  Chrysler (fca us, llc) is recalling certain 2017-2020 alfa romeo giulia and 2018-2020 alfa romeo stelvio vehicles equipped with carbon ceramic matrix brakes. During certain driving maneuvers, the brake system may exert an excessive clamp force that may fracture the rotor, decreasing the brake performance.

  Issue: on certain cars, the tire placard label has some errors in recommended tire pressure. Specifically, the pounds per square inch (“psi”) pressures have small errors: 1. Cars with rear 225/45r18 tires incorrectly list 35 psi instead of 36 psi. 2. Cars with rear 225/40r19 tires incorrectly list 37 psi instead of 39 psi. 3. Cars with rear 225/35r19 tires incorrectly list 33 psi instead of 35 psi. All of the metric pressures are correct. Safety risk: these small variations in recommended tire pressure are unlikely to affect safety. Corrective actions: this is not a recall. The company has made production changes to ensure that the tire placard label on all new cars has the correct tire inflation pressures.

  Issue: under specific driving conditions, the driver may not be able to cancel the adaptive cruise control (acc) setting. Safety risk: if the driver does not shift to neutral or apply the brakes to stop the vehicle, this can cause a crash without warning. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the brake system software. Drivers should not use the adaptive cruise control feature until this update is completed.

• Low pressure fuel pump assembly failure investigation # PE24003

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has received 12 complaints and multiple field reports alleging incidents of stall/loss of motive power as a result of low-pressure fuel pump failures in certain 2017-2018 model year (my) alfa romeo giulia equipped with 4 cylinder 2.0l and 6 cylinder 2.9l turbocharged engines. Based on an analysis of the complaints and field reports, odi has found that most of the reported loss of motive power incident allegations occurred at speeds above 25 mph and resulted in permanent disablement of the vehicle.  one (1) complaint reported a minor crash incident attributed to the loss of motive power due to fuel pump failure. Other complaints reported the fuel pump failed, was repaired and the fuel pump failed a second time. During discussions with the manufacturer, odi learned that in january 2018, they released a technical service bulletin (tsb) #18-001-18 announcing to its service dealers a remedy for vehicles who experiences a diagnostic trouble code (dtc) P008A-low pressure fuel system pressure- too low. The remedy includes inspection of the fuel pump module and replacement, if necessary. A preliminary evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency, root cause(s) and consequences of these loss/stall of motive power incidents.  additionally, odi may expand the scope of the subject population during the investigation, if needed. The light control for the 2018 alfa romeo gulia has always been set at 'auto'. Over the past few months, while the car was in park in our driveway with no key fob near it and no one touching the vehicle the headlights would blink on and off. This was observed about 4 times over the past 2 months. Recently, while driving the interior and exterior lights suddenly would dim, but quickly restore. On one occasion about 1 week ago, the interior lights remained dim but i was able to restore to the prior setting by adjusting the control on the dashboard. Last night, while driving on local streets having just exited from a highway, the interior and exterior lights turned completely off for about 2 seconds, went back on then turned completely off two more times and went back on. Upon arriving at home, the car was turned off. The auto setting for the lights was noted and the owners manual was reviewed to confirm the position of the auto setting was correct. I turned the control switch a few times while parked in my driveway and the lights turned on and off per the setting on the control. I returned the setting to auto. A call to the dealer service department to inquire if there had been any other complaints indicated there had been no other reports to them of the lights improperly functioning while parked or while driving.

According to the dealership, this is common and rear brakes on this car typically need replacement at 20,000 miles. Alfa's customer service confirmed this. The dealer also stated that this is related to the electric parking brake. In my opinion, this is a safety issue as a typical driver does not expect brake replacement after such a short period of time. If this is related to the electric parking brake, as advised by the dealer, the rear brake pads may be dragging and heating the rotors while the car is in motion, therefore reducing the stopping power when needed. I believe this is either a poor design, poor materials and workmanship or a defect in the parking brake and should be addressed. Checking this online, i find this is a common issue and i feel it should be investigated before it leads to an accident.

Under certain condition's the vehicle will stop running without warning. More specifically, when the outside temperature is hot, combined with a fuel level which is at or below 1/4 but not empty, the car will quit running. It has resulted in my being stranded along the roadside 4 times, and one time in particular i was stuck in the middle of a single lane road which presented a significant risk. The will not restart despite adequate gas being present in the gas tank. The car will eventually restart after it has been allowed to cool down. I believe that a combination of low fuel, hot ambient temperature, and the heat generated from the exhaust system which is directly below the gas tank prevents adequate fuel pick-up until the fuel and car has cooled.
