• Recall 92748 [USA]: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. additionally, when the ignition is in the 'on' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of park without first applying the brake. this may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
  Hyundai motor company (hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 accent, model year 2007-2011 azera, sonata and sante fe,2006-2011 tucson, 2009-2011 elantra touring, 2007-2010 elantra, 2008-2011 veracruz, 2009-2011 genesis, 2010-2011 genesis coupe, 2007-2008 entourage, and 2006-2008 tiburon vehicles. Originally, in april 2013, hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 accent and tucson, model year 2007-2010 elantra, model year 2007-2011 santa fe, model year 2008-2009 veracruz, model year 2010-2011 genesis coupe, and model year 2011 sonata vehicles. In september 2013, hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the park position and cause the electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light to illuminate.

  Curt manufacturing is recalling certain tow package wiring harnesses, part number 55538, that connect tow vehicle lighting circuits to trailer lighting circuits sold for use on certain model year 2009 through 2011 hyundai santa fe vehicles. The units are not water-tight and moisture can seep into the converter module and defeat the module's internal circuit protection.

An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Safety risk: a sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire.   On certain vehicles, the rear brake calipers may not have been properly machined and, as a result, brake fluid will leak due to improper sealing. If this occurs, the low brake fluid level warning light on the instrument panel will illuminate indicating that the brake fluid level should be attended to by the driver. If the vehicle continues to be driven with the low brake fluid level warning light illuminated, the driver will experience a soft or spongy brake pedal.   The office of defects investigation (odi) has received a petition on july 13, 2022, requesting a defect investigation into an alleged defect of the "oil drain pan assemblies" on the following 83 models/model year vehicles stated by the petitioner: 2006-2019 hyundai sonata, 2013-2018 hyundai santa fe sport, 2010-2012 and 2019-2020 hyundai santa fe, 2010-2015 and 2018-2019 hyundai tucson, 2011-2021 kia sportage 2005-2020 kia optima, 2011-2020 kia sorento, 2010-2013 kia forte, 2010-2013,kia forte coup, and 2007-2010 kia rondo vehicles equipped with the 1.6l t-gdi gamma, 2.4l theta ii gdi, 2.4l in-line gdi theta ii, kappa, and 3.8l v-shaped gdi lambda-ii engines. The petition also cites additional hyundai/kia vehicles that use similar drain pan assemblies as the above-mentioned vehicles as having drain pan assembly failures. The petitioner provided subject and peer vehicles information related to alleged engine failures.   The office of defects investigation of the national highway traffic safety administration received a petition letter dated october 10, 2021 requesting an investigation of an alleged defect(s) in the electronic throttle control system in certain model year (my) 2005-2016 kia optima/k5, my 2006-2015 kia sorento, my 2007-2016 hyundai elantra, my 2007-2016 hyundai santa fe, my 2006-2015 hyundai sonata vehicles. The petition was filed as a vehicle owner questionnaire that can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under reference (odi) number 11439675. The petitioners allege the subject vehicles exhibit a range of dangerous vehicle speed control problems including sudden uncommanded acceleration, runaway throttle conditions, surging, stalling and loss of motive power, all due to various defects and vulnerabilities in the electronic throttle control system.This defect petition has been opened to evaluate the allegation and determine whether to grant or deny the petitioners request.

• Non-crash vehicle fires investigation # PE19003

  In a letter dated jun 11, 2018, the center for auto safety (cas) petitioned the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) to initiate a safety defect investigation into non-collision related fires on model year (my) 2011-2014 kia optima and sorento, and hyundai sonata and santa fe vehicles.In a letter dated july 24, 2018, cas requested that my 2010-2015 kia soul vehicles be added to the petition.Cas stated that there is a higher number of complaints to nhtsa regarding non-crash fires on these vehicles compared to other similar vehicles.The office of defects investigation (odi) had already opened a recall query (rq17-004) on all hyundai vehicles equipped with theta ii engines for engine failures that may cause stalling and fires.The query covers most of the petition subject sonata and santa fe vehicles.On august 21, 2018, odi opened a defect petition (dp18-003) to evaluate whether to grant or deny the cas petition.Odi sent an information request letter to hyundai (september 2018) requesting information on all engine and non-engine related fires in the petition hyundai vehicles.Odi performed extensive analysis on the information obtained from hyundai.During the dp18-003 analysis, hyundai initiated three additional safety recalls related to engine compartment fires on certain petitioned and non-petitioned vehicles, (nearly 240,000 total vehicles: recalls 18v-934, 19v-063, and 19v-204). In addition to engine compartment fires, odi has received allegations of vehicle fires affecting other components, including taillight housings, taillight wire harnesses, and/or light bulbs. Based on odis review of the applicable materials, including responses to information requests sent to multiple manufacturers, vehicle owner questionnaires (voq), and early warning data, nhtsa has decided to grant the petition.The petition is hereby granted. A preliminary evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency, and potential safety-related consequences of alleged defects relating to non-collision vehicle fires in the 2011-2014 sonata and 2011-2014 santa fe.While prior recalls of vehicles covered by this pe have primarily related to engine fires, nhtsas preliminary evaluation is not limited to engine components and may cover additional vehicle systems or components as well.Attached is a list of the reference numbers for the 160 voqs cited above.

• Steering shaft universal joint failure investigation # PE12029

  The office of defects investigation (odi) opened pe12-029 based on one complaint alleging that a fastener became loose in the steering shaft of a model year (my) 2011 hyundai santa fe vehicle and related early warning reporting field report data.In its response to odis information request letter for pe12-029, hyundai identified a total of four incidents of steering shaft universal joint failure in early production my 2011 santa fe vehicles, including the incidents that had been identified by odi. Two of the failures occurred at low mileage early in 2011, shortly after vehicle sale, leading to hyundais initial investigation.Hyundai attributed the failures to operator error at the vehicle assembly plant in failing to fully assemble the universal joint to the steering column shaft before tightening the universal pinch bolt.The company inspected 680 vehicles at the assembly plant as part of its initial investigation and found no additional indications of improper steering shaft assembly. Hyundai implemented changes in the assembly process to ensure proper steering shaft assembly, including the use of a "go/no go" gap gauge to ensure that the universal joint knuckle is fully assembled to the steering column shaft before being fastened.Hyundai believes that the improper assembly affected only a few vehicles and that joints that were not properly assembled should have already failed and the likelihood of additional failures is remote.None of the failures involved vehicles produced after the gap gauge implementation on april 27, 2011 and no additional failures have been reported since october 2012.Hyundai will notify odi if any additional failures are reported to the company through the end of 2013.A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.The agency will take further action if warranted by the circumstances.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

When trying to start the truck using the remote starter the area where the turning switch is stared to smoke and the smell of burning wire was smelt and the sound like my hazard light was heard i turned the truck off then turn it back on the noise was gone. The truck was stationary( park) and the turning switch was not being used, and the headlight was off . I was trying to warm the truck up.

When i am driving the car simply stops on the road. The vehicle reduces the velocity to 5mph and other cars coming in my back have to stop also stop or move to the other line to avoid collition. At this moment we can't be in the road safety. I have noticed that this problem is a reason for recall yet. My car is a 2012 model with 64k miles! Another problem is the car jerked when i want to park so the car does not change from drive to park or reverse.

Steering wheel left side deteriorating. Hole already. Concerned it may come apart causing an accident. I reported to browns hyundai where i have has service for 10 years. My extended warranty was 10 years and 100,000 miles. Under 10 years but over mileage.
