensors to the car and from what i read that is a known problem with that car of that year.

On 4/17/2019 my air bag light came on its not blinking just solid its been almost a week and light is still on. I have researched this issue and it appears to be a common issue with my ford year and model. From what i researched none of the ford repairs have permanently repaired this issue. From i have read in these complaints is the airbag will not deploy when this light is on wondering why there is not a recall for this very dangerous condition. I am not taken my car to a ford dealer to pay hundreds of dollars for a temporary fix this needs to be addressed asap.

It seems that 2011-2018 are affected by some sort of airbag malfunction. Ford is not helping anyone and people are paying ford hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to fix the problem only for the problem to still exist. It is wide spread and not just an issue in certain climates. At what point does the manufacturer become liable for faulty safety equipment? We are all being told that our airbags will not deploy if in any accident, large or small, and to me this is a huge problem. How many lives need be lost or in jeopardy before someone can hold ford accountable for their obvious defect? This is my only vehicle and i simply cannot afford to have it in and out of the shop for repairs that shouldn't even need to be done in the first place. I have several small children that ride in my vehicle daily and now i feel their lives are at risk whenever we go to the grocery store. I don't have hundreds or thousands of dollars to keep dumping into my vehicle for a repair that ford should recall and fix themselves. There are a few tsb's out at ford currently for the airbag systems and they seem to be primarily an issue with needing dielectric grease added at the connectors. I have found thousands of complaints from explorer owners with the same concerns and receiving little to no help from ford. It's a matter of them saying 'oh well' or 'there's nothing we can do'. This is completely unacceptable and quite frankly unbelievable that it's happening on a 40k car. Several mechanics have also stated that a safety issue of this magnitude should be a recall.

Power steering assist fault came on. 2014 a recall for this issue. I just bought this vehicle 3 weeks ago, can i still have work done.

I have been experiencing 'power steering assist fault' errors on startup on my 2012 ford explore fwd. This results in complete power steering failure which makes it impossible for me to turn the wheel to either direction. I've read that there is a recall but ford has not sent me any notifications in mail or notified me when i had the car at the dealership for service.

The power steering assist fault will randomly shut down my ability to steer the vehicle. This happened once while leaving my driveway to take my kids to the bus stop. I could not budge the steering, i lost all control. I turned the vehicle off, than restarted it, the assist fault was not on now and i was able to drive. Luckily this occurred be for i left my driveway because you loose all control of the steering. Other times it comes on when i start the vehicle and will not go off right away, leaving me stuck at work, grocery store so on. My car is now in my driveway with the fault on. I have tried everyday, but the car is not drivable and the fault will not shut off this time. I have only owned this car for two years and only drive it when i have to. I don't feel safe in a car that looses steering at any time. If i'm on the highway when it shuts down i feel this is risking life and safety of myself and anyone around me.

Vehicle was in motion when power steering locked up and all dash lights flashed. Resulted stranded on side of busy road and all power steering failed. Was driving side street at time of occurrence. I made multiple attempts to contact ford corporate to resolve and they refuse to cover under guaranteed recall of the power steering rack and pineon. I have auto service center repairs with a repair cost of $2000.00. Please assist in covering this cost for repairs under warranty recall. I have only owned this vehicle for 2 years. Thank you.

Power steering locks up and needs replacement. Ford dealer claims this is not covered under recall, and vin search indicated no open recall for this vehicle. Dealer has reset vehicle computer and that may be why no open recall shows up. Internet searches indicate that this is a very common problem and should have been covered under a previous recall, but there is no evidence that the vehicle ever had recall work done. So far the problem only presents itself upon initial startup while the vehicle is stationary. However, internet searches show that others have had steering lock up while in motion, causing vehicle accidents.

The vehicle was taken to junge cedar rapids (319-393-6500, located at 1200 boyson rd, hiawatha, ia 52233) where it was diagnosed that the power steering gear failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,100.

Electric steering gear was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,700.*bf *jb

My explorer smells very strongly of exhaust when accelerating. It makes me nauseous and passengers do not want to get in my car ' i don't want to get in my car. Ford's customer service program has not addressed the issue and they have not even acknowledged the issue. Plugging up two small plugs in the trunk and reprogramming the air conditioning/heat system does not address an apparent exhaust leak. I have spoken with employees of ford, seen countless stories online ' this issue is not unknown or undiagnosable. I hope that the nhtsa may provoke ford to do the right thing before someone get seriously hurt.

Purchase vehicle 2 21 2019 and the two engine lights warning lights breaking decelerates which is very dangerous driving on the highways. Service light tracking light stays on and the vehicle does all this on it's on. I have contacted by chat the ford corporation about this serious issue with this make and model. I was told their was no service bulletin so they could not help me. They refuse to address the dangerous matter this make and model has very dangerousand the lights are still on. Also with the engine lights staying on all the time the cruise control does not work.

Monday, february 18, 2019 when i startedmy car i started smelling a strong order of a natural gas smell coming from my car. It gets so bad that i have to roll down the windows at times. I contacted ford regarding this however they said thatt since me car is out of warranty it will be be covered and there are no current recalls on this vehicle. It's a constant gas smell whether i'm driving, idling, or parked. This is not safe.

Could not fill my gas tank because it was blocked by some piece of metal. At a gas station. Went to an auto repair shop and the mechanic had to use 2 screwdrivers to push the metal obstacle away. I was then able to put gas in.

While pulling out of the driveway at an unknown speed, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the power steering assist fault warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the control module needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was called, but the contact did not speak with anyone. The failure mileage was 78,000.

At beginning, vehicle frequently suddenly reduce the speed while driving, then i experienced the difficulty to start the engine in the morning. Miss fire of the engine experienced during both in driving and morning engine start. The vehicle also accelerate when the driving speed around 20 mph in city driving, and suddenly reducing the speed when it is around 80 mph on highway. So i decided to send it to a local repair shop for finally i parked inside of the garage and waiting to delivery it diagnostic, but the repair shop could detect anything wrong in mechanic, therefore they recommend ne send it to ford dealer for further testing. After store this vehicle in the garage for few days, the engine can not start at all. I had to tow it to ford dealer for further testing. The only error ford dealer found is the re-installation of pcm software. Which ford had a recall on this vehicle, the recall work was performed by the same ford dealer on 11-15-2016. After last week re-install the pcm software by ford dealer, i still experience the uneven shaking when the engine accelerate to 4000 rpm (not driving condition), as well as the diving speed close to 80 mph on highway. Buy ford dealer claims these symptoms are very normal of the ford expedition.

Start car and epas steering does not work. Restart a couple of times was able to drive just once. The next day even restarting the car did not work. I see that their was a recall for this issue. I hope ford fixes this issue under the recall.

I have an exhaust smell coming from my vents. This odor is present in the front and back seats of the car. It is present when the vehicle is in motion, as well as when it is stationary. It happens at random times and can happen while driving at a slower rate, and while driving at high speeds. The dealership cannot identify the source of the smell.

As a result, the contact's visibility was impaired. The contact checked the rearview mirror and noticed the vehicle behind her swerve to avoid the debris on the roadway. While driving on a rural road warning lights came on. Pulled over, turned vehicle off. Turned back on. Complete power steering failure. Appears to be same issue as previous recall.

As i was driving on the highway out of no where i heard a flapping noise coming from the drivers side of the windshield, the saw a black piece of rubber immediately flapping around. I immediately slowed down and went to pull over to see what it was. Then i heard a loud 'pop" and saw this black thing fly pass me. When i got out i realized the black pillar molding on the driver's side of the windshield had flown off. Similarly enough, my room mate has the same year and model vehicle, about a week after mine flew off, her passenger side did the same thing, only driving on residential roads (slower speed). This piece is about 2 feet long, as a projectile filing off a vehicle in motion it very easily could have caused an accident or hit a pedestrian.

The contact pulled the vehicle over and it started shaking. When the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, it operated normally. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall and advised the contact to save the receipts for reimbursement if a recall was issued. Power steering fault. The power steering just stopped work while i was driving with now warming until it was completely inoperable. I nearly crashed it to an on coming car in the parking lot of my gym. I notice there was a recall for this make and model but when i did a vin search my truck was not registering a recall.

In 2014 there was a recall for my vehicle. It was not fixed because when checked my car did not show any problem. Now i cannot drive my car due to power steering assist fault. I called the dealership and was informed they cannot fix my car based on warranty because it previously checked out fine. This car is not safe to drive and quite expensive to fix. Why can't the recall still apply to my car. My car was in my driveway when it happened so thankfully no one was hurt. But the danger remains if i have to drive it anywhere without being able to get it fixed.

Our power steering failed completely on 12/17/2018. Exact symptoms as described in former recall 14v286000 - somehow ford was able to change this recall to an extended warranty which lapses at 150,000 miles. Our vehicle failed at 150,950 miles - rendering it extremely dangerous and impossible to control. Repair costs over $2300. How the nhtsa can accept such an agreement as an extended warranty in place of a blanket recall demonstrates the power of the auto-maker lobby at the extreme detriment and danger to the american public. Ford and nhtsa should be ashamed.

While i was about to make a turn at a four-way stop, the power steering assist notification came on and my steering wheel locked. I ran up onto the sidewalk. Had there been any pedestrians, they would have gotten hit.

The contact stated that the vehicle had been repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v286000 (steering) on may 29, 2014. The contact stated that the manufacturer issued a memorandum on july 1, 2015 in reference to the recall, stating that it was subject to a warranty extension conversion. The contact stated that the manufacturer replaced the recall with a 150,000 mile warranty coverage extension under 15n01. The diagnostic trouble codes located earlier by the dealer were consistent with the warranty coverage; however, the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not eligible for the 150,000 mile warranty extension program. Multiple times my brakes have had to have repairs because of a failure in the emergency brake system. Twice within the past 6 months i have had the e-brake lock up, get stuck, or fail in a way that required full replacement of my rotors, pads, brake lines, and fluid resulting in thousands of dollars in damages. After the first failure in this, i stopped using the e-brake, however had the problem repeat itself only a few months later. The time earlier this year was noticed when the brakes were pulsating while driving, and the second occurrence this year was noticed when the fluid was drained and a "low brake fluid" light came on, and was further examined after fluid did not stay in the system for very long (matter of an hour or two).

Steering gears lock steering system almost causing a crash with my 11 year old son in the car.

2012 ford explorer xlt 4w. The terrain management system fault light came on and car went immediately into limp mode on a major road.There was no warning and was almost rear ended. Took to dealer oct.1 and they kept it two days. The dealer said they could not find a code. Dealer said it is fixed by updating and calibrating the abs system. It was not fixed. . Oct 13 same light went on and car immediately into limp mode on expressway. Nearly caused accident because car immediately slowed down and would not go more than 5mph in limp mode. You loose complete control of the transmission and throttle. There are 53+ cases with this problem on the internet just this year. Please google (terrain management system fault light) and see that there are many more ford cars are affected by this problem there are 3 youtubes showing this problem. They cars are not safe to drive. Anyone who had a terrain management system light that goes on while driving will experience the same dangerous situation

When trying to make an unprotected left turn at a stop sign, i pressed the gas and my car didn't move for a couple of seconds once it dod move it took a few more seconds for it to accelerate quickly to safely make my turn. The oncoming traffic in the lane i was crossing over for the turn had to brake suddenly because my car didn't make it through the intersection fast enough. I was told that my turbo boost was bad. I have a 2012 eco boost model and it was classified as 'under boost' which wasn't allowing my car to accelerate properly and would eventually give out completely not allowing me to accelerate at all.

Water leaks from roof rack and cracks in welding around tail-gate roof and welding around hinges. Water is pooling and standing in the spare tire well. Water is running down the driver side third row seat belt, down the sound proofing/ insulator pad over the frame, wicking onto the spare tire cover and floor cover. After investigating this on the internet, found many owners with the same issue and ford dealers are not addressing it.

My vehicle has failure on the electronic power ateering assist, as noted on recall campain 14v286000 by nhtsa for this vehicle but my vehicle was not on recall list. Vehicle has experience loss of power on electronic power steering making ateering hard. Today when driving on highway problem happened for the third time, had some trouble getting out of highway, i need to mive to the side of the road and turn off vehicle for some time and turned back on to restart the electronics.

"power steering assist failure" warning when starting the car can usually be resolved by restarting the car and has been intermittent for the life of the vehicle, however the power steering (which is completely electronic--no pulley or hydraulics) is now failing while driving making the car nearly impossible to turn and especially at lower speeds because you're fighting through the electronic motor in the epas system.

Airbag light illuminates soon after being fixed at dealer. Literally went on prior to driving home from dealer only to turn around and bring it back. Have had the vehicle in the dealership on numerous occasions in the last year. No one can answer the question: is the whole airbag system dismantled while on? If you turn car off and on it will disappear and come on soon after. Called ford customer service only to be told they can't answer the question. Been dealing with this constantly since prior to august 2017

After parking my vehicle in my drive way (vehicle was in park with emergency brake applied) i exited the vehicle and the vehicle started rolling forwards down my slopped driveway. I attempted to chase the vehicle hoping to jump in and apply the brake but was unable to. Vehicle came to a stop after hitting my fence, bushes, and a small tree. There was body damage to the front right portion of the vehicle.

The airbag light keeps coming on, it has been addressed before by the dealer but continues to happen. Now that my car is out of warranty i would be responsible for this issue that is very common with this car.

The vehicle at start up has disabled power steering causing the vehicle unable to be steered. The vehicle was in a driveway and was about to place into drive gear when the warning light came on and could no longer turn the steering wheel.

Took my 2012 ford explorer in to have the tires replaced and the next day there was an "odor" coming into the cab as well as outside of cabin as i was driving to work and when i stopped and got out of the vehicle.

The problem occurs again twice on 5/23/18 the wrench icon appears again, lost power, no acceleration, turn off the engine and restart..Made an appointment back to coggins ford and they checked and still there is no code to see what is wrong with the car. They suggest that it might be the electronic throttle body if i want to replace it but not guarantee. With my approval i am taking my chances to replace it because i am scared i will be in a serious accident if i will not do something about it. I hope this will fix the problem and also hoping that you will do something about this incident. Thank you.

I was driving on the highway with the speed of 60 miles per hour and suddenly the wrench icon shows on the left hand side of my steering wheel and my car speed is slowing down. I tried to push my accelerator harder but it will not pick up speed, so i pull off the road and turn off my engine. After a few minutes, i started my car and it starts and drove home with a low speed and made an appointment to coggins ford in jacksonville,fl.05/14/2018. I will follow up on the result.

Front passenger seat pretensioner has failed causing the airbag light to come on. A technical service bulletin has been created on ford's end blaming the connect. See tsb 12-5-11. It tells the mechanic to inject dielectric grease as a fix.

The wipers will randomly turn on even if the switch is off. I have found that i have to turn the wipers on to the highest setting then immediately turn them off you get the wipers to stay off. My second problem is the air bag warning light will turn on at random times while driving. I can go weeks or months with out it turning on but i can also go weeks with it staying on 24/7. I have taken it to a ford dealer to be looked at and the answer i got was 'we are not sure why it's doing it but just put a towel on the dash to keep it from getting hot and that should fix it maybe'. I have found that while driving if my wife turns around to get/give something to our child the light will turn on when she fully sits back down.

While driving on highway, lost power and speed dropped. It was like engine stopped working properly. Had to pull off road, it was so scary on highway to loose power not to mention dangerous!!! Check engine light came on. After taking to ford dealership, found out that ecoboost turbo had blown and seized up.

Sync system died- no screen/no usb power/no navigation/no heat/cool control/no radio/no hand-free phone while driving on a highway- unable to restart or reboot.

The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the failure he was experiencing was not part of the voluntary ford exhaust campaign. The failure mileage and vin were not provided.

Drivers side inside door handle, spring sprung, and door handle is almost all the way open. Just by touching it, the door opens. With this being a front door, the lock wont allow it not to open. There is a recall on this exact same problem, but they say my vehicle isn't covered. They said the vin number isn't part of this recall, yet it is the same issue the recall was issued for. The recall number is15s11.

Sudden grinding in the steering wheel. Suspect it is related to a prematurely failing steering gear box. Occurred while vehicle was stationary

Sometimes my steering wheel will lock and i can not move and i am driving with my children and that scared me i've called the tow truck twice taking it to the dealership for them to find nothing. Now my vechile is starting to shake when i'm driving and i'm tired of taking to the dealership for nothing. I've taken to 2 dealership and they say the same thing. It's always when i'm driving. It's all i the dealership papers. I'm sick and tired of this . It started about 1 year after i got it. I would not buy another ford

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford explorer. While driving 7 mph, a grinding metal sound was heard and the vehicle stopped. The contact shut off the vehicle and restarted it, but it would not engage into gear. The contact had the vehicle towed to his personal auto mechanic and was informed that the passenger side axle mount fractured. The technician replaced the passenger side axle mount. While test driving the vehicle after the repair, the contact noticed that the instrument panel lighting, including the wrench icon, the service advance track indicator, and the cross traffic system fault indicator illuminated. The mechanic stated that the vehicle would have to be taken to the dealer to be reprogrammed so the instrument panel lighting would dim. The contact took the vehicle to helfman ford (12220 southwest fwy, stafford, tx 77477) to be reprogrammed. There were no recall for the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.

The control panel that shows the rear backing and then switches to controlling temperature, radio, seats, etc has failed. There is no backing assist or any controls for interior functions. The feature stopped when in motion and hasn't come back on since.

Service power steering. Advance trac light came on. Unable to steer vehicle while on highway doing 55mph. We are unable to get this car repaired due to high cost to ship car 572miles out of town. Told us that we need to pay for the repair and will get reimbursed at later date. However after explaining we don't have money to ship it they offer little to no help. There is a local shop that does warranty repairs but we have to pay out of pocket up to $1,600 not including labor costs of repairs done to vehicle. Ford then said 'repairs and services would be our responsibility' explained in photo documentation

Steering wheel locks up while driving. I have to turn the car off in order to unlock the steering wheel. Very dangerous. Dealer made me buy a new battery and "reprogrammed" vehicle, but the problem came back.. It's happened multiple times. Most recently on 1/10/18.

Strong carbon monoxide odor coming through the hvac vents when i was driving to work. I rolled down my window to get the odor out of the vehicle. I have noticed this odor in the past but i figured that it was coming from outside of the vehicle from other motorists. After receiving notice that this is a recall and is potentially coming from my vehicle, i will go ahead and schedule an appt. To get this resolved. This is a dangerous issue to have. More importantly with my family in the vehicle. If the ford "fix" doesn't resolve the issue my question is, what am i to do about this? The final payment for my 2012 ford explorer is due on 01/15/2018. I really do not want to have to purchase another vehicle after paying $698 for the past 6 years. If this issue continues i'd expect ford to do 1 of 2 things, 1. Take back the ford explorer and let me trade for another ford vehicle of equal cost to what i paid for my explorer, less the interest. 2. Refund my $46k that i paid for my ford explorer as you have sold me an unsafe vehicle. I've already had the issue of losing power steering while i was driving on multiple occasions. Luckily i got that issue resolved from a previous recall. Please help us nhtsa as we should not have to tolerate unsafe vehicles at our expense. It seems like the hard working people are the only ones that pay for manufacturer's mistakes. Let's start punishing these big companies so that they do a better job regarding people's safety. Oil is collecting at my air intake. I have replace the pcv valve but it is still leaking oil onto my air filter. This is also causing fumes in the vehicle.

My vehicles is expediting recall 14s06 and has happened 2x and for dinner is as saying my vin number is born unser the recall. Help

I smell exhaust when idling or waiting at stop lights- even when driving. Am i in danger?? It is ongoing and happens often.

Heavy fumes are entering my car causing headaches. Recall was performed and problem continues to persist.

The airbag light is on. It does not flash it's just on all the time. I took the vehicle in for an oil change and asked the ford dealership to check it out and they said they did not have time and when i asked if it was covered they said i would have to pay for it. I called the ford dealership today and asked about bringing it in and eric again said i would have to pay for it and he knows nothing about a recall or any problems with the air bags. I have read online that there are over 850,000 fords who have a recall due to the airbags malfunctioning. I am also told that the airbag will not deploy. This is my only transportation and i feel this is very dangerous. I will never buy another ford again. The customer service is horrible.

A few times at slow speeds the 'power steering assist fault' light would come on and it was very difficult to steer. If the engine was turned off and back on, it would clear the issue. This last time it happened the 'service advancetrac' light also came on and the issue could not be cleared. The car was too difficult to steer and had to be towed to the dealership. All of these happened at slow speeds.

Our power steering system finally went out on our 2012 xlt. In fact, the wife was driving on the interstate with our two toddlers at 75mph when it went out. She pulled over and i had to meet up with her and drive it home (not easy). We would have been eligible for the recall if this happened 8k miles ago, but since we are over the 150,000 limit, i get to pay $1940.00 to get it repaired(getting repaired as this is typed). Its sad really, because when i was at 120k, i was having issues with the power steering and was hoping to get it replaced at the dealer, however at the time, they were "unable to replicate the issue" so no action was taken. I am disappointed, because it takes a complete failure (and endangerment to lives) for the recall to be initiated. I wonder if gm's ignition recall is the same way? I could repair it myself as its not too bad of a job, but due to being busy, it would probably take a week or two for me to do alone and this is our primary family vehicle. My service adviser has been nothing but helpful but have to say that i am disappointed in fords approach to the failure of a major component of the vehicle.

After starting the car while parked the 'service advance trac" warning came on. After driving approx. 100 feet the warning went away. There was a slight hardness in the steering at this time. That went away when the warning went away. This occurred on nov. 10, 2017. The second problem occurred on nov. 23, 2017. While parked overnight and all day in our garage i started the car and the "power steering assist fault'' warning came on. I could not turn the steering wheel at all. I turned off the engine and within 10 to 15 seconds i started the car again. No warning came on and the power steering worked o.K. I started the car again this morning and no warning or problem.

My 2012 ford explorer limited edition has an exhaust leak that is pushing fumes into the cabin of the vehicle. The noxious fumes enter the cabin and induce nausea and severe headaches. The vehicle has been brought to a certified ford dealership who has confirmed that this leak is part of a largely known issue that occurs with the explorers'. I have been informed that while ford recognizes the problem, they have yet to produce the parts required to fix it, and i have to sit and wait for ford to do what is necessary on their part, which is going to take an undetermined amount of time. In the meantime i am forced to drive around with these fumes entering my vehicle.

2012 ford explore limited. While driving on highway, the car suddenly with no warning decreased speed then a wrench warning light came on in the lower left dash panel, and the car was idling very rough. Even though i was pressing on the gas pedal to accelerate, there was no response. I was able to limp it home at literally 2 mph in "limp mode". The car did not respond when i pressed the acceleration pedal although i still had power. I had to have it towed to dealership to be checked out. After researching what it could be, i learned it is possibly the electronic throttle body (etb) and/or purge valve. I am passed extended warranty naturally and probably going to be left with a huge bill. Why is this not a recall ford????? It is clearly a manufactured issue with this many people experiencing this same issue.

Power steering quit working in the parking lot. Has no power steering. Has had a software update to fix the steering and was told the steering needed replaced but the part was on back order and then was told the vehicle didn't qualify to have the steering rack replaced and now it has failed.

I am worried about the carbon monoxide in my ford explorer. I was driving a friend of my to lunch and she got insanely red and broke out in hives the minute i turned the heat on. I ride with the windows open because i am concerned about the air in the cabin with my 2 year old who has asthma. There is always a smell when you turn either the air or the heat on.

The car has water leaks, i started having problems with electrical function and fear of fire or contact in my car .

There is a smell of gasoline in and outside of the vehicle at all times. The check engine light keeps reappearing even after continuous examination.

The vehicle would randomly go into limp mode. In limp mode the vehicle would no longer respond to the accelerator pedal and would stay at a rough idle. It did not matter whether you were going 10 mph or 70 mph. It happened once when on a narrow bridge during rush hour. It always happened when trying to accelerate but did not matter what position the pedal was in to begin with. Shutting the car off and opening the door would reset it and it would work again until the next time. It turned out that the throttle body was defective. It took two visits to the dealership until they could figure out the problem and cost $500 to fix. The fact that it was random and you lost all means of acceleration could be extremely dangerous especially when merging into high speed traffic. My wife refused to drive it.

Brake system malfunctioning and ford dealership has the vehicle for 2 months and unable to repair due to bad production parts

Dizziness, nausea from driving vehicle in september, october, november and december 2016. Auto in motion. When driving auto 1-30 miles or more, when i got out of car i was dizzy and at times had to hold onto a pole or anything near me to regain balance. I felt tired all the time. I purchased a new 2017 ford expedition in jan 02, 2017 and i have not been dizzy since. I noticed chicago tribune article in the rides section of sunday feb. 4th, 2018 issue written by phoebe wall howard of detroit press and it hit a nerve with me that this may have been the problem. High carbon monoxide level in car cabin.

An exhaust odor repeatedly occurred in the cabin while the vehicle was accelerating.

Exhaust leaking back into the vehicle. As i accelerate, it smells like gas fumes coming from a/c vents. I noticed it from the day i bought the vehicle.

I have smelt the exhaust fumes coming from this vehicle several times. I can really smell the fumes if i am going through a drive-thru at a restaurant and roll down the window. I never thought much of it until i started researching the complaints from other vehicle owners.

On 3 separate occasions over the last 3 years the airbag warning indicator light on the dash has come on, for no apparent reason. On each occasion i have taken the vehicle to my local ford service center where they finally determined that the solution was to apply some dielectric grease to the electric connectors under the drivers seat. This fix was covered under my extended warranty on the first 2 occasions on the 3rd they agreed to apply the grease at no cost to me. My service center has told me that when this problem occurs the airbag will not deploy. Wondering why something as important as an airbag has loose connectors which hang down under the drivers seat, seems like a design flaw? Why is there no recall to permanently fix this issue.

(re)starting august 1, 2017, while driving, the vehicle would suddenly and without warning decelerate, with no response from the gas pedal. Ford calls this their "limp home mode." the wrench icon warning would display and the entire vehicle would shudder until it was put in park and turned off. Usually, it would resume normal operations after being restarted, however, on one occasion, it took three attempts to restart. After two such incidents occurring in less than a mile, i don't feel safe driving on the highway (or, really, any other place) as there is no indication to other drivers and the vehicle actively decelerates, rather than coasting. During one such incident, the deceleration was so pronounced that passengers jerked forward in their seats and a canine passenger lost its footing, falling into the back of the seats. We previously experienced this same issue in 2015, leaving me and a small child stranded when the vehicle did not restart at all. As part of a "goodwill" repair due to the vehicle being just out of warranty, the etb (electronic throttle body) and purge valve were replaced by ford. I filed complaint 10787972 with the nhtsa on 10/25/2015. In 5 years, this will be the second replacement of a part that's expected to last well over 6 years. Ford is aware of the problem, is and has been sued, and is being investigated.

I was driving on an intersection that dashboard lights started flickering and the car indicated check manual and orange wrench came out... And all of the sudden car stop & i tried starting it but it would it was in the middle of nowhere... I was on 342 n. San fernando rd., los angeles, ca 90031 around 2:00 pm

This is a safety issue - air bags could malfunction at anytime due to miscommunication within the system. Air bags can deploy at anytime or can fail to deploy when necessary. Air bag light turns on and stays on. According to ford dealer this is a known issue but has not yet been recalled. Seat belt buckle replaced, air bag diagnostic module replaced, program control module air bag reprogramed. Light continues to turn on. Has a wire harness issue l/f door module srs - wiring loom needs to be replaced.

Turbo gone bad - car began making loud rattle noise when started. Noise would subside some after a few minutes. Car has been very slow to accelerate, whenever it's being driven, over the last few months. Have to really press down all the way on the gas in order to keep it going. The mpg have been steadily declining as well over the last few months. Dealer told me it's a "turbo problem". Was told that 180 other 2012 explorers are also affected, parts on back-order for six weeks. Can't drive car. Repair cost approximately $3500. Ford offering no relief at this point.

Exhaust smell in car

Exhaust fumes in cabin. On a couple of occasions, an odor similar to a rotten egg smell has entered the cabin area while driving. Not quite sure at this time if i was accelerating or if the ac was on the recirculation/fresh air mode when the smell entered. I am concerned about co2 exposure to my family.

I have had the car for 2 years and have had at least 10+ incidents of my car losing all power for acceleration. It has happened on the highway going 65+, it has happened accelerating onto the high way, it has happened on residential streets, it has happened on state highways, it has happened in parking lots. The car suddenly revs super high but pressing the accelerator does absolutely nothing. I have to limp to the side of the road, turn the car off and usually it fixes the issue. But several times i have had to turn it off and restart several times before i have normal control of the car again. I have brought it in several times and every time they tell me unless it is happening at that moment they can't figure out the problem. I have kids in my car most of the time and to suddenly lose power is a tragedy waiting to happen. Today during a routine oil check, it was discovered my ptu is leaking. In a 5 year old car i would not expect this to be the case.

2012 ford explorer releases strong burnt rubber smell when i accelerate or reach 3000 rpms. It is getting worse the more miles i put on my car. Causes myself and my 2 children to feel car sick or have headaches. The only way i can get the smell to go away is to turn off the a/c or heat and roll the windows down. I have mentioned it to local dealership twice now and they have no idea what is causing it but i've told them about the class action lawsuit and they still act like they have never heard of it. The first time i took it to the dealership for the smell the car was also making a noise when the a/c was on so i was told that the repair they did would fix whatever was causing the noise and the smell. I just took it back to the dealership today for an oil change and once again mentioned the smell and they said they have no idea about a burning smell and nobody has had that issue that they know of. Now that i know it is legitimately a concern and my kids and i aren't just actually getting "car sick" i am extremely upset that i'm not being taken seriously. I am supposed to take the car back to the dealership monday to have other issues fixed and i can't wait to see what they tell me now that i have made them aware of the legitimate problem with the exhaust odor.

I abruptly accelerated around a car that maneuvered infront of me and my interior cabin was filled with an nauseating exhaust smell. I got a headache, light headed, and pulled over, because i was starting to get dizzy and develop headaches. This occurred on a highway, and nearly killed me. I am furious.

Turbo failure while driving, large loss of power and potential for an accident. Turbo charger failed on my 2.0l ecoboost engine at 58,000 miles. Turbo failed while in traffic and caused very poor performance and could have easily caused a wreck. Turbo failure does not create a check engine light or give any indication that is has failed other than a large loss of power and the engine continues to run. Turbo failure is sudden and there is no indications prior to it failing. The turbo was not covered by warranty due to vehicles age even though under 60k.

Power steering assist fault show up and the steering wheel is very hard to move. I start and turned off a couple times nothing happens. This is my second time this happen. The first time start working again but now have 2 weeks in may garage without be able of move the car.

Experiencing hard shifts with a thud. Happens when the vehicle is slowing down then when i accelerat there is a delay then a thud when it finally shodts into gear. Apparently i'm not the inly one from what ive heard. I wish ford would fix this issue. I have taken it to garage but they were unable to determine the issue.

The strut mounts on the explorer are faulty. Resulting in a horrible noise when turning or encountering a bump; and possible separation of the strut mount from the vehicle body. I was alerted that in my small community alone, i was one of 5 vehicles of the same year, make and model who have had to replace both strut mounts on the vehicle within the past 6 months. Ford has been alerted to the problem, but seem to take no action in resolving it.

Immediately after ignition is turned on, power steering failure light comes on and steering wheel can barely turn. Turn off ignition and back on again and it is gone. This has happened 5 times in the last 2 months.

The driver's side windshield trim blew off the car while traveling approximately 70 mph on an interstate creating a dangerous projectile for vehicles behind me.

When the shifter is mechanically and securely in park, the vehicle's sensor system does not recognize it is in park. This leads to starting issues nbecasue of two factors: 1. The battery wears down since the car does not completely shut down and 2. Starting the vehicle requires it to be in park which the veichile does not recognize it is in.

I placed a carbon monoxide detector in my vehicle after reading about issues. It has been going off due to high levels of co detected inside my car. The detector only stops beeping when i open all of the windows and turn off the air conditioner. I use a kidde co detector that will alarm if levels are above 30ppm. I have small children in the car most of the time, and i want a recall on this issue to get it fixed and prevent issues with their health or an accident that can endanger both my family and others, as well as fix all explorers with the same issue. The detector goes off when the windows are closed and the air conditioner is on, and when i accelerate.

Leaking exhaust i have been tested and have high levels of carbon dioxide in my blood i now have a battery operated carbon dioxide tester in my vehicle. I pray this protects me. I was so fatigued last summer, i went straight to bed after work. Now i finally know why!

Smells exhaust in the cabin. I have been getting head aches and nausea when i drive. Vehicle in motion and after being in the car i get an exhaust smell and get sick.

I have the similar problem with my exhaust system. Although, no check light is on, when my car is idling or earlier today when i was just driving for awhile with the heat on, i spell a strong exhaust smell in the car.

We have noticed intermittent odors in the cabin. Sulphur smelling odor after accelerating quickly (for example passing, merging). It happens when the heat is on, or off. It has happened intermittently for as long as we can recall however the smell is now (approx. The last year) noticeable just about any time we do highway driving. It almost exclusively happens on the highway. On the infrequent occasion that i need to make a quick acceleration while doing around-town driving, the smell can be noticed. I am currently receiving medical attention for severe symptoms of, what i believe to be, carbon monoxide exposure. Symptoms include extreme fatigue and headaches.

Front strut bearings clunking/ failed. Needed replaced. 55,000 miles. Strong odor of carbon monoxide when accelerating or following large trucks.

The rear brake calipers were not releasing properly after application of the brakes. This led to accelerated wear of the brake pads, overheating of the pads and rotors, and ultimately, non-repairable damage to the rotors. We believe this is a safety issue related to a design flaw that could lead to brake failure, or overheating to the point of creating a fire or explosion hazard.

The co detector i installed (battery operated) sounds if i close my windows for more than a few moments during a trip. My 10 year old son can not ride in my truck as he has vomited several times during trips in the past. The idea that the vehicle i drive is poisoning my son infuriates me. About a year ago i bought 2012 ford explorer xlt with a 2.0 four cylinder eco boost engine from a dealer in akron ohio. I live in rochester, ny. During the first winter months i had the car, when i had the heat on i noticed a strong exhaust smell in the cabin. At first i thought i was crazy because the car was in such great shape, but the more passengers would say the same thing i started to realize it was a real issue. I did some searching online and see that other people have the same issue. When i have the heat on and i put the circulation in recycle mode, it seems to subside the problem a little, but then the recycle mode shuts off and goes into fresh air mode automatically again i get blasted again with these horrible fumes. This happens about every 5 minutes while i am driving and i have to keep hitting recycle and opening up the windows while i am driving to air out the fumes. When i am moving at 50 or more it does not seem to be an issue, i don't know why, but when i come to a stop it is bad, exhaust fumes spew into the cabin. I get headaches all the time while driving. I am afraid to take my kids in the car because of this issue. If i start the car first thing in the morning and i forgot to turn the heat off the night before, the heater kicks in when i start it and it is bad. This morning it snowed here in rochester so i went out and started the car and let it warm up for 5 minutes, when i came out it smelled so bad i couldn't even get in. I had to rolls down the windows and let it air out, and even then when i came to work today i have had a headache all day and i smell like an exhaust stack. Please help me. I love the car, except for the fumes issue.

The airbag light stays on continuously despite being checked. I see that this is a known problem with the airbag but no recall has been issued. I don't have anything under my seat to affect the units being unplugged

Paint "bubbling" has taken place on the lift gate in the vicinity of the lift gate handle. The bubbling has enlarged significantly since i first discovered it in december of 2016. No accident. Normal operation and use by a private individual

Power steering on the vehicle has failed on and off. I find out tomorrow what kind of service bill i am going to be hit with when they attempt the recall. This recall has been around since 2014 and i was never notified of it! If this had happened while my wife was actually driving the car it could have caused a major accident! *tr
