• Recall 87397 [USA]: If that happens, the vehicle may lose drive power to the wheels, and the front wheel may make contact with the fender or wheel well, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
  Hyundai is recalling 188,282 my 2001-2004 sonata and my 2001-2004 xg300 and xg350 vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. Road salt applied in these jurisdictions during the winter months may result in progressive, internal corrosion of the front sub-frame on the vehicles, and may result in thinning or perforation of the sub-frame steel. The corrosion is frequently visible and often discovered during inspection or routine maintenance, and owners may also hear noises or notice tire misalignment and steering pull. If these signals are undetected or unheeded, the corrosion may progress and the forward mounting of the lower control arm may detach from the sub-frame.
  dealers will measure the thickness of the front sub-frame and inspect the front sub-frame for corrosion damage and, if necessary, the front sub-frame will be replaced with a new sub-frame that incorporates additional holes in the upper and lower panels. If the front sub-frame does not require replacement, the dealer will add drainage holes to the sub-frame and will treat the sub-frame with rust-proofing material to stop the corrosion process.   Certain passenger vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 301, "fuel system integrity" a valve on the fuel tank assembly may not close properly. • Recall 2009123 [Canada]: Structure
  On certain vehicles operated in areas of heavy road salt usage (ontario, quebec, new brunswick, nova scotia, prince edward island, and newfoundland & labrador), road salt can collect in the rear portion of the side members of the subframe and may result in internal corrosion leading to thinning or perforation of the subframe steel. The corrosion may ultimately lead to separation of the lower control arm at the forward mounting point to the subframe. When separation occurs, in most cases, the movement of the arm will cause the axle to pull out of the transaxle and the vehicle will no longer have drive power to the wheels. In extreme cases, the wheel can also rotate off its designed axis and make contact with the fender or the wheel well. Both outcomes could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the front subframe assembly. Should the subframe not require replacement, drainage holes will be added, as well as treatment with rust-proofing material to arrest the corrosion process.

Tl* the contact owns a 2002 hyundai xg350. The contact stated that the driver's side rear upper control arm detached from the frame due to corrosion. The contact also stated that he noticed the driver's side rear tire leaning. The contact also stated that the frame was corroded. The vehicle was not yet taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The contact called mccarthy blue springs hyundai (3000 nw s outer rd, blue springs, mo 64015) and informed them of the failure and schedule an appointment. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 224,000.

The torque converter & transmission fluid pump are known to be defective in this transmission, the f5a51 mitsubishi/hyundai transmission. Mine started going out recently, at 75k miles! This problem/defect is also very well known to hyundai/kia/mitsubishi and they choose to ignore the issue & instead try to blame the owners & claim that we've been neglectful or abusive to the transmission which is simply not the case. I'll say that again, hyundai & mitsubishi know of the manufacturing defects in these parts as well as defects with the crankshaft in the engine but choose to ignore it and claim that they are not responsible for these problems. There are known defects throughout the whole car, luckily mine is only having issues with those two parts in the transmission so far. Please help all of the other owners of the vehicles that have that transmission & engine with even greater problems than my own.

My hyundai xg 350 2002 had a little over 100,000 miles on it. On 2/12/2018, while driving on a route 17 south in mahwah, nj, i hear a high pitch cracking sound with a smoke coming out of the car and soon the car became disabled on the side of highway route 17 s leaking a engine oils all over the place. At the body shop, they found out that the the bottom part of the engine got cracked with a adult-fist size hole leaking engine oils all over the place. The owner of the body shop mentioned that it is his first time to see the engine got cracked with such a big hole. It appears that the engine has a major defect and could have caused a major problem unless the driver quickly moved the car to the road side before it became completely disabled. I feel so lucky that it didn't happen while my wife or my daughters were driving, and it happened to me, while i was driving. Only slightly over 100,000 miles and the engines got cracked, unbelievable.
