  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 escape, 2013-2018 c-max, 2013-2016 fusion, 2013-2021 transit connect, and 2015-2018 edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
  dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed july 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th quarter 2022.   Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 fiesta, 2013-2014 fusion, 2015 mustang, 2013-2015 escape and c-max, 2012-2015 focus, 2014-2016 transit connect, 2013-2014 lincoln mkz, and 2015 mkc vehicles. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain 120v convenience charge cords that were supplied with and sold for use with 2013-2015 ford c-max energi and fusion energi vehicles and 2012-2015 ford focus electric vehicles. Cords with part numbers fm58-10b706-aa, fm58-10b706-ab, fm58-10b706-ac, fm58-10b706-ad, fm58-10b706-ae and fm58-10b706-af were manufactured without thermistors, and during vehicle charging, increased resistance in the house's outlet or wiring can cause the cord to overheat and melt.

  Affected vehicles fitted with a 1.0 1.5 or 1.6 ecoboost engine and 6-speed manual transmission could suffer clutch pressure plate fracture. This results in clutch smell reduced vehicle speed and performance. In the unlikely event of clutch pressure plate fracture a noise (thud / bang) could be heard from the vicinity of the transmission in extreme cases resulting in clutch / transmission fragments being released and striking under hood components creating a risk of smoke and fire from the under hood area.
  to prevent the repeated heating /cooling events a new calibration has been developed for vehicles fitted with engine stop start feature. The software with the additional feature sets the instrument panel ?Wrench light? And de-rates the engine performance if prolonged clutch slip is detected. The software feature includes a drive cycle strategy for latching the wrench light and engine performance de-rate if the customer should experience repeated clutch slip events. For vehicles that do not have engine stop start feature an alternative clutch kit has been released.

  On certain vehicles, the pawl spring tab in the side door latch could break. This condition typically will prevent the door from latching. In certain situations where the door is able to be closed, the door may be partially latched and could unlatch while driving. This could increase the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant seated next to the door, or result in damage to property. Correction: if a door will not latch, dealers will replace all four door latches with a more robust part. Note: a door that is partially latched can cause the courtesy light to remain on, set a door ajar message in the instrument cluster and sound a door ajar chime to alert the driver that there is a door latch problem.

  Issue: on certain vehicles, the shift cable may detach from the transmission. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. As a result, the transmission could be in a different gear than the gear shifter indicates. If a driver attempts to exit the vehicle while the transmission is not in park, and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle could move suddenly. Safety risk: sudden and unexpected movement of the vehicle could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the transmission shifter cable bushing and install a protective service cap. Ford advises that you should apply the parking brake each time the vehicle is parked.

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072. Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.On january 27, 2023, nhtsa opened defect petition (dp) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On june 24, 2023 and as supplemented on june 25, 2023, the petitioner notified nhtsa he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioners withdrawal, dp22-005 is closed. Closure of this dp does not represent a determination by nhtsa regarding the subject matter of the petition.

During last trip with car, parked car while shopping. When leaving store car lost steering and warning light came on in dash indicating power steering assist fault. Car was extremely difficult to drive after that. Waiting for appointment with dealer. Had this happened while turning at a busy intersection it could have been a problem. Car has 100,000 miles so i expect some problems, but i think this could be a safety issue.

There is a grinding or rubbing sound emanating from the transmission while driving, at any speed (generally not while stationary but sometimes), and the check engine light turns on. The local ford dealership (metro motors, st. Croix, u.S. Virgin islands) found "transmission variator to drive chain loose causing noise" and "[n]o internal serviceable components" and recommended "[r]eplacement of hybrid cvt transmission." the dealership specifically recommends replacement of the transmission part, jm5z-7000-arm, which is the same part indicated in the technical service bulletin 20-2219, published on june 29, 2020, on this same issue of grinding/rubbing noise emanating from transmissions in 2014 ford c-max (among other vehicles). The tsb further provides the part is "eligible under provisions of new vehicle limited warranty," however, the local dealership has stated ford motor company denied the claim, and the ford motor company has said it agrees with the dealership that the claim should be denied. However, the vehicle (mileage: 86,225 miles; years: not yet 7) is under an active new vehicle limited warranty as the terms have not expired. The local dealership is willing to replace the defective part, however, it says it needs written confirmation from ford motor company, which ford motor company has not provided, despite two letters of notice of defective part and multiple phone calls with the customer relationship center.

While stopped for gas idiot light for power steering failure came on. Couldn't steer car. Took to ford dealer and they said power assist was broken and need to be replaced, and this would cost $2800. This has been recalled previously on ford taurus and fusion, but was not extended to c-max. It should have been.
