INFORMATION
This bulletin provides information with regards to the Isuzu Commercial Vehicle (CV)
Service Policies and Procedures Manual (SPPM).
What is “Vehicle Storage”?: Isuzu considers a vehicle to be in “storage” up to the point
it is delivered to the end customer for use OR until it is “retail delivered” in the Isuzu
Communication System (ICS). This storage period starts the day the vehicle is
wholesaled to the dealer. During this period the “Isuzu Dealer” to which the vehicle was
wholesaled to is solely responsible for the care and maintenance of the vehicle until it is
“retail delivered” in ICS regardless of the vehicle’s location (i.e., dealer front lot, dealer
remote storage lot, modification center, dealer designated body builder or other dealer
designated drop shipment location).
The Isuzu CV SPPM (sections 2.15 and 2.16) provides detailed procedures related to
vehicle storage up to and beyond 30 days. Performing these required procedures at the
specified intervals will properly maintain vehicles until they are retailed. Failure to follow
the procedures outlined may result in repairs and additional costs that could have been
avoided. We are providing dealers with this brief overview of the recommended
procedures as a reminder to maintain older inventory. Failures resulting from improper,
or lack of, storage procedures are not covered under the vehicle factory warranty.
STORAGE OVERVIEW
Less Than 30 Days
•
Regularly inspect the paint for airborne pollutants (fallout) and apply a thick coat
of wax to prevent discoloration.
•
Protect the upholstery to prevent fading and damage.
•
Apply silicon protectant to keep any rubber parts, particularly weather-stripping,
pliable and protected.
•
Lubricate any mechanical linkage.
•
Start the engine every two weeks and run until completely warmed up. Avoid
storage under trees or in grass or weeds where bird droppings, insect nests or
rodents may cause damage.
More Than 30 Days - Add the Following:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Check and inflate tires to manufacturer’s maximum specifications.
Shift the transmission through all the gears while the engine is running.
Move the vehicle at least 30 feet and re-park to avoid forming flat spots on the
tires.
Check the fuel caps.
Air out the cab.
Remove the wiper arms. Store them in a safe place (inside the cab) out of direct
sunlight.
Disconnect the negative battery cable; ensure battery voltage is 12.5 V or higher.
Note: When the negative battery cable is reconnected, the MID date and time
should be properly set.
•
Check the battery voltage every 30 days and ensure battery voltage is 12.5 V or
higher. Charge as necessary to maintain the correct voltage.
Note: If battery voltage falls below 12.5 V, problems may occur in the field before
the battery has a chance to become fully charged once the vehicle is being driven
regularly.
More Than 6 Months - Add the Following:
•
Drain and refill Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).
More Than 1 Year - Add the Following:
•
Replace engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, transmission oil, differential gear oil and
all other fluids.
•
Any Vehicle maintenance that is required after 12 months according to the owner
manual maintenance schedule.
Note: For exact procedures, refer to sections 2.15 and 2.16 of the Service Policies
and Procedures Manual (SPPM).
