This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety risk: if the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective actions: owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the passenger-front airbag inflator.   On certain vehicles, the front lower control arms could corrode due to exposure to humid environments and road de-icing chemicals. Over time, corrosion could progress causing thinning and perforation of the steel, which could allow the control arm to fracture near the forward pivot attachment to the chassis. Lower control arm failure could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect the front lower control arms and, depending on the degree of corrosion exhibited, will either rustproof or replace them.

  On certain vehicles, the wiring harness for the airbag occupant detection system in the front passenger seating position might have been pinched during vehicle assembly.   On september 6, 2011, fuji heavy industries usa, inc, on behalf of subaru of america, inc notified the office of defects investigation (odi) it would be conducting a safety recall of certain model year (my) 2002 through 2007 subaru impreza, my 2003 through 2008 subaru forester, and my 2005 through 2006 saab 9-2x vehicles originally sold or currently registered in one the "salt belt" states including the district of columbia (dc). For the purpose of this investigation, "salt belt" states include connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin and dc.Odis analysis of consumer complaint data identified 11 reports alleging failure of either the right or left lower control arm due to excessive corrosion. All of these complaints were associated with vehicles currently registered or originally sold in a "salt belt" state. Through a similar analysis of complaint and warranty data submitted to odi by subaru, odi identified 18 consumer complaints and 6 warranty claims associated with failure of the left or right front lower control arm due to excessive corrosion. All of these consumer complaints associated with vehicles either currently registered of originally sold in a "salt belt" state.Accordingly, this investigation is closed.

While my 75 year-old mother was driving home from the job she still works to pay her bills, the brakes on her subaru failed. The car was in motion, pulling out of the parking lot of the building where she works. Fortunately, she was able to get to a safe place and stop the vehicle, and thankfully she was not injured. Upon inspection, we discovered the failure was due to corroded brake lines. The lines leaked in the right rear area, near the wheel. Investigating online, i discovered a huge recall of subarus around the same year, make and model as my mom's. But according to subaru of america and nhtsa, unfortunately, my mon's car is for some reason not covered by this recall. That seems like an oversight, because the lines are definitely corroded, and my mom lives in the same 'salt belt' area (western massachusetts) where the 600k+ other, covered, subarus are. I know recall investigations take time, so this complaint probably won't help us ' mom will have to pay out of pocket to repair the lines, which will likely cost all of her limited monthly income from social security and jobs ' but if making this complaint helps others, it's well worth the effort. Possibly related to takata recall after local dealer serviced the recall, the air bag light came on. Dealer has said it is fault code 26, which is related to a failure of the passenger airbag indicator. This problem is pervasive and wide spread, a simple google search will garnish tens and possibly hundreds of people citing this failure. On top of subaru not being forthcoming with this information, the dealer has only made problem worse in their attempt to fix what should be a simple wiring issue that many people are able to fix on their own. It is unclear if the passenger airbag will deploy while this code is present. We believe it to be related to recall as the passenger wiring harness is involved in the repair and could have been incorrectly installed or the problem was their and the dealer did not tell us about it.

Takata recall i purchased this car six months ago from a small dealeership in vacaville, ca. I paid half the price for the car in cash the day i bought it after they assured me that it cleared the state inspection. Not even 4000 miles after i purchased this vehicle the motor is blown and there is the takata recall from 2016 that has not been handled. I just purchased the car in 09/2017.

Takata recall, i received a notification in the mail that there is a recall for my subaru impreza's air bags, i have called the dealer to make an appointment for a repair which the notification said would take 45minutes. The dealer scheduled an appointment, i waited a week without being able to use my vehicle. Then the dealer called me and told me that they have been unable to get the part. They also told me that when they do finally get the part the repair will take 3 days. They still have not called me to schedule a new repair time. I am stuck without a vehicle still and i use the vehicle for work. I have no idea how long i will be without a vehicle because they will not tell me how long it will take to get the replacement part. They are not repairing my car in a timely manner. I would like to be compensated. They can give me a new car or a working used car without defect. Thank you

Takata recall. I have received multiple recall notices, yet the local dealership has given me multiple dates by which they would have the parts, however, i keep calling them back and i feel that they are taking far too long to do this work. I called today, 10-13-2017 and spoke with tina marie at the dealership in the cumberland, md area and they said they have a call list but "another girl has the list" so tina marie could not verify even if i was on the call list or not. They had told me before it would be in august 2017 i could have the work done, then, they told me september. I am very concerned about this issue of having to wait over a year and a half to get this work done.

Takata recall -- this is regarding the recall of the 2006 subaru impreza passenger airbag. I received a letter this year (in march 2017) letting me know that the airbag was subject to recall because of serious mal-function... Serious enough that they suggest i not have anyone sit in the passenger seat. Since then i have heard nothing from subaru... Not even a note saying when they anticipate that fix would be ready. I find this not only a serious lack responsiblity on their part. I really think they should be require to provide a fix for this serious issue and that they should notify all concerned persons within 30 day maximum and that a fix must be available by the end of this year....I would appreciate a response from you concerning this issue.

Takata recall -- i have a 2006 subaru. I received a letter from them in march 2017 telling me there was a serious issue regarding the takata passenger side airbags, at that time they informed me that they did not have a fix. It is now october 2017 and i have not received any information from subaru regarding a fix. What do i do? It concerns the safety of my passengers and quite possibly me as a driver. "takata recall" we have been contacting our trusted subaru dealer (carlsen subaru, 480 veterans blvd redwood city,ca 94063) frequently since july when we have received the attached recall notice. During our recent visit about this recall to the dealership we were told that parts are still not available, and that since california has a dry climate it is not likely that we have rusted components. That is an incorrect and dangerous assumption! We live in half moon bay, on the coast, quarter mile from the ocean - where breeze, moisture and salt result in accelerated rusting (both indoors and outdoors). Takata recall. This car is unsafe to drive due to the airbag issue. Yet, subaru is not replacing the airbag in a timely fashion. Thus, my child is forced to drive this unsafe car because we can't afford a new car. The airbags need to replaced immediately.

In cold temperatures when starting the car there is a smell of raw fuel that fills the cabin to the point where i have to get out of the vehicle and air it out before it would be safe to drive. Subaru has tsb's on this issue for many vehicle models and years but does not seem to think it is worthy of a recall. This issue first started for me about 3 years ago and has been a constant problem since.

Takata recall: i first purchased this vehicle and it had an airbag light on, but without any history of an accident. The weight sensor on the dashboard which notifies you of someone sitting in the passenger seat changes from on to off just fine. However, the airbag light has remained on for the length of my ownership. I want to know if this is a defective takata airbag and my specific make and model was not included in the recall list of vehicles, but in truth that is the main issue. I has had the vehicle inspected an there does not seem to be any other contributing factor including a fuse shortage or faulty dome light.

Upon start in any weather after sitting or multple start and stop trips with engine at operating tempeture a very strong raw fuel smell over takes cabin so badly windows have to be rolled down to avoid sickness. Smell continues after several minutes of driving with windows down.

The rear wheel bearings emit a low pitch noise that increases in amplitude with speed. The noise has been getting progressively worse, to the point where at highway speeds, it is difficult to hold a conversation with anyone sitting in the back seat. I am told there is a wheel bearing recall for a different model subaru of this same model year, but the subaru dealership says it does not include my vin. They estimate the repair at $850.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 subaru impreza. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the engine and brake warning lights. The vehicle was able to be restarted; however, the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the ignition coil needed to be replaced. The ignition coil was replaced twice because the failure recurred after the first replacement. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. I was driving along in my subaru impreza wrx sti at approx. 45 mph when my car had the oil light, check engine light, and cruise control light (flashing) come on. When i towed the car to the dealer to be inspected they found the oil pickup tube was broken in two pieces near the oil pump starving the engine/turbo of oil, causing catastrophic engine failure. The vehicle will need an entire new engine (long block) and likely a new turbo. After doing some research i have found this to be a very frequent issue and hopefully will be addressed asap. From my understanding, subaru is still having these failures in the newer model cars also. *js

The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection of the transmission bearing failure. The contact stated that the vehicle gear clutch had to be replaced due to slow acceleration. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 73,000.

Upon start up of my 2006 subaru wrx sti, there is visual evidence of fuel leakage under the intake manifold on the passenger side of engine. This only happens during times of cold weather. You cannot see the leak as it is underneath components however, you can smell raw fuel and see where it puddles up after a few moments of engine operation. This puddle accumulates on top of the engine block, directly in front of the turbocharger and exhaust system. This is cause of major concern for the safety of myself, my family, passengers in my vehicle and other motorist on the road. Soa, subaru of america, has issued recalls for previous model years but should investigate to possibility of extending the recall to include more current model years. I have contacted soa with my problem to no avail. *tr

Consumer states while pulling away he heard a continuous grinding/ shearing noise which became more severe upon braking *tgw the consumer stated the vehicle swerved when the brakes were applied. The consumer stated it was later determined the brake shoe assemblies had disintegrated while driving. The backing plates for the pads were heavily rusted and broke off with little pressure. *jb

2006 subaru sti driving home 20 mph oil light flickered then stayed on for 20 seconds engine starved of oil, shut down. Had engine removed to find oil pick up tube the weld had failed causing no oil to motor, now motor is junk. Now i find out this is a common problem. Subaru of america has made a up dated tube,my question is why? A problem. I have had my car for 3 months now its 6,000 dollar repair, for a poor weld job on a 20 dollar part. The sales on these tubes are not going to reflect on how many have failed because who can afford 6,000 dollars every time it fails. So after market pick up tubes are be purchased that are made to last. I have all old parts and photos of all old parts. There has been no accident, but there have been many, many incidents when there is even the tiniest bit of snow/ice on the road. If i need to brake for a traffic light or to turn or for any other reason, the brake pedal does not go down. Therefore, the car does not stop. I have skidded into intersections far too often. I fear for any vehiicle, animal, or pedestrian that might be in front of my 2006 subaru impreza. Several mechanics and dealers are telling me this is the way abs systems are supposed to work. We've replaced the tires so that i am driving what should be a good, safe vehicle. How can this be considered a safety feature? I am not a speedster. I am a 60 year-old woman who lives in upstate new york who does not feel safe and secure driving my awd car in the snow. *tr

I had to replace the right rear wheel bearing in september of 2009 with 63,455 miles, then in february, 2012 at 99,985 miles i had to replace the left rear wheel bearing, and again on july 7, 2014, i have had to replace the right rear wheel bearing again at 118,903 miles. This seems to be a rather excessive failure of subaru's design, since i have never experienced nor to i know anyone who has experienced any type of re-occurring failures with wheel bearings on other vehicles. My husband is a retired mechanic, who after working on all types of vehicles for over 40 years, has never encountered such problems. Surely subaru should be held accountable to it's customers to correct their problems with a re-call to modify their poor design, without making their customers continually pay for their mistakes, before someone looses a wheel, causing a major accident resulting in loss of life and property. This should not be a normal occurrence for all-wheel drive vehicles. *tr

Roll over valves crack. Valves inside the gas tank that prevent gas from leaking out in the event of a roll over accident are defective. *tr

Oil pick up failed cracked near weld in result of my engine had to be replaced because of broken internal parts due to no oil distribution to the motor. *tr

Oil pump pickup tube fractured, causing no oil pressure in engine, and possibly could have caused catastrophic failure, loss of control of vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 subaru impreza. While driving at any speed, coasting, and shifting gears, the vehicle loses all wheel drive power. The failure causes the vehicle to shift into neutral. The failure was more apparent at high altitudes and on icy roads. While driving downhill, the vehicle jerks before it shifts into neutral. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. However, they reprogrammed the ecm. A local mechanic stated that the vehicle's torque converter and transmission were working improperly and the engine was six degrees too high. The contact filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer. The current mileage was 22,000 and failure mileage was 1,000. Updated 01-30-08. *kb the consumer stated driver's seat would lock into place, windows screeched, and passenger's front door hinges came loose. While driving my 2006 subaru wrx sti the engine suddenly seized up on the highway. There was a loss of power to everything including the power steering and brakes. I had to perform emergency maneuvers and steer into the emergency lane on the highway. I had the car taken to subaru, they refused to honor the power train warranty on it and wanted $1500 to even look at it. I think took the car into a private mechanical shop and they found the cause of the problem, the oil pick up line cracked in half. The motor started to suck in air instead of oil which caused critical failure and subsequent seizure. Apparently this is now a common problem with 2006 subaru's which is caused by a manufacturing defect on the oil pick up line. I would like subaru to acknowledge the problem and compensate me for the cost of rebuilding my engine. *tr

I hit a bear at 55mph with the cruise control on. The bear leaped off the bank in directly in front of the vehicle. The crash that resulted in the bear being killed instantly, about 600 lbs. Of bear. The car came to an instant halt with the front end being pushed back, lights,grille,fender, hood, ect. No air bags deployed. After calling subaru of america, i was advised to let my insurance handle it, but after much argument was assigned a case number of 1020805 by subaru. This is not a insurance problem, this is subaru problem. The vehicle was towed back to first team in roanoke virginia and the collision shop advised me to contact subaru. *tr

2006 subaru impreza wrx sti, equipped with factory brembo brakes. Driving in rain on highway w/o using the brakes (no braking) for about 15-20 minutes will result in a delay of 3-4 seconds before actual brake effects start to feel. Running with no brakes literary is a scary feeling. Contacted dealer but they haven't raised any concerns. What should i do?*jb

90 mph head on crash, and neither the driver nor the passenger airbags deployed, resulting in severe hyperextension of the neck and back of the passenger, causing 4 herniated disks, as well as a severe concussion resulting in post concussive disorder with permanent short term memory loss. When subaru was contacted listing the 2006 impreza and the above information, we were told that the federal crash test ratings are only for head on collisions with a brick wall, and if we had hit a brick wall then they would be liable-since we hit a guardrail twice and were jettisoned across the street into a shed whose center steel support beam finally stopped the vehicle, they were not. I was forced off the road by a car that pulled out in front of me from my right and stopped in my lane. I swerved to the left to avoid the car and corrected to the right, at this time there was no more road to drive on. My car went off the shoulder and into the ditch, striking a concrete drainage colvert ,head on. The left front bumper, from the headlights down and left front tire were completely demolished. The airbags did not deploy! The impact was in excess of thirty-five miles per hour. Witnesses to the crash said the back of the car came off the ground a few feet due to the speed and severity of the stop. I firmly believe that the car's airbags should have deployed. According to the owner's manual for my car so does the manufacturer. The resulting injuries were quite sever. *jb

I bought a 2006 subaru wrx only two months ago. On a trip last month (car was only a month old at the time) i had some small debris hit my windshield, nothing really out of the ordinary, especially here in colorado. But, the next morning when i went out to the car, i had a crack that ran across more than half of my windshield. Considering i have had three other cars while living in colorado, i have had only one cracked windshield and that was due to a truck kicking up a rock into the windshield. Also, i am finding many complaints and similar cracks in other wrx's and wrx owners. I feel as if the windshields on a wrx are either weak or need to be thicker. *jb

2006 my subaru impreza sti with 414 miles and 1.5 weeks old the engine motors mounts failed, this caused a loud clunking as the engine would move violently when braking and accelerating. Were told that the motor mount would be replaced with the 2005 my motor mounts when available and we should take the car home and drive careful. *nm
