Writer has a 2003 sonata. My drivers rear caliper would wear down the brake pads very fast and the others would be like new. After 2 visits the caliper was replaced. After 2 days of sitting in the garage i'd back the car up and hear grinding. The dealer said it was just rust on the rotor and it stopped after driving a few minutes. After being put in storage over the summer to drive my sports car during the summer i went to driver the sonata. While sitting in the warehouse during summer all four rotors rusted up beyond being able to drive the car safely. And the front calipers seized up. The rotors looked like the car had 150,000 miles on it. I have my sports car stored in the same place through winter and the brakes and rotors are fine in spring. The general manager from the dealer says they will check it out and see what can be done. The car only has 50000 mile on it. I've never seen a cars rotors and brakes do this. Neither has the mechanics i first took it to. The mechanic drove it and had to use the emergency brake to stop the car. *tr

My 2003 hyundai santa fe has 71,000 miles on it and i'm having problems with the clutch. Now from doing a little research online i find that i am not the only one. I am a part time student, and work a full time job, but replacing my clutch is a bit expensive and i do not believe that i can afford it. If many people are having clutch or transmission problems shouldn't there be a recall? *jb

Purchased vehicle 9-5-03. First occurrence of violent engine surges occurred on 9-18-03. Dealership could not duplicate the problem ,and told me it should be okay. Engine surges/shifts occurred randomly over the next few months with another dangerous occurrence in december 2005 at crowded shopping mall. Dealership each time told me that unless they could duplicate the problem they would not be able to fix it. Following a trip to dealership in february 2005 dealership changed accelerator sensor which seemed to help somewhat, but speedometer went out in may. Told by dealership that would not able to fix problem(s) unless problem could be duplicated. Took vehicle in for 34-point check , and speedometer problem in october. Picked up repaired vehicle next day, however, speedometer on zero again and check engine light came on. Vehicle towed back to dealership, who changed transmission to correct problem. Picked up vehicle on 11-8-05 following repair. On 11-18-05 while slowing down at approach to busy intersection had to use both feet to bring vehicle to stop and almost hit car ahead of me. Car violently lurched forward until put in neutral, engine revved so hard i thought it was going to blow up. Turned engine off, and had vehicle towed back to dealership, who called me on 11-22-05 and told me vehicle had been repaired, but upon examination of service order, found no servicing had been done. December 12, 2005 hyundai consumer affairs had a regional service technician perform 15 minute test drive of my vehicle. Technician stated based on his inspection there wa s nothing wrong with vehicle. Car was returned to me on january 10 2006, and sits in my driveway. I am frightened to drive it, not wanting to risk my life or others while i continue to send in monthly payments. *ak

2003 hyundai tiburon gt v6 2.7 liter purchased used with approx. 40,000 miles on it. Purchased extended warranty from dealership. 2 1/2 weeks later the clutch went out. Towed back to dealership. Told that clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel needed to be replaced $1900 not covered under warranty. Told that was due to driving habits. Found out through researching looking for replacement parts that there is a tsb 04-40-005 related to this problem with a "cause code" of "deformed". Our car falls under all the conditions on this bulletin, however, the dealership will still not repair the car. Called hyundai motor america who told me that they were aware of the problem; however, had not decided to do a recall or to offset any costs of repairing these problems at this time. There were "looking into" the problem. Found many other complaints of other consumers who have had this identical problem with this identical vehicle. *jb

My hyundai 2003 xg 350 had incidents of lurching powerfully forward or backward even though my foot would be pressed hard on the brakes. It happened three times. The third time it did it, i had it in reverse with my foot on the brakes and while my wife was trying to enter the car on the passenger seat side, the car rabbit jumbed backward and cause her injuries that warranted taking her to the emergency room on september 12 2005. I searched the internet and found out that many other owners had the same exact experience and that they all had trouble convincing hyundai of the problem. If they can't duplicate the behavior then they refuse to fix the porblem. I try to duplicate the behavior and it took me about 15 tries to succeed. Some internet complainers report that they succeeded in convincing the dealership of the problem and had to replace the whole transmission for them. Hyunday should admit the problem and recall cars.
