  • Recall 243993 [USA]: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
    Hyundai motor america (hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 elantra, genesis coupe, sonata hybrid, 2012-2015 accent, azera, veloster, 2013-2015 elantra coupe, santa fe, 2014-2015 equus, 2010-2012 veracruz, 2010-2013 tucson, 2015 tucson fuel cell, and 2013 santa fe sport vehicles. The anti-lock brake system (abs) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
    owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the abs fuse, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed november 1, 2023. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available beginning april 10, 2024.   • Recall 145511 [USA]: An inoperative charging system can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
    Hyundai motor america (hyundai) is recalling certain 2007-2012 veracruz vehicles that were previously recalled under recall number 14v-415. Oil may leak from the front cylinder bank cover gasket, potentially dripping onto the alternator and causing the charging system to become inoperative.

  • Recall 104862 [USA]: If the alternator is damaged, the charging system warning lamp in the instrument cluster will illuminate, and the engine will lose power and the vehicle will eventually stop operating while being driven. an unexpected failure of motive power while driving increases the risk of a crash.
    Hyundai motor company (hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2007-2012 veracruz vehicles manufactured from december 26, 2006, through july 24, 2012. The affected vehicles may experience an oil leak from the front cylinder bank valve cover gasket. If there is a sufficient amount of oil dropped onto the alternator, the alternator will be damaged causing the charging system to become inoperative.
    hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect/repair or replace the alternator and the front valve cover gasket, free of charge.   • Recall 92747 [USA]: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. additionally, when the ignition is in the 'on' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of park without first applying the brake. this may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
    Hyundai motor company (hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 accent, model year 2007-2011 azera, sonata and sante fe,2006-2011 tucson, 2009-2011 elantra touring, 2007-2010 elantra, 2008-2011 veracruz, 2009-2011 genesis, 2010-2011 genesis coupe, 2007-2008 entourage, and 2006-2008 tiburon vehicles. Originally, in april 2013, hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 accent and tucson, model year 2007-2010 elantra, model year 2007-2011 santa fe, model year 2008-2009 veracruz, model year 2010-2011 genesis coupe, and model year 2011 sonata vehicles. In september 2013, hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the park position and cause the electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light to illuminate.

  • Recall 94387 [USA]: Without the circuit protection, the module can overheat possibly resulting in a fire.
    Curt manufacturing is recalling certain tow package wiring harnesses, part number 56024, that connect tow vehicle lighting circuits to trailer lighting circuits sold for use on certain model year 2009 through 2011 hyundai veracruz and kia sorento vehicles. The units are not water-tight and moisture can seep into the converter module and defeat the module's internal circuit protection.

  • Recall 2020549 [Canada]: Engine
    Issue: on certain vehicles, engine oil can leak from the valve cover onto the alternator. If this happens, the charging system could stop working and cause a warning light to turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with this problem, the engine could shut off while driving, and you may not be able to restart it. Note: this recall replaces r0090 (transport canada recall 2014-297). Vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety risk: a sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to have an oil protector installed. Note: if the battery charging indicator light is on, hyundai recommends that you should arrange to have the vehicle inspected and repaired at a dealer immediately.

  • Recall 2020233 [Canada]: Electrical
    Issue: certain vehicles may be equipped with an accessory trailer wiring harness kit that could fail. Over time, this could result in a short circuit that can cause overheating of the control module. Note: this recall only affects hyundai genuine accessory trailer wiring harness kits that were manufactured by third parties and sold in canada. These kits may have been ordered at the time of a vehicle purchase, or purchased separately from a dealer as an aftermarket accessory. Safety risk: a short circuit could create a fire risk. This risk remains even when the vehicle is parked. Corrective actions: hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to inspect your vehicle to see if it has an affected trailer wiring harness installed. If it does, hyundai will advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install a redesigned trailer wiring harness. Hyundai recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

  • Recall 2014297 [Canada]: Engine
    This recall was replaced by transport canada recall no. 2020-549. On certain vehicles, engine oil can leak onto the alternator, which could affect charging system function and potentially cause the engine to stall and not restart. This would result in a loss of motive power as well as affect power braking and power steering system function, which would unexpectedly increase steering and brake pedal effort, potentially increasing stopping distances and the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the front valve cover gasket and repair/replace the alternator, as necessary.

    On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may fail and cause intermittent operation of the brake lights.   • Hyundai and kia abs module fires investigation as of 20231117

    The office of defects investigation (odi) has received eight hyundai motor america (hyundai) and eight kia america, inc. (kia) part 573 recall reports between 2016 and 2023. The combined 16 safety recalls all involve the antilock braking system (abs) modules or hydraulic electronic control units (hecu) manufactured by the equipment supplier mando. The part 573 recall reports contain varying defect descriptions and differing remedy descriptions for the same or similar equipment supplied by mando. Safety recalls included in this audit query (aq) review include: hyundai recalls 20v-520, 20v-543, 21v-161, 21v-160, 21v-303, 22v-056, 22v-810, and 23v-651. At about 60mph in a passing lane going up a fairly steep hill, i pressed the accelerator to downshift while passing. The accelerator pedal pulled away from my foot toward the floor. The car began uncontrollably accelerating. I was able to override this with the brakes, but each time i took my foot off the brake the car again downshifted and accelerated maximally. This was repeated at least five times. Shifting into neutral resulted in a high revving engine on three occasions. Turning cruise control on and off or canceling had no effect. I was able to stay on the brakes and get off the highway. I then shifted into neutral and the engine started over revving. I then turned off the ignition and restarted the car, which to this point is behaving normally. The floor mat was not interfering with the accelerator. The accelerator distinctly pulled away from my foot and went to the floor. There was no pedal confusion.

The dealer was unable to determine when a remedy would become available. The consumer stated the vehicle was emitting a toxic odor from the rear area. We purchased the vehicle in 2016 from a dealer with a known recall because of an oil leak. That was fixed in the first month of purchase. Fast forward to summer of 2019, we have the same issue. We purchased a new alternator ourselves after finding the first one terribly messy with oil, replaced it, and continued on. The oil leak continued. Jump to christmas 2020, it dies again. Replaced the battery and the alternator this time. Less than 2 weeks later we get a letter stating there is a recall and they're working on a fix. It is now may 2021 and no fix has been announced. With the amount of travel we've done over the last 2 years (less than 20k miles), you'd think it would hold a while longer. Think again. This week the alternator dies again and i have an appointment set for 3 weeks from today with a hyundai dealership, and no recall in sight. I'm getting pretty frustrated with hyundai as they know about the problem, tried to patch it up 5 years ago, and just now are finding that the fix didn't work for a handful of vehicles. We are out of a car and hyundai isn't taking any responsibility for it. Luckily my family is handy and we can replace parts like this in just a few hours on a weekend, but a part that's supposed to last for years has been replaced 3 times in the last 2 years. Unacceptable.

Recall 197: no fix yet? 2011 veracruz awd limited may 19, 2021 car quit operating. Shut down after little warning. Instrument panel lit up indicating some sort of problem, then no power. Unable to restart. Had veracruz towed to the nearest repair shop east county auto on hwy 12 ( glenoma, wa) only 33 miles from breakdown. Feel like this car is unsafe, and hoping to get a fix so it can be safe. Hyundai says a fix is coming in a recent letter, but i have a problem with this car now. Will proceed with diagnostic efforts, repair if possible, and wait for hyundai permanent fix or reimbursement. Feel that hyundai is responsible for an immediate solution to this problem. Lives are on the line!

This recall notice has been out for almost 6 months now and there is still no remedy or any help from hyundai corporate or local dealerships. My car has been sitting un-useable for the past month because of this recall and no dealership will take my car. I have called hyundai usa and there is nothing they can do for me. This recall has gone for far too long.

The vehicle was towed an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator had failed and needed to be replaced. The alternator was replaced and the failure was remedied. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact indicated that the vehicle had previously been serviced under the nhtsa campaign number: 20v705000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the failure occurred. The failure mileage was 64,000.

I received a recall notification from huundai motor america regarding a safety recall with engines leaking oil from the front cylinder bank's valve cover onto the alternator. As a result, it damaged the alternator resulting disablement of the charging system. The engine shut off and cna increase the risk of crash. I took it in to the dealership and called their customer service (3/18/21 case # 18073112) and they said they have no resolution. Now, my car is completely not drivable. I have to take it to a mechanic shop to replace the gasket and alternator. I firmly believe that hyndai motor should be responsible for the cost.

As a result, it damaged the alternator resulting disablement of the charging system. The engine shut off and cna increase the risk of crash. I took it in to the dealership and called their customer service (3/18/21 case # 18073112) and they said they have no resolution. Now, my car is completely not drivable. I have to take it to a mechanic shop to replace the gasket and alternator. I firmly believe that hyndai motor should be responsible for the cost.

My car alternator shorted out while i am driving on interstate 95 resulting in extreme power loss, very hard steering, unsafe vehicle control which finally ended in complete loss of power. Car towed to dealer which diagnosed an undetected oil leak from the valve cover dripped into alternator causing it to short out. Valve gasket was changed and alternator replaced. There was a recall for this issue for some of 2011 hyundai veracruz cars but not mine based on hyundai company i checked. My car issue is the exactly the same problem and my car should be in the recall list. This cannot be detected by dealer visual inspection prior to failure. This is very unsafe. I have all maintenance done at the dealership i purchased the car at according to the maintenance schedule and the dealer recommendations. This should require a recall before someone gets hurts in an accident.

We purchased this car new. It has been to the dealer 5 times or more for the repair of an engine oil leak that saturates the alternator resulting in its failure. They have resealed the engine oil pan the first time. Second, third, forth, and fifth time they replaced the front engine valve cover gasket. The last time they followed the recommended procedure as outlined by hyundai that was mandated by ntsb as a recall. However the oil leak still remains. Upon our last visit in november 2018 the hyundai service shop determined that the oil leak is from the front engine cover (timing cover). They submitted a request to hyundai corporate to make the repair under warranty. Corporate advised that the repair should have been made under the vehicles warranty period. Now that the vehicle is out of warranty they have no obligation to pay for the repairs. Plus because it is not related to the valve cover and that repair has already been performed, they have meat their obligations. My complaint is that part of the mandated ntsb repair does involve a portion of the engine cover, but apparently applying a layer of sealant across the seam of the cover does not resolve the issue. Therefore this is still a safety hazard and we are looking at replacing a 3rd alternator.

While i was driving my vehicle, the battery light came on and quickly i lost power and my ability to control the vehicle. I was able to get it to the side of the road and towed. The alternator was replace and car was driving fine. 2 weeks later, the battery light came back on. I inspected the alternator and could see oil visible on the alternator. I did some quick research and found that there was a recall for a valve gasket leak onto the alternator on my 2011 hyundai veracruz, that had been fixed in 2014. Now having the same exact issue. Hyundai of chantilly, va confirmed, but will not cover charges to repair. This is extremely dangerous, as i was driving with my 2 year old twins when the car shut down.

Nhtsa campaign #14v415000 was issues for recall of faulty valve cover gasket that can leak and short out alternator, causing loss of power while driving. Our veracruz has now had this valve cover replaced three times since this recall was issued, twice now in the last year. This time, 4/2018, the alternator was shorted out and caused loss of power while vehicle was is motion on city street. Hyundai has repaired faulty parts again, however, they have yet to have a valid fix for the problem. The repairs have only been a bandaid, as same problem keeps occurring. I believe there should be an additional recall issued till hyundai comes up with valid fix for the dangerous problem.

It is now occurring again; however, i was told it is out of warranty. My research finds that this is a common problem with some hyundai models and hyundai is not offering to resolve it. This is a safety issue that should be addressed.

While i started to cross a busy hwy my veracruz did not respond and would not go faster than 20 mph. All my dashbord lights came on and off several times then the car would not go more than 5 mph. I was able to make it to the hyundai dealership where the car would not go on park even after trying the overide swithch. Eventually the car started shaking and it shut off. Once they were able to diagnose the problem they had to replace the alternator and a new battery (battery was a year old but had to be replaced due to the alternator malfuction killed the battery). All this cost about600.00. The mechanic said the notice about the alternator not working correctly is the battery light should've come on wich that never happend. It's a safety hazard for the alternator just to go off like that in a busy hwy it almost caused an accident. Ialso asked if it had anything to do with the recall about oil leaking in to alternator and they said no. I get my car back and now it sounds like there's a faulty contact in the signal light stlak wich sounds very scary about to explode/cause an electrical fire.

While driving i noticed the battery light going on. I parked it for the night and began to drive it the next day. After driving for a few minutes, i noticed the battery light going on again. The radio began to turn off and on, and many different lights on the dash began to flash. I decided to return home to prevent getting stranded. As i turned around, i noticed that i began to lose power in the vehicle although i was trying to accelerate. I made it home and parked the car. I tried to start it later and the battery was now dead even thought the battery is less than a year old. I decided to do some research online and noticed others having similar issues in regards to this and having an oil leak. This reminded me that when i had an oil change recently, i was told of an oil leak hitting the alternator. I have researched my vin only to find no recalls for it although i am experiencing similar symptoms of recall 121 for hyundai. This is a very dangerous issue, because i was losing power as i was driving on the streets trying to get home. Some streets were small residential and some were larger streets.

Hyundai announced the following recall in november 2020. To date they have done nothing to remedy the problem. My vehicle had this problem and failed while driving on the freeway in 2016. I repaired the problem back then at my expense but my vehicle should be assessed by hyundai and cleared or additional repairs made. I am waiting over 6 months for a remedy on a recall that was originally announced in 2014 and reissued in 2020 because of hyundai's failure to adequately address the problem. My vehicle was parked on the hill of our driveway with the emergency brake on as usual. The gear shift clearly came out of park and into reverse due to a malfunction based on the following events: while getting out of my vehicle like usual to get my kids out and in the house, my truck rolled back while i had my four year old in my hand and my two year old still in his car seat. I was 26 weeks pregnant, and my son and i both got hurt in the process. My husband is a mechanic and he thinks that the shift lever mesh should be able to withstand sticky substances from beverages due to its close proximity to the vehicle cup holder. 'this is a design flaw due to the fact that the shifter mesh which is designed to protect the operation of the shift lever from obstruction became bunched up and impeded the operation of the shift lever. When the shift lever mesh became sticky and began to bunch up and stick to itself causing the shift lever to not fully engage into the intended gear. Therefore if the shift lever was not fully engaged the transmission was not fully engaged in gear thus creating a safety hazard of potential rollback' [xxx], 2015. The vehicle already had issues with the shift lever assembly not fully engaging thus preventing me from fully putting the truck in park so that i can turn the ignition switch off completely. This issue was experienced numerous times by myself, my husband, my mother, my brother, the tow truck driver, and the hyundai service man. This accident could have caused us our lives. While driving to work at 55 mph my 2011 hyundai veracruz made a clunk sound from the engine area and starting dropping speed to around 20mph the check engine light illuminated as well. When i pressed the acceleration it would not accelerate but the car still stayed steady at 20 mph. I pulled over to get out of traffic and turned the car off. I started it back and pulled out and it seemed to correct itself? After another 4-5 miles at same speed it did the same thing once again bit this time i was in heavy traffic on a very busy hwy. I limped to the next exit and turned the car off. I had my car towed to dealership ($225) where they was unable to reproduce the problem?? They said that they could not find any codes? Took car back home and sure enough, the same thing happened. Took back to hyundai in hickory, nc and once again they could not find the cause and tried to say it could possibly be bad gas? They did offer to keep the car overnight so they could drive it. They called the next day and said that it did the same thing with them on a test run and recommended that i allow them to service the throttle body. I agreed, car was ready the next day, drove home and.....Yes once again the same exact thing. I have paid over $700 counting the tow and still the same issues. Took it back to dealership and they said they needed to replace the throttle body????? Now i am usually a very easy going person but they just too $484 from me for a repair that did nothing. They did offer to take $100 off the labor so bottom line is i had no choice. Car was ready two days later since they had to wait for the part. Drove home and all is fine $862.91 to repair the throttle body. Two days later, same issue. *js

Vehicle driven on highway at 60 mph and engine check sign came on, then car sign as antitheft sign appeared than tpc sign and navigation direction sign in mirror all kept blinking on and off. Vehicle started to slow down but speedometer stuck to 60 mph. Vehicle dropped speed gradually and i was afraid that other vehicles coming behind at full speed may hit my vehicle if they are not aware of my vehicle slowing down. I had to pulled the vehicle in shoulder lane and started my emergency blinkers on. Blinkers were going on and off and warning bell were also going on and off. Damaged the battery of my vehicle. Contact hyundai customer care center and they informed me that the recall campaign 121 does not have remedy to this recall. This is very unsafe and cause an accident, crash, fire or serious injury or fatality, since it affecting to the speed of the vehicle and speedometer dose not responds to the current speed of vehicle. On page 5-6 the instructions manual clearly states that the key must be in the vehicle, the ignition switch must be turned and the break must be depressed for the car to start. It further states that the car should be serviced immediately if its operation deviates from the prescribed instructions. The car will start by only adhering to the first two parts of the instruction, which is to have the key present in the car and turning the ignition switch. The danger is it starts without pressing and holding the brake. The instructions for starting the vehicle is located in a yellow warning box and hyundai states that to ignore a warning can result in serious bodily injury or death. *tr

Following email sent to hyundai dear sir: i have a 2011 vercruz with 27499 miles that i have loved until january 19, 2014. While traveling at 50mph, the car suffered catastrophic loss of all electrical power: no power straining, no power brakes, no engine power. It could not be restarted. By researching the net, i have learned that this problem has been described many times before. An oil gasket leaks that drips oil on the alternator producing loss of all electrical power and a dead engine. My dealer, l------n hyundai, did the repair work, only charging me for the depleted battery. Nor were tow charges reimbursed. They concluded that oil had leaked from the gasket, destroying the alternator. I regard this has a serious safety issue. If the problem recurs for me, or for others; serious injury or loss of life could result. I request that you issue a national recall and permanent fix for this problem. Unfortunately, i do not know the exact first date of incidence, so i put todays date. Since purchasing my 2011 veracruz i have had to deal with the tpms light turning on frequently while i am driving. On more than one occasion i have brought the car to the service department and each time, there has been nothing wrong with the system. As was reported to me by my service advisor, there is a known defect that the tpms light goes on when something is being charged. As silly as this sounds, i understand that it is not the service departments problem, so i only charge when necessary. However, the tpms light continues to go on, even when there is nothing in the charger. When this light turns on, i immediately become anxious and concerned about my safety and the safety of my passengers. According to the drivers manual, i should bring my car to service asap when the light is on. At this point, it is impossible to keep doing this as i work full time and have children to get to school, work and other activities. > > > > today, driving with my family, the tpms went on yet again. This vehicle suffers from design/manufacture defect. The valve cover gasket is defective. It leaks oil which fouls the alternator resulting in catastrophic loss of electrical systems including transmission function and steering control. My service employee was well aware of this malfunction previously reported by other owners. He knew exactly what the problem was as soon as i described these events. I purchase this vehicle in 2011, ever since the first month of ownership the tpms light continuously goes on and off. I have had the vehicle in to the hyundai service center numerous times, roughly once a month for over a year, for this very problem. Today, 12/28/12, my vehicle is back in the shop. I was called by the service manager and told that there was a bulletin they received regarding this light from hyundai. They said that "any radio or magnetic wave interference" or "other electronic devices" can cause this light to come on. That there is no fix and i just need to have the car checked when it comes on to make sure there is nothing really wrong or ignore the light if i feel everything is alright. I find this "fix" very unsatisfactory. I put my children in this vehicle on a daily basis. If i "ignore" the light as told i am potentially putting myself, my passengers, and other drivers on the road at risk. If something were really wrong with my tires i could have a major accident. Especially since the light tends to go off while on the interstate which is 75 mph speeds. It is not feasible to expect me to take the car into the dealer and have it checked everytime this happens as it most days happens every day. The only offer from the supervisor at hyundai was for him to offer me a free oil change for my trouble. This is a potential safety issue that i do not consider mild enough to ignore. I do not like placing myself or my passengers at risk unnecessarily. *tr

In the 2.5 years i've owned my 2011 hyundai veracruz, 4 door handles have broken from the inside. The first happened within a year of owning the car and was the driver's side door. The handle became embedded into the door and could not be pulled. The door could only be opened from the outside (or by rolling down the window and reaching my arm outside through window and pulling on the handle from the outside). This presents a serious safety risk in that the driver is unable to get out of the vehicle quickly in an emergency. The dealership replaced the handle and said they had never seen it happen before. Since then it has happened 3 more times (passenger door, rear door on passenger side, and again on driver's side). I have no children and am usually the only one driving the vehicle, so it doesn't receive much wear and tear. When the rear door handle broke, the door was unable to be opened from the inside or the outside. Can you imagine having a child in the car and being unable to get to them? This time when the driver's side door broke again, it also quit responding to lock/unlock button pushes, making the situation even more unsafe. The hyundai dealership has said that it is a poorly designed part and that it will continue to happen but that there is not a new part and that, once my warranty expires, i will have to pay for all of these repairs myself. They also had no comment about my safety concerns with the vehicle. Having the driver or passengers be unable to exit the car quickly is a very serious safety concern and this needs to be addressed. I pulled into a gas station at a low speed; there were four pumps in line. At the first one a car was being fueled so i waned to move to the second pump. When i started to brake the car kept moving forward then i was practically standing on the brake but the car kept moving causing me to hit the stationary car. According to the police report her damage was minor; mine was moderate. The officer stated in the report i was inattentive regardless of me telling him twice about the braking and/or acceleration problem. Hyundai sent an "independent" tech after the car was repaired and they said it was not their problem. I requested that company inspection from the first day of the accident; i was informed it would take 4 to 6 weeks. This is a safety issue; my foot was firmly on the brake that morning. Since about 800 miles the tpms light has been coming on and stays lit for a while and then shuts off,. On a recent trip, the light came on and off more than 10 times. This is a safety issue since we do not know if the tire pressure is low or not. The dealer and hyundai says they cannot repair it or do anything unless the light is on when we get to their shop. High and low beam head lights are not adjustable individually. Choice #1=low beam at proper angle and high beam aimed at the top of trees ahead. Choice #2= high beam straight ahead and low beam 20 feet ahead of vehicle. Either way is unsafe. Hyundai knows of this problem but do not want to do anything about even though there is a remedy published in the internet.
