Issue: on certain vehicles, the parking pawl could disengage for a short time just after the vehicle is parked and turned off. As a result, the vehicle could move suddenly if the parking brake isn't used. Safety risk: a parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective actions: hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the shifter control unit software. To reduce the safety risk, hyundai recommends that you should use the parking brake each time that you park.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Loss of motive power investigation as of 20230608

The office of defects investigation (odi) has received 30 consumer complaints alleging a loss of motive power in 2022 model year hyundai ioniq5 vehicles. Many consumers report a loud pop noise followed by a warning displayed in their dashboard and immediately experience a loss of motive power that ranges from a reduction to a complete loss of motive power. Odi conducted several owner interviews confirming a range of loss of power and varying time intervals between the warning message and loss of power.Odi learned from hyundai that the failure is related to the iccu (integrated control charing unit) that is responsible for powering both the hv (hybrid vehicle) battery and the lv (low voltage) 12v battery. Preliminary review indicates over-current within the iccu (integrated control charing unit) can damage transistors (fet) in the ldc (dc-to-dc converter) resulting in the inability to recharge the 12v battery. Odi is opening this preliminary evaluation (pe) to determine the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues. The odi reports cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.Nhtsa.Dot.Gov/owners searchnhtsaid using the following complaint identification numbers: 11502808, 11503875, 11503875, 11503875, 11507303, 11508521, 11508521, 11509776, 11509784, 11509814, 11509814, 11509852, 11510146, 11511391, 11511391, 11511572, 11511572, 11512088, 11514095, 11514095, 11515582, 11515756, 11515756, 11516145, 11516145, 11516472, 11518336, 11518368, 11518368, 11520155, 11520155, 11520155, 11520367, 11520367, 11520367, 11520754, 11520815, 11521187, 11521187, 11521543, 11521543, 11522548, 11522548, 11522548, 11523025, 11523131, 11523131, 11523423, 11523423, 11523423, 11523775 and 11523775.

  • Pedestrian alert sounds investigation as of 20230127

Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The petitioner requests that nhtsa require all electric and hybrid vehicles comply with fmvss 141, regardless of production date. The defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition. The associated product list is not exhaustive and may contain vehicles that are equipped with pedestrian alert sounds.
