  Sabersport is recalling 16,270 combination corner and bumper lamp assemblies of various part numbers sold for use as aftermarket equipment for various passenger vehicles. These headlamps fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment." these lamps do not contain the required amber side reflectors.

  On certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles equipped with speed control, the speed control deactivation switch may overheat, smoke, or burn.
  by letter dated september 12, 2005, owners were instructed to return their vehicles to their dealers to have the speed control deactivation switch disconnected. Owners who have had their speed control deactivated are being notified that parts will be available and advised to make an appointment to reconnect the speed control beginning in february 2006. Owners who did not have their speed control deactivated are being notified to have their system remedied beginning in february 2006.   Vehicle description: sport utility vehicles equipped with four-wheel-drive (4x4), 17" chrome steel wheels. The clamp load can be lost on the wheel lugs due to insufficient wheel contact area with the hub. In some cases, the contact area can deform, resulting in a loss of lug nut torque.
  dealers will re-torque the wheel lugs to proper specifications and also install a label that specifies that the wheel lugs be torqued to 110 lb-ft any time the wheel is removed.

  On certain vehicles, ford has issued a scheduled maintenance guide update which specifies that every 20 000 kms, the steering linkage, which includes tie-rod ends, should be inspected. The vehicle owner is asked to place the tie-rod end inspection procedure supplied with this maintenance guide update in the vehicle's glove box for reference and safekeeping. The vehicle owner is to provide the inspection procedure to their repair facility to help properly identify worn tie-rod ends. Performing the vehicle scheduled maintenance, including maintenance inspections, is the responsibility of the vehicle owner. Failure to replace worn tie-rod ends may eventually result in a tie-rod end separation that could adversely affect steering control. If the inspection reveals that a tie-rod end is worn and must be replaced, the repair will be at the owner's expense unless the vehicle is still covered by the basic vehicle warranty, or has an extended service plan coverage that includes these components.

If the operator does not notice the condition due to rattle or other looseness of the trailer hitch assembly, there is a potential for the trailer hitch to separate from the vehicle. Correction: trailer hitch mounting bolts and nut plates will be replaced with higher strength mounting bolts and nut plates installed at a higher torque and including an adhesive patch.

  Certain vehicles equipped with 17 inch chrome steel wheels may lose clamp load on the wheel due to insufficient wheel contact area with the hub. In some cases the contact area may deform, resulting in a loss of lug nut torque. Loss of lug nut torque could cause vibration or separation of a wheel and tire from the vehicle, which could potentially result in loss of vehicle control and a crash without prior warning. Correction: dealers will retorque the wheel lug nuts to 110 lb-ft. And install a label on the road wheels that specifies that the wheel lug nuts be torqued to 110 lb-ft any time the wheel is removed.

• Factory installed towing hitch separatio investigation # PE99060

  This investigation was opened on september 27, 1999 based on five consumer reports alleging that some of the eight hitch mounting bolts either became loose or came completely out of its retaining plate.One of the complaints indicated that while towig a trailer the hitch actually separated from the frame on the passengers side of the vehicle when the four mounting bolts on that side came completely out. This allowed the hitch and trailer to contact the road surface.In its response to the agency, ford provided information regarding nine additional reports of loose or missing bolts, two of those alleging separation of the hitch on one side.There were no reports of vehicle crshes, injuries, or a complete separation of a hitch assembly.Scope:1997 throurgh 2000 model year expeditions and 1998 through 2000 model year navigators built at michigan truch assemblly plant from july 22,1 996 through december 9, 1999.Defect: loss of clamping load of hitch attachment bolts.Remedy:the hitch mounting bolts and nut plates will be replace with higher strength bolts and plates.Additionally , the torque value for the mounting bolts will be increased and an adhesive will be added to the bolts.

Lugnuts/fuel leaking/lighting/seatbelts

Faulty transmission gear. This may be an older model, but with 156,000 miles, the gearshift either prevents the truck from starting, or will start rolling on its after putting truck in park and removng key. I almost lost my truck from that after i got out of the vehicle and it started rolling away. Despite its age, this problem just started.

In the last five years my 255/ 75 17 contitrac tires 5 of them have blown out or come apart in some manner! The last time a few days ago was pretty close to a high speed accident 65mph there is an absolute major problem with these tires !! This is the second set that has been on this truck~! Continental no longer makes this size and they are non responsive to my complaints please help.

During regular, casual vehicle operation, one of the spark plugs flew out of its seat. Causing the vehicle to smoke from the engine compartment and lose compression. I thought the engine had caught fire and there was no warning to this happening. Spark plugs were installed per manufacturers specifications when this incident occurred. *tr

While driving ....... Without warning the air suspension line exploded and the vehicle became unmanageable ... Causing me to go off the road and strike various stationary objects ...... *tr

We had driven the vehicle about one mile from the beach to a restaurant, where we parked as usual and entered to dine. We had been in the restaurant approximately 15 - 20 minutes when the waiter announced that there was a "car on fire" in the parking lot. My family and i, along with everyone else in the restaurant, rushed outside, where i was horrified to see my lincoln navigator surrounded by police cars and engulfed in flames. I have photos on my phone if necessary. The fire had very obviously started in the engine compartment and probably on the driver's side, as the front tire on that side had melted and was flat, but the other tires were all intact. I have since been made aware of a faulty switch related to the cruise control that can cause these problems. I am almost certain that we took our vehicle in and had that recall dealt with years ago. I will search for paperwork. I remember some repair being done at the dealer, but i cannot remember if it was a recall or just something they contacted us to recommend being repaired. Either way, my parked vehicle was destroyed by fire while i dined. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 lincoln navigator. The contact stated that the roof leaked water onto the driver side window post and then traveled to the dashboard area. The water caused electrical issues. In addition, the front driver side exterior power door lock could only be accessed manually. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. The vin was unavailable.
