Engine Oil Drain Plug ➢ Do not use generic aftermarket drain plugs which may have different thread depth and flange specifications than the OE part design. ➢ Tightening torque: 39 Nm. (29 lb.-ft) 2. Remove the old washer from the drain plug and always use a new drain plug washer. OE (Good) Aftermarket (NG) Drain Plug Washer ➢ The drain plug washer is a one-time use crush type gasket. Do not reuse this part. NEW (Good) 3. OLD (Discard) Prior to reinstalling the engine oil drain plug with a new washer, check the drain hole of the oil pan thoroughly to confirm that there is no old washer stuck on the opening. Remove if found. Circulate To: General Manager, Service Manager, Parts Manager, Warranty Manager, Service Advisors, Technicians, Body Shop Manager, Fleet Repair SUBJECT: 4. ENGINE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE SERVICE GUIDELINES For engine with spin-on type oil filters, check the oil filter mounting flange thoroughly to confirm that there is no old gasket stuck on the flange. Remove if found. ➢ With a clean shop towel, wipe off the sealing area of the flange and the center threads. 5. Apply light film of oil to the sealing gasket of the spin-on type oil filter, then prefill the filter with some engine oil through the center threaded hole (to help supply initial oil pressure upon restart). Thread on the oil filter and firmly hand-tighten. Do not overtorque during the installation. ➢ Tightening torque: 13.7 Nm. (10 lb.-ft) 6. Refill the engine with oil following the Shop Manual regarding the appropriate service grade and viscosity of engine oil. Optimum Fill Level ➢ Use the latest available API Service Grade ➢ Use the recommended engine oil viscosity o If the specified engine oil viscosity is unavailable at the time, use 5W-30 viscosity engine oil with the latest API Service Grade. 7. When all services are done, fully tighten the oil filler cap until several “clicks” can be heard. ➢ Wipe clean the surrounding areas of any spilled oil. TSB #: 23-EM-005H Page 2 of 2 SUBJECT:
