• Recall 179780 [USA]: An engine compartment fire can increase the risk of injury or crash.
  Hyundai motor america (hyundai) recalled certain 2019-2021 tucson vehicles on september 4, 2020. On december 30, 2020, hyundai expanded the recall population, and added certain 2016-2018 tucson vehicles. The anti-lock brake hydraulic electronic control unit (hecu) could corrode internally and cause an electrical short, possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire.
  hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the hecu fuse. For 2019-2021 model years, the electronic stability control (esc) software will also be updated. Recall repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. The recall began november 2, 2020. • Recall 122763 [USA]: If the trailer brake lights stay illuminated while being used, other drivers may be confused, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Hyundai motor america (hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 tucson vehicles manufactured may 19, 2015, to november 14, 2016, and 2017 santa fe vehicles manufactured november 28, 2015, to november 14, 2016. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an accessory trailer hitch wiring harness that, due to a malfunction of the tow hitch module, may result, in the trailer brake lights being constantly illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 108, " lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

• Recall 115228 [USA]: Failure to illuminate the trailer's turn signal lights would prevent the communication of the driver's intent, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Hyundai motor america (hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2016 hyundai tucson vehicles manufactured may 26, 2015 to january 15, 2016 and equipped with an accessory trailer hitch harness either included with the accessory trailer hitch or sold as a service part. In the affected vehicles, when the vehicle's engine is running and the brake lights are illuminated, if the turn signal is activated, the trailer turn signal lights will either turn off or remain continuously illuminated (not flash). • Recall R/2016/130 [UK]: Secondary bonnet catch may not function correctly
  If the bonnet is not shut correctly on the main bonnet catch and the bonnet then opens to the secondary catch the secondary bonnet catch is not strong enough to hold the bonnet in a closed position. At high motorway speeds the bonnet can then fly open and block the driver?S view. There is also a warning light to inform the driver that the bonnet is not closed correctly which is not functioning as intended.

  Issue: on certain vehicles, a problem in the control module for the antilock brake system (abs) could cause it to short circuit. Note: this is an expansion of recall 2020-431. This recall does not affect vehicles equipped with smart cruise control(scc). Safety risk: a short circuit could create a fire risk. Corrective actions: hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to revise the abs fuse wiring and update the abs control module, if necessary. • Recall 2016436 [Canada]: Powertrain
  On certain vehicles equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (dct), in higher ambient temperatures, the transmission clutch could have delayed engagement when accelerating from a stop. If the accelerator pedal is steadily depressed for approximately 1.5 to 2 seconds, the vehicle will begin to accelerate and normal driving is resumed. However, if the accelerator pedal is repeatedly cycled, the vehicle will not accelerate. A loss of motive power may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will reprogram the transmission control module.

• Recall 2016263 [Canada]: Structure
  On certain vehicles, the secondary hood latch can potentially disengage due to a tolerance build-up between the latch and catch mechanisms. If the vehicle were to be driven with the primary hood latch disengaged, there is a potential that the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed as designed while the vehicle is in motion. If this were to occur, it could compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield. These issues could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the secondary hood latch catch with a revised component. Note: there would be a visual warning in the instrument cluster to indicate that the primary latch would be disengaged, and for “limited” and “ultimate” trim models, there would be an additional audible warning.

  Certain vehicles outfitted with a tow hitch accessory may not comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard 108 - lighting system and retroreflective devices. Due to an incompatibility between the tow hitch harness control module and the vehicle’s power supply circuitry, when the vehicle’s engine is running and the brake lights are illuminated, if the turn signal is activated the trailer’s turn signal lamp may either: a) remain continuously illuminated (not flash), or b) turn off. As a result, drivers may not be able to clearly signal their intentions to turn, change lanes, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: dealers will update the tow hitch harness.

• Loss of motive power investigation # DP22003

  The national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) received a letter dated july 13, 2022, petitioning the agency to initiate a safety defect investigation into loss of motive power allegations attributed to oil drain pan assembly failures on certain hyundai motor america, inc. And kia america, inc. Vehicles spanning model years (my) 2005-2021. The petitioners cited examples of complaints indicating that the subject vehicles were experiencing rapid loss of engine oil due to oil drain plug back outs, resulting in loss of motive power and/or catastrophic engine damage. Additional complaints were provided which alleged that the oil drain pans lack sufficient structural integrity and are susceptible to cracking. The petition itself can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11481745. On september 12, 2022, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened defect petition (dp22-003) to evaluate the petitioners’ request. The petitioners have provided additional complaints within four supplemental letters dated january 31, 2023, march 21, 2023, may 23, 2023, and august 4, 2023. Odi’s evaluation included the review and analysis of the complaints and supporting information submitted by the petitioners, as well as additional complaints submitted directly to nhtsa which referenced either the oil drain plug or a crack in the oil pan. After reviewing the available data, odi has not identified evidence that would support opening a defect investigation into the oil drain pan assemblies of the subject vehicles. Based on a review of the available information, a loss of motive power resulting from an oil drain plug back out has not occurred between the initial sale of a vehicle and the completion of its first oil change. If during an oil change service, a technician fails to remove the existing drain plug gasket before installing a new gasket, it is likely that a proper seal between the drain plug and the oil pan will not be made. An improper seal between the drain plug and oil pan could lead to the backing out on the drain plug, resulting in the sudden loss of oil while driving. Additionally, the provided examples of oil pan cracks were localized to the immediate vicinity of the oil drain plug and/or appeared to be the result of direct-contact with a tool during servicing.  there is no information to support that a vehicle-based defect exists relating to the oil pan assembly, and instead the documented incidents are related to the failure to follow the proper maintenance procedures during oil change service. In october 2023, hyundai published a technical service bulletin (tsb) that provided detailed instructions for oil change service on its gasoline powered vehicles, specifically highlighting the need to remove and replace the existing drain plug gasket prior to reinstalling the drain plug. After a thorough review of the material submitted by the petitioner, the information already in nhtsas possession, and the potential risks to motor vehicle safety implicated by the petitioners allegations, nhtsa does not believe that a formal investigation is warranted. Therefore, the petition is denied. A federal register notice (frn) further detailing nhtsa’s reasons for denial of the petition will be published. When the vehicles at a complete stop and you go to press on the gas to accelerate the car moving forward, the car stutters. It happens at stop signs, stoplights, anywhere that the car is at a complete stop. This happens every single time. The car has been taken into the dealership and they say everything is fine and nothing is wrong. However i’ve taking it to a local mechanic and he said that he can definitely feel the stutter in the vehicle.

2016 hyundai tucson rear passenger door is stuck closed. When door has been unlocked, door cannot be opened either from the inside or the outside of the vehicle using the door handles. The passenger becomes trapped inside the car and should something happen, they cannot exit the car immediately if needed. Someone on the outside of the car is unable to open the door to assist any passenger trapped inside. A dealer or independent service has not yet reproduced or confirmed the problem and i will be contacting my dealer to have them address the issue. However, after researching this problem, i found numerous posts complaining that this fix is very costly and it is possible that all four doors will experience this same problem soon. At this time, no manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others have inspected the vehicle but based on the numerous complaints online, this issue should already be a recall on these vehicles. The only symptom was that the door did not open once it had been unlocked.

Rear passenger side door will not open from the inside or outside. Happened right after parking. Tried using the remote key and manually unlocking, flipped child safety lock on and off, nothing worked. The door won't budge. Passenger had to climb over our child's carseat to get out on the other side. Major safety hazard if the car were on fire or flipped over, especially for our child whose carseat is in the back. No warning or error message in the car. We've researched and found thousands of reports from other hyundai tucson 2016's with the same exact issue (often starting with one door and then spreading to all four others). I don't feel safe driving the car in case it spreads to the other doors. This needs to be a recall asap. Happy to have our car inspected if needed. Have not yet gone to a dealer but plan to soon.

Rear driver side door handle stuck and unable to open from outside or inside. Extremely unsafe due to not being able to exit the vehicle in case of fire or accident.

The driver side door will not open.. You can unlock with the fob or button on the door, or the mechanical key. The same issue will all methods. Inside or outside latch, but the handle will not open the door at all or there is a long delay. Very dangerous if you needed to exit the vehicle quickly.

The rear doors do not open from inside or outside. We have attempted to pull the battery for a potential reset, without success. Both doors became inoperable simultaneously. The electric locking mechanisms work. The electric windows go up and down. We noticed this on a multi state road trip with backseat passengers. In the event of an accident, the backseat passenger would not have egress from the vehicle.

Door actuators are failing causing doors to not open/be permanently locked. I have paid to repair one (which i don't have any confidence in), it's happening to another already, and countless others i've read are having the same issue. I hope that i don't run into the issue in a real emergency.

Rear passenger doors will not open even when unlocked, child safety feature is not on. This is a safety concern in an emergency situation. Doors will not open from the inside or outside.
